We rent a small house in a nice neighborhood,great schools .the only drawback besides the size of the house is the vacant lot next to us with dead trees.
The first time we knew something was wrong was when we heard and felt the house shake ,a limb from a dead tree fell on the power line and jolted the whole house,we had to have the power company come to check if the line was fine .
We talked to the landlord who said he would talk to the hoa.
The second time,a big branch fell on the power line,amd the transformer blew,not only that,but the whole house shook,lightbulbs were exploding all thru the house.we lost quite a few electronics and small appliances.the internet line was burnt ,literrally burnt,the att guy never saw that before.
About a month ago,my dd who is 18 called me at work ,because there was a fire,guess what? Another tree fell,this time the power line fell ,blew the transformer again,and it caught the yard on fire,a neighbor who is a cop saw dd s car and went inside to get her out while another neighbor tried to put out the fire,the firemen did in the end.
Yesterday ,on easter ,an another tree fell right were we used to hide eggs,a tree is embedded in the ground right now.
The kicker,is that the hoa is sending our landlord letters telling him that we need to clean the front yard( the only mess are the dead trees ,it takes us about a week to take care of it).
We call our landlord each time something happened.but nothing is done.
I am just fed up !just scared the kids could get hurt .we don't use our front yard anymore....

call the city! we had the same problem with a neighbor and one huge tree the limbs kept breaking the fence but he wouldnt do anything because if it falls on your property is your problem...WRONG if the tree(s) are a danger the city will make the owner take it down or (where we live at least) the city will take it down and charge the owner! Call the city asap!

Call the city. I have seen signs that have been posted recently in yards by the city government that say " public nuisance notice" The person responsible for the property has a certain amount of time to fix it or pay a fine.

Call Code Enforcement at the City or County (call the County if you are not in an incorporated city). You might be able to file a complaint on line (I know our City has a form on line and they DO go check the stuff).

If the trees are dead it's the property owner's responsibility. If the lot is owned by the HOA they have to take care of it.
