| mom sent sick kid to my house...turns out he has the flu
my son was invited to a sleepover at his friends this weekend...I told him no because we were having our tag sale and his help was needed but it was OK for his friend to stay here. He stayed over saturday night and left sunday. Well mom calls today to ask about something else and just before she hangs up goes oh, by the way, all my kids have the flu. So I'm like ugg. Then she is telling me oldest daughter and youngest were sick since last week. OK so why then when you invite another child to your house or send your child to someone else's house. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm so ticked...not only is my house exposed now but I had a ton of friends and relatives here over the weekend for my tag sale. Unfreaking believable. So anyways her son is really sick..so she brought all three kids to the doctor...they all tested positive for strain A flu. So now we wait. My son went through his whole room with lysol spray and wipes but at this point I'm not sure what good it will do. so frickin ticked.

beef up his immune system to with vits, good eats and plenty of rest...even if he is exposed, if his immune system is strong, he can fight it off completely or only get mild case

I would be ready to fight!!! I am so anal retentive about germs, etc. anyway. If someone knowingly sent their sick kid to my house it would probably take quite awhile for me to be on good terms with them again. My in-laws gave my baby a virus last Christmas after fibbing to me and telling me that they weren't sick anymore It was two days before Christmas and I understand that they wanted to see him but they needed to wait until they weren't contagious anymore. I was so upset for awhile over that. Sorry to hijack, I really hope your family doesn't get sick. Take care.

UGH! I can't stand when people ignore that they are sick at the expense of others! I know they don't want to be stuck at home, but why are they so selfish about it that they don't care about infecting other people?!? Even when people think their cold or "mild flu" is no big deal, it may be a bigger deal to the person who catches it from them. They could have a young baby at home or take care of an elderly person or could be uninsured or just can't afford to miss work. It was so annoying when people would show up for work claiming their look of death was "just allergies" and within 2 days the rest of us were sick with their "allergies". I don't like to overreact by becoming a hermit and staying at home to avoid becoming sick, but you can't trust other people to use common sense!

Wow.. I'd be wanting to tell you she could pay my medical bills since she knowingly sent someone exposed to the flu to my house! ugh. We have health ins and we still are at 400.00 between tamiflu and antibiotics along with dr. visits! He's being treated as if he has h1n1 so I kept my daughter home from dance class just in case she would have it. Why risk it? There are 1 year old babies that are in there watching their sisters! That's disgusting that that mother did that! |

This sort of thing REALLY gets me going! My in-laws do this sort of thing all the time, and it really TICKS me off! They know I'm paranoid (not really paranoid, but hey, why would anyone willingly expose themselves to sickness), but yet time and again, we'll be over there only to find out after we've already been there for a couple hours that so and so is sick...I mean, can they not tell me that BEFORE we come over. I'm pregnant, and have a 2 y.o., I don't need their sickness! Like I said, ticks me off...

Some people just have no common sense or thoughts for others. Definitely try to boost the good health practices in your house for a while to try to fight this off. Sorry you were all so thoughtlessly exposed, and hope no one catches anything!

I send my kids to pre-school sick all the time! I have to do it. It's not that I don't care about germs or other kids getting sick. 1) where do you think they got sick in the first place? 2) I can't possibly miss work every time they have a cough or the sniffles! I've missed and had to make up 7 days of work in the last 9 weeks because one of my sons could not go to school due to fever or vomiting. If I add in the days that one of them had sniffles or a cough... I'd lose my job. I did not however, send them to anyone's house for a sleepover!

That would totally tick me off! My brother is bad about coming over here and bringing his boys over when they are sick. We just had a 4 day stay at the hospital with our daughter because she had Viral Bronchitis (and couldn't keep her oxygen levels up) caught from..you guessed it..my brother and his boys. I've been sick for the past month, can't seem to shake it and when I get to feeling a little better, I come down with it again due to being exposed to it again. I don't willfully expose anyone to a virus or bacterial infection. If I'm sick, I try to stay away from people and I try to stay at home. We had to spend 150 dollars we didn't have for antibiotics for our DD because of this infection, plus whatever her hospital bill is. So I would absolutely be ticked off if someone sent their child knowing they were sick to my house so my DD would be exposed to H1N1 or anything else infectious. I got upset with my FIL because he wouldn't wear a mask at the hospital and he was coughing and sniffling then had the nerve to hug and kiss my DD. GRRR

I agree it was very inconsiderate of her to send her son to your house sick but...(please do not get mad) in all honesty EVERYONE around here is sick-my ped. said if you lined up four kids one would test positive for H1n1. Like one of the other posters said sometimes when you have a cough or sniffles staying at home is not an option... I went to Panera bread today....my cashier was coughing (on my credit card-yuk), the person beside me was hacking, I myself am still coughing 3 weeks later and as I sat eating my lunch there was a coughing chorus throughout the ENTIRE restraunt. This virus travels up to 10 feet and can survive on objects for a long time....I guess what I am getting at is although it was wrong what she did ..in less you plan on living in a bubble you will be exposed ...If someone does show symptoms..get antivirals ASAP... they are most affective if you start taking them within 48 hrs of symptom onset! Goodluck!!

I am so sorry this happened to you. I do have one suggestion though, I have a friend that is germaphobic and before she invites anyone for a sleepover she will ask "Is anyone in your household sick?" She is an MD and works with wound care, and it doesn't offend me in the least. (Of course I know I would never live it down if I actually gave her family something! )It is everywhere, but I am extremely cautious and try to avoid things as much as I can. Good handwashing, common sense and hand sanitizer are my answers and we are rarely sick at our house. Having said that however, DD and DH BOTH got H1N1 from a child that was sent to school with it. I am a SAHM so I was able to keep DD home for the 5 days necessary to make sure she didn't spread the germs around. Not everyone has that luxury. You read on the forums every day that if the poster stayed at home with a sick child they would lose their job, that schools require a ped. note for every absence (and no health ins.).
