| GRRRR!!!Neighbor's Dog Do Doo
Okay so the older couple that live beside us have this little poodle that comes over in our yard and poops...everyday. We have said something to them but it still hasn't worked they don't watch him when they let him out. If the older man happens to walk out while he is pooping in our yard he yells at him to come here and asks him what he's doing over there (like he's gonna answer). Anyways, I don't want to be mean to them or really the dog either. The woman is super nice and watches Cayden for us twice a week while I'm in school. My husband has told the man that he is going to put up an electric fence if it continues. This dog has also peed on my bushes and they are dying as well... short of shooting a bb gun or something I'm at my wits end with this situation. Any ideas? Any sprays that work? Home Remedies? Please Help!!!

There isnt a lot that you can really do if youve talked to them, Could you maybe try talking to them again and let them know that the dog needs to be watched while out? Dogs like to 'mark' things and if the dog has been going to the bathroom in a certain spot its going to continue to. Does the dog poop in the same place everyday? You can either deal with it or maybe talk to them again and let them know that you dont really want your child running around in the yard and step in it. I think Id be more likely to just either leave it or dispose of it, if it were me. Im a huge animal person so it wouldnt bother me to pick it up, but I can understand how frustrating it is. |

There are leash laws in most states. I think if you tell them politely that you trust their dog to not hurt your child, but you don't think it is fair to have to clean up his poop, and as long as they come do it a few days a week, you won't make an issue out of them violating the leash law.

I was reading on google and apparently there is something that you can buy to sprinkle on your lawn that will make the dog not want to poop there anymore, Maybe look into that?

This happens to us all the time...we don't have pets, but the people that walk their dogs around the neiborhood...just let their dogs poo on everyone's yard even though there is a sign that says to pick up after their dog or the homeowners association will fine!! Who's watching? We just call it the fertilizer...some people are not responsible pet owners...I think that is just careless -some people treat their dogs like their kids so then why wouldn't they want to pick up after them...? Sorry for the over the top thinking!! I wish I could give you some tips, but at this point I am in the same boat!

You can buy a spray called Keep Off! You have to re-apply every 24 hours though. I found it at Petco, I don't know how much it is anymore. I used it to train my 2 cockers Bella and Toby. If that wont work, collect the poo in a bag and put it on the doorstep! |

I would think this might be a case of choosing your battles. If they watch your son you obviously have a good relationship with your neighbor. I'm sure it's super annoying, but it might be worth it to let it go to maintain a good relationship with them.

This bring back funny memories about to neighbors of mine. The ending was not cool but.. The one neighbors dog did the exact same thing to other neighbor and the other neighbor would take the poop over and throw it in his yard. This went on for awhile and then finally the other neighbor went and got horse poop and put it in front of his garage door and he took them to court for doing that and my other neighbor had to pay him damages for his concrete driveway. The good thing about it was he want them to have to redo his whole driveway. The court told them that they should have called human society for the problem and they counter sued them and got nothing for the dog destoring their beautiful plants and grass. |

My in-laws dog occasionally wanders into the neighbor's yard. The neighbor just calls and tells them. Or sometimes, the poo gets thrown over the property line. You could try that.....

I think if you put the dog poo in their yard every time it happens- ven if they are watching it might get the message across- My dog- bless her heart, is almost 14 yrs old. My kids sometimes accidentally let her out the front door- I have a fenced in back yard which is where we normally let her out- but I swear my dog has an aversion to pooping in my front yard and prefers my neighbors yard- I ALWAYS clean it up immediately!! Otherwise it is just rude and tacky! Once I called them because their shih tzu pooped several times on my sidewalk - and I was carrying my DD then a baby to the car and was afraid I would step in it- I went over, let the husband know- he apparently told the wife and it started a big thing where I was not talked to or even acknowledged- ithurt my feelings. I was not rude- but she took it personally. Now we are past that- but I ALWAYS p/U right away. You have it good, somoene to watch your child when you need it- I also agree it might be wise to pick your battles- what do you prefer- green plants and a poo free yard or someone you trust to look after your child- because if you pick the green lawns you may be finding a new sitter- whether it is right or wrong- just the fact. Good luck...still like the idea of putting the poop in their yard though- I mean why and how could they be annoyed at that- if it does not seem to bother them when their dog poops on your yard, they should not have a problem to you kindly placing it in thier yard.....right? If its good enough for you - why not for them- !

They sell these bricks that have a smell that attracts the dogs to want to pee and go doo doo by it. They are like 5 to 10 bucks a brick and i would by one and put it somewhere in my neighbors yard! Or i like the putting the poop on the door step.

I know some people use moth balls to deter animals, but I don't know how well that works. I would also just pick my battles and consider the doodie issue a small one in return for having someone watch my little one. I tend to be fairly laid back and if there really isn't obvious harm to people or property, I will let it go.

Putting the crap in their yard or on their door step or smearing it under the handles of their car simply won't work. Been there done that - Yeah I have a couple of morons like this next door to me. If after numerous attempts falling on deaf ears I would simply call the authorities and have them 'splain it to them. Although it won't make for easy living arrangements - ours have been at war since with us since and we've recently had to put them on written notice that if they don't knock off their "Harrassment" we will look to legal recourses. (after we first brought up their dogs little calling cards not being picked up (and before we called the authorities) they in turn complained about "some grass" blowing onto their driveway after we mow and "some water" blowing on their vehicle after our watering the lawn puleesse I wonder what they do when it rains!) although I have to admit we do now get Respect. And on top of them having their dogs use our property as their personal toilet, these boneheads also would have their kids running throughout our garden, they would have their visitors park in our driveway when they thought we weren't home and have their other visitors park their motorbikes on the sidewalk in front of our homes for which they had a visit from the Police and a nice little citation GUESS WHAT? IT WORKED!.....some people just are plain RUDE and INCONSIDERATE and there is only one language that they understand. |

Well I'd toss the poop on there stoop. You have spoke to them so they know you know it is them and it is unwanted. PPl can b so rude. I know this has happened to me. I say look pick it up or i will and u wont like where i place it. Well after calling my bluff and following them with there dog pop in a bag and depositing it on there steps I think I called em on it. So far so good now. Good luck

I have been known to hand out grocery bags to people who are walking their dog on my lawn. ("Did you forget your bag? Here, I have an extra. You can't just leave that there, you know.") It's so hard to catch them in the act though. I'm on the HOA where we live, and we do respond to complaint letters - we let the dog owners know that there have been complaints and we ask them to pick up after their pets. The complainants are told to call the sheriff if they see someone not obeying leash laws. My FIL had this problem with a neighbor -- until he used a shovel to fling a pile into the neighbor's pool! I think it stopped after that.

We have 4 dogs and a privacy fence in the back yard and I carry poop bags when we go on walks or are away from the house. I know the poop is annoying but the urine is more damaging to your plants. I can't remember for sure, but I think we had to add some sort of chemical that was mostly a base to counteract the acid of the urine on a tree we added to the back yard a couple of years ago. I also had to buy a potted plant to distract the dog who kept peeing on the tree. I'm sure it was pretty funny listening to me tell my dog to use his pee pot. |
