I am sick of when I go to the grocery store I get an evil eye for choosing plastic over paper. I opt for plastic instead of bring my own canvas bags or using paper because I use those plastic bags to clean up after my puppy! I had been purchasing "Bags on Board", but since I use around 3 bags a day, that just adds up way too quickly. Plus I use the bags to put garbage in from the bathroom and bedrooms.

I actually have the ladies at work save the bags that the paper comes in for me and I use those as well.

But to get back to my original rant... stop giving me the evil eye when you ask me paper or plastic!

I have never had this problem, but use mine for that as well. I also use them when I have yard sales.

Don't they know you can recycle plastic too?

I don't have animals and never had any problems with the "evil eye", but I use mine for those stinky dirty diapers that both my children give to me on a daily basis.

plus I use them in the bathroom trash cans and when I get an excess of the bags, I take them to a local thrift store who is always asking for people to bring the bags in as they use them to put their customers' items in.

I have never gotten the evil eye either. I have the reusable bags, but often forget to bring them in. So, I get plastic and recycle most of them. Some are used for poopy diapers and some are used for garage sales, but most of the time, they are recycled. People need to get a grip. I am all for going green, but, I can only do so much. some days I forget....life goes on. I do my best and that's all I can do.

You guys who can still get paper bags are lucky! We've only had the option of plastic bags in my area for quite some time. I like paper bags for recycling newspapers because you can throw the whole bag in the bin, can't do that with the plastic bags.

They should in NO WAY be giving you the evil anyways. I worked at a grocery store when I was a teenager. Not only is it a pain in the butt to pack the paper bags, but the grocery store strongly discourages using them because they cost a lot more than the plastic.

I think most everyone who gets the plastic bags reuses them. We use them everyday here.

On another note though I do get mad when I have a big cart full at a store and the cashier puts 2 or 3 items in each bag. It's stupid to walk out of the store with 30 bags when you could've had 15. KWIM?

Where ever I go, they start going for the plastic and say Is plastic OK??. I actually get the "evil eye" when I use my canvas bags or ask for paper bags (I reuse for paper recycling). I reuse the plastic bags too and when the surplus gets too great- I take a huge bag of plastic bags to the bag recycling bin at Walmart or the supermarket.

I read that it actually cost MORE to manufacture paper bags (energy,etc) than plastic so the point of choosing them over plastic to be Greener is a moot point. And you are re-cycling/re-using them~ ignore the evil eyes-you're good!

now if you are just throwing them into the wind so they can catch on trees and looks ever-so-lovely, (which you're not) then that's another story !

I use paper, plastic and canvas. I just do not have enough canvas bags for when I go grocery shopping, and since we do not have any extra money... I only am able to get hem when they run some type of deal making free. But I use my paper for my recycling, I just fill it up and when it is full I take it to the larger recycling can. And I reuse my plastic for dirty diapers, garage sales, small trash cans, and I take the extras to the Salvation Army. And when I can't make it there I turn them into the recyling center at grocery stores.

Just remember....People will always be opinionated ... and no matter what you can't please everyone.

some stores actually get annoyed when I want to use my own bags! Also, the grocery store never wants to give me paper, always plastic. I do re-use the plastic bags for other purposes, so it's not terrible unless they wrap like every single thing in it's own bag.

I also use those plastic bags for the mini trash cans in our bedrooms. I just swap using my canvas bags. I use my canvas bags 3 of the 4 weeks in the month. One shopping trip for plastic bags is all I need...

Ok having 5 kidss 6 and under. I have small garbage cans scattered thruout my house. Lined with... yeap you got it plastic bags. It saves me so many steps per day not having to walk to the can every 5 min. I know alot of people who buy bags for the little cans at the dollar store. what a waste. I also give each of the kids a bag at the end of the day and we do cleanup. each kiddo fills their bag with stuff and puts it away. saves lots of time running back and forth. I have gotten that look. So I know just what you mean.

Well, I am glad I am not the only one still using the plastic bags. I definitely do not live in a progressive area (actually, I think most people are still stuck in the 60s...) but I feel like a lot of ppl at the store I shop uses the canvas.

I would totally as for the paper bags more often, but I do like 2-3 weeks of shopping in one trip and lugging it to my upper apt is a huge pain.

I try to use my reusable bags.
But I also get the plastic too, to use and dog pick up bags, diaper pail liners, and small garbage can liners.

I am currently using my plastic bags for the bathroom and bedroom garbage as well. My problem is that I have so many that for now I am using my canvas bags. I don't think too many people around here are using canvas yet so there are no evil eyes here. I think it is completely fine if you are reusing them. Alot of people crumple them up and put them in the garbage.

I use plastic bags too and everyone looks at me funny. But I use them again. It's not like they go straight to the garbage.....

In this area you would get the evil eye too. Paper is worst then plastic for the environment. I think getting some plastic bags that are re-used over and over is not the end of the world especially if they are replacing bags you would buy anyways. I think getting plastic bags and just throwing them in the trash is just not fair to my kids that will have all this "stuff" that will just not go away. (It does take atleast 1000 years for a bag to begin degrading). Hey to each his own, but they also hold so much more and are much easier to handle. What takes 9 plastic bags can fit in about 3 large fabric bags.

I use plastic but re-use them for scooping kitty litter, throwing out dirty diapers and for lining the trash cans in the upstairs bathrooms. I also am planning on a big garage sale on May 30 so will be using them then....I would say that is 'RECYCLING'

I try to only use the re-usable bags because I DON'T use the plastic ones for anything. BUT my parents use them for garbage (they have a dumpster @rental property) so if I get any they get them. I don't have a problem with anyone who gets them and uses them instead of buying plastic bags. What grinds me is the ones who say I have lots of those and just throw them out. Thrift stores and pantries will take them, so I guess I'm saying I don't mind if anyone gets plastic as long as they don't just throw them out.

our stores only have plastic and I use them too, so while i have some canvas bags...I don't use them for groceries cause i need them for stinky diapers (I am the diaper genie here!) and garbage in the bathroom and babies room, garage sale bags!!! and nasty food on clean out the fridge day.

So that is my form or recycled bags...I use them more than once

Most stores have a bin at the front that you can return your plastic sacks to for recycling.... ours never make it there because they are generally reused before that!
