Good to know I'm not the only menace behind a cart. I think they love it when I go into CVS because I'm cussing about how my binder doesn't fit their seat on the cart.I get the dancing carts sometimes, you have one coming in as your trying to get out. It's like a Target Salsa move up one goes back. Followed by "You go", "No you go" ![]() The best is cart dueling from the ends of the aisle. The woman who's revving her handbar, rolling her trusty buggy back and forth and giving you the stink eye. Don't get between a woman and her clearance section. I will say a lot of guys are courteous carters. |

My issue with carts is people not taking them back inside the store or things you're supposed to put them in in the parking lot. They take up parking spots, they scratch peoples cars, stores charge more because they have to pay people to fetch them, and sometimes stores even run out of carts inside because they're all outside. It just drives me nuts. Aldi does it right. You have to deposit a quarter to take a cart and you get it back after taking your cart back to the thing right outside the store. Most people will spend an extra 1 minute to get their quarter back! One of the other things that just eats me alive is when people leave the motorized carts outside. Don't they realize they can easily get damaged by cars or weather? If they can get in the store to get one, they can bring it back inside. I'm sure if they asked an associate would even bring it in for them. When stores have to replace the carts, that raises prices. I guess they don't realize it or just don't care.

I make a serious effort to push my cart down the right side of the aisle and only park it for a moment while I'm getting my items. I keep an eye on it and move it promptly if it seems that someone wants to get to something that it may be blocking. If I need to consult my list or search my through my coupons, I move my cart out to a main aisle & park in a low traffic area. But, even with all my attempts at caution, here in "retiree land", I live in mortal fear of the elderly & motorized cart drivers! In my town, there seem to be 2 types of drivers - 1) slow & jerky down the middle of the aisle (stop, start, stop, start for no apparent reason) with no way around them or 2) full speed ahead, no matter who or what is in the way. God forbid if you stop in front of either type to get something off of a shelf! If they don't simply run into you, they feel that they have the right to say the most horrible things to you about being in their way. If you politely ask one of them to let you by, chances are very good that they will curse at you. I know that there are a lot of elderly people out there who don't behave this way. I also know that motor coordination slows as we age & one day (hopefully) I will be elderly & need people to have a little more patience with me. But really, I hope that I will also have more patience with other people and not assume that just because I'm old, it's okay for me to ignore courtesy & respect for other people.

Ugh. Today a lady in the grocery store had her cart parked at the end of the aisle sideways, totally blocking the aisle as she was 10 feet away.

I think I usually have good cart etiquette and control, I try to park by the cart return so it will be easier/faster to return the cart. I also try to stay on my side of the aisle and look both ways when crossing into another aisle. But I must have gotten on the bad side of the cart god's because seems like every cart I get lately has a tire issue, so I find myself drifting, sagging, squeaking all the way down the aisle. If I find it in time I try to get another cart but sometimes I just don't notice till I'm already across the store or have a few items in it. Just BUGS me!!!! And it really bugs me when ppl park their cart on one side of the aisle then cross over and look at stuff on the other side. PICK A SIDE FOR CRYING out loud!!!!!!

I handle the abandoned cart issue bc DH is usually walking behind me. If there is no possible owner in sight I push it out of my way (bc invariably it's blocking the whole aisle) with my foot going full speed ahead in my chair LOL. I've never yet had someone holler hey that's my cart. Who are these people who pick out 15 items then leave the store?! I also like to cart stare - while waiting in line I try and figure out what these people are having for dinner, do they have kid's, etc. only had one person ask what I was doing. I was so thrown I said "trying to figure out what you eat" ROFL |

I had to collect carts when I worked at my Dad's store. Was fun when it wasn't freezing out. The cart surfing wasn't too bad either |

This is definitely one of my pet peeves--in the burbs, most people arrive to the grocery and box stores by car (I know that isn't the case for downtown stores however)--so is it that hard for them to abide by the same rules of the road that they do while driving? Never mind, I just remembered how people drive around here, so that rule isn't going to improve the situation! ![]() I will say that Target has done me NO favors in this department, since they reset all their stores to have grocery sections/fresh foods, they have made their aisles narrower--two carts can barely pass one another!--at the SAME time they brought in new (LARGER) red molded plastic carts. I don't EVER walk away from my cart (my DS is usually riding shotgun!) so when I find someone hogging the aisle I usually start addressing him (offering him a snack from my purse, adjusting the volume on his handheld game LOL) so they notice I am there, if they don't take the hint from my making noise then I will say 'excuse me.' If they are still not budging then I will use my cart to steer theirs out of the way. The one fortunate thing is that we live in an area where most people are polite (clueless, but polite!) so I haven't seen people getting worked up about it. My sister lives in Chicago and man, when I am there I don't even want to go in the stores with her seeing the way that some of the shoppers there have acted. My little guy was nearly run over in an IKEA (and in a pretty swanky area too!) |

I always end up having to move carts for people that appear 2 seconds AFTER I move their cart and give me a nasty look for doing their job. The electric carts that belong to individuals never seem to be the problem it is always the ones using a store owned carts that will run you over in a nano second and then expect you to apologize for them hitting you. I have a friend that uses the store electric carts and I refuse to shop with her she is dangerous to herself, the shelves and other shoppers. She is also the type that is too lazy to take the cart back into the store. Her attitude is "well they will send someone out to get it I'm too tired" - tired from running stuff over I guess. I do love Aldi just for the carts - it is so nice not to have them all over the parking lot and they are neatly stored.

I got whacked today by a lady in a Walmart power cart! She was zipping down the aisle, I know she saw me but she never stopped! The metal basket part wailed my knees. Then she yells at me! She actually said I should've moved out of the way...aarghh....knees still ache, actually have an indent |

About the sudden stops and starts on store machines, People stop and start on them because they are usually dying from not being plugged in. Or idiots joyriding on them. Walmart here can't asks kids playing on them to get off for fear of getting into trouble, but I got the stink eye for using one after a C-section cause I didn't look like I needed it? Also every store I take my mom too the carts brakes are in different spots, and yep some move faster from the same motion that stops others.

Not so much a driver's ed... but seriously people that manufacturer these carts. Can you please spend 10 minutes considering that there are people who are not amazon tall trying to steer the things! I'm 4ft 11 and most cart handles come up around my chest/neck area. This makes it 1. incredibly uncomfortable 2. nearly impossible to steer if I dare to halfway fill a buggy because I have no leverage over heavy items like cat litter on the bottom of my cart (being short and trying to heave a 35 pound container of cat litter up and over the edge of the buggy is no fun...then even ATTEMPTING to reach back in to heave it OUT when you get to your car). I can't stand cart abandoners either.. I push them out of the way. |

One of our local stores has two sizes of carts, one big one that's fairly tall and has an extra bin below the seat section - it has a deep basket. Then there's the petite version. Not as tall, not quite as deep, but still holds a good amount. So the manufacturers provide options, it's what your store buys into. |

What about the social gatherings in the aisles ? I had two women with carts blocking the end of an aisle. They were just chatting away while I was standing there waiting to go. They both looked at me and were still chatting . I had to start pushing my cart right at them before the woman decided she could scoot hers over. RUDE. |
