| 3 Borders book ended up costing $90.00!
I am SO mad! We started the 'envelope system' last month, the only money we kept in the account was gas money (easier for DH to pay at the pump).. but he forgot to record one gas purchase and the 3 - $1.07 Borders purchases (made with the $5 OFF Code) ended up costing us $90.00 because of 3 $29.00 overdraft fee's. I havent even got the books yet... and I cant cancel the order online because I made the purchases as a 'guest'. Seriously.. everytime we try to SAVE money, we end up LOSING money!

That is SO frustrating!!! I did the same thing last month where I forgot to record the automatic withdrawal for our interenet service and I ended up paying 2 overdraft fees before I got it straightened out.

There is a toll free number you can call and get an update on purchases anytime to keep that from happening. You can usually transfer $ from one account to another on the phone also. I am the only one that uses a " card " for purchases and I have to call, because its so easy just to think, " I'll log it in later "...............

Even if you cancel the book order, you will still be paying the overdraft fee (I believe). Check with your bank to make sure, but if that is the case then I'd say keep the books.

Call Customer Service, if you haven't had an overdraft in a while sometimes they will remove the bank charges as a one time thing. Since the amount was so little they might consider it. Just let them know you have been a customer for XX of years (if you have other family members that use the bank mention that, but only if they have good credit), haven't had an overdraft before and was only over by $1. on an internet order. It is worth a shot, all they can do is say no. One phone call could be worth $90, not a bad hourly rate... |

One time I forgot to make a pretty big deposit and ended up with $300 or so of overdraft charges! Well, the bank looked over my records and I had never done anything like that before so they forgave the charges completely. It never hurts to call, especially if you are a loyal customer who has been responsible in the past.

Earlier this yeear my hubby was supposed to deposit some cash in the account. He forgot to on the first day and did it the second. We had a automatic draft for our electric bill go thru on the first night, which was early. Not knowing it had made the account go negative went and got groceries and and all sorts of stuff. We spent less than $40 that weekend and it cost us over $800 in overdraft fees. Thet would only refund us $50 of the fees, and it took us a month to get out from under it. We later found out the original negative charge was only over by 18 cents. I was soooooooooooooooo pissed off at my dear almost departed hubby. If he had just deposited that money when he was supposed to we never would have had to go thru that.

Call the bank. They should forgive at least two (if not all three) of the fees.

I had that issue a few months back with a secondary bank account (my fun money)~~there was an automatic withdraw that i apparently hadn't switched over to our primary account and because of that all of my little $1, $2 purchases resulted in overdraft fees which put me in the negative around $300. My bank had email option when you had a problem. So they received a really nasty email right off the bat. I couldn't justify paying $300 in overdraft fees for purchases that were only a few bucks. I insisted that their system was faulty because this happened over several days. At some point you would have thought my card would have been declined because i was already in the hole!!!! Oh no, i continued to make little purchases (all at cvs) because i thought i had enough money in the bank. Well after several emails back and forth and me telling them I wouldn't deposit any money until they reversed the charges and that i would close the account and take my business elsewhere. They reviewed my history and because i had a long history with them and had not had this problem before they credited my account. You really have to fight them on this.
