Yep, feel you on this one. When I first started telling people I was using coupons, I got laughed at. Until I told them on my first trip I saved $74. Now everyone wants me to tell them what to do.

I know exactly what you mean! One of my closest friends is always excited about my deals, but never wants to put in the work to get them for her own family! This has been going on for months! She actually asked if she could just come pick out a few things from my spare room! Ummmmm, NO! You have the coupons, a nice car, plenty of time, and I showed you exactly what to do...if you have any ?'s, just call me, or I'll even tag along if you want, but it is now time to put on your big girl panties and face the sales yourself! It is so frustrating! On the other hand, though, my brother is a 27 yr old Navy war vet, and wanted to learn! I took him with me to Meijer, and he was so excited to walk out with food for $0 OOP! We got out into the parking lot, and he let out a whoop! He said I would never know how much it meant to him that I took the time to show him the ropes! Awwwww! So I guess you never really know until you try with someone, but it can get aggravating with some, that is for sure!

I hate it when people say I just don't have time. My response to that excuse is pretty simple.

I save an average of $60 weekly on grocerys or at least 50%. I spend what 3 hours a week clipping, organizing, and making my list. That works out to $20 in savings per hour of coupon effort. Does YOUR job pay you so much that you can throw $60 a week in the trash?? No you make $10/ hour. So that's $30 worth of your time to coupon. Still a $30 profit. Still to much trouble? Well give me the $60 and I'll shop for you.

You know, I have not looked at it that way. I remember so many times sitting down to watch TV and just sitting there eating a bunch of crap. Now, I clip and organize my Q's during that time. Soooo, maybe not only can you save money by couponing, but perhaps you can loose weight too!!!


Seriously though, the excuses drive me crazy. The cashier at Walmart the other day was talking about never having the time to coupon shop and I was like 'um you work AT Walmart?!?'.

That is so funny...I was just thinking the other day the same thing. I have been doing the coupon thing for only about 2 months and I am SOOOOOOOOO excited about it that I'm telling everybody. I have just recently started, and I was REALLY excited about my first few trips so I told EVERYONE I knew.(LITTERALLY!) I got mixed reviews, and a few people told me that they thought I was lying because it wasnt possible to get what I did for nothing. My mother in law said she wanted me to show her how to do it and that didnt work out so well. I gave her the list, the coupons(from MY binder), and told her where to go. Guess what....she didnt even go! She said she didnt have time to go before the sale went off! How can you not find the time to stop at a store on your way home for free stuff??? I am NOT doing it again. I send everyone who has questions now to AFC. The only person I am helping now is my mom. She cant really grasp the whole thing on her own, so she gives me the money for her papers, and splits the price for ink for IPs with me and I do the work for her. SHe does go with me most of the time though.

I TRIED to tell my brother and his wife about it but they wouldnt listen to anything I had to say. Her response was, "We get food stamps so we dont need to use coupons." After that stupid remark I didnt even try anymore.

i ordered my mil and stepfather in law coupons for the meijer sale this week on del monte veggies...for 90 yes 90 cans it would have been 14.xx and my fil said he couldn't go tonight (the last night of the sale) cause he was watching SIL's DOG! get off your butt and put the dog in the bed room and go and do it! I told him to put the dog in a room and he was like...well i can use these another day...i would still be saving money right...well darn it all i would have used the coupons myself if i would have known that! GRRRRRRR! I could have used another 90 cans of veggies!

So true, but it tends to in everything besides coupons. It gets frustrating helping people that you wonder if they really want it. I keep trying though.

I look at couponing as a job. I spend lots of time at it, but I save my family TONS of money. If people want to go to the store and buy only what they need and pay regular price then let them.

Amen to that. I used to talk to my co-workers...but then got ridiculed. I stopped chatting about it, because one co-worker says it's cheaper to shop at Costo/Sams..(yeah, whatever, I refuse to pay 40 a year to some thing like that).

I just keep it to myself. I dont even really mention my deals to DH, and he still thinks i'm weird for sitting on AFC> he hates this website...he said he can't believe i waste my time on it. Whatever...couponing and AFC is a GREAT hobby to have. We r saving money, and thinking about our family, what could mean any more than that?

Well I understand what you all are saying....although I haven't really tried to teach anyone to use Q's. One cashier who saves me inserts seems to think it's kinda funny I use coupons etc...but I think with her its a case of not understanding the big picture (the fact that I can save tons of $$)
My gripe is my ex husband....I get so tired of hearing my kids come back from visitation with him and talk about not having any food to eat! When we were married I did all the shopping and used thrift stores and clearance and grocery stores like Aldis etc...didn't coupon back then but was still very frugal.
I have tried to tell my ex to do these things but he acts like I have two heads or something and blows me off. After a really rough spot for him last year (no electric for awhile and no hot water for 6 months!) he finally started going to Aldis to get cheaper food and said to me...."wow things really are cheaper there" uh.. how many years did it take you to figure that out?!
and when my kids told him how I coupon and how much I save and how much I can stockpile my ex and his new wife had the nerve to tell my kids "Your mom should give us things" !!! The NERVE of some people! I work my behind off to save $$ and they spend it like its water and then have no money for bills etc and want me to support THEM?!

Ok I am off my rant now...I feel better! thanks oh and one more thing...I LOVE my DH....he is awesome about couponing and stockpiling!

my dh gets very agervated with all the coupons all over the place and the free stuff every where(befor my darling sisters helped me put it together!!) but now i have a stockroom and my desk on the corner of my livingroom (my front entryway since my front door latch is brocken i have it blocked off) dh is still not suportve with my couponing, he tells me all i do is ether sit at the computer or clip coupons and i tell him that i dont work anymore i dont have set hours of couponing since couponing is just like work so i do it when he's home so that if dd needs anything he can help her and i can get it done! plus i do my mommy and wife work during the day so i tell him my couponing is what i do instead of watching tv or i feel i cant just watch tv anymore that i could watch it and coupon. just remember all you ladies that have there hubbies proud and bragging, of how lucky you are that they apresheate what your doing!!!!

I have been trying to teach my best friend for months now. She's slowly catching on but still really doesn't wanna do the work. I call when I run across a really good deal and let her know. Her husband doesn't help her much so she ends up buying pretty much anything that goes in the house. They make more than we do and I still manage to keep everything turned on and things stocked. I used to pick up a few things here and there for her cause I live in the city and she lives in a smaller town close by. We have more stores than her. That was until she had been looking for these air fresheners. I ran across some and called and ask if she wanted me to grab some for her. And she could give me the money back. I was coming by her house that day anyways. She said yeah and asked me to pick up a pack of dividers too. Ok no problem. I got there and she doesn't have the money. I haven't picked up anything since then. If she asks I just say I'm broke.

I used to work at WM also, and let me tell you, the last thing you want to do at the end of a shift is to run around there with a shopping cart! Also, I am in a small town, all the shoppers know who you are, at least by sight. Sometimes doing more work on your own time. Plus, with the way the IP policy was back and forth on acceptance and what not, was not worth the hassle. Bad enough when the CSM's give you that look, worse when you have to work with them, kwim?
