My Klondike are also 2/$5. I think Jess has a much better store, her deals are always better than mine! I want to move to RI. hahaha

We have a lot of grocery stores here so it must be the competition (Stop and Shop, Shaws, Whole foods, Aldi, Target). I never realized just how much variation there was

I guess it's time to do the comparing again. For anyone interested - I open up 2 browsers and pull up my stores weekly circular and then open the other browser and pull up Cranstons - (I put in 02920 as the zip) and I get the cranston flyer. I then go from page to page and see if there are difference (really easy to see going back and forth). If there are, and it's something I want and it's cheaper in Cranston, then I'll print that page out and bring it with me. S&S will price match to the other store when I'm checking out! I did it with the skippy PB this past week!!! Ours was 2/$4 and Cranston was $.99 each. I got 2 for $.49 each instead of 2 for $1.50 each!!!

So I did some comparing and I found the Klondike bars in Cranston are 2/$3 and the ones in Smithfield are 2/$5 Can you believe the difference?? Also the Quilted Northern or the Brawny is $5.99 in Smithfield and $4.99 in Cranston. It is just blowing my mind that we are so close and the price differences. i wonder how much money I've blown just shopping near my house rather than a little further away or bringing the circular with me. it's really getting me frustrated!!! Even if I use coupons on stuff at my stop and shop, I still won't get it at as low of a price as the cranston store.

Jess, I wonder if that is what it is for your area. I have a Shaw's, S&S, Walmart, Sam's, Target, Market Basket, Hannafords, BJs and at least 1-2 others that I can't think of off the top of my head, all within a few miles of each other and my S&S still has the higher prices. :-( Stefani, I wish I could do something like that. I checked all the S&S showing in the Manchester area and they all have the same price. I didn't bother to check Peterborough as it's too far away for them to even consider matching and too far for me to drive even if they did have lower prices. Oh well, I guess I'll just continue to do most of my shopping at Shaw's and only go to S&S when there is a kick-butt deal that I just can't pass up. :-) |

I actually have seen in the past couple of weeks that S&S has put up signs of what Shaws prices are and then the S&S price which is always at least $.50 cheaper. Pretty interesting how they are trying to compete so much. Fine with me - compete away!!!! Just give me lower prices!!!

Wow Stefani, what a difference a State makes huh? My Shaw's is always cheaper than my S&S, by quite a bit actually. Is the Cranston S&S the one that is cheaper, or the one you normally would shop at? My dh is a diehard S&S fan, hates Shaws, but since I'm getting about 47% savings there opposed to 26% savings at S&S, he's coming around. The one thing we buy constantly at S&S is dog food. They are the only store in the area that has the 22 oz cans of Alpo and none of the other stores carry it. |

I usually do most of my shopping at Shaws too, but notice that stop and shop is better for certain things. Corn on the cob is almost always cheaper Lettuce I think is slightly cheaper and better Same with cucumbers Kielbasa goes B1G1 a lot and my husband loves it Bananas used to be cheaper but I think the price just went up I don't think they limit you to 6 like doubles like Shaws does. And now that I'm paying more attention to the flyer I have noticed a few great loss leaders the past few weeks. I don't know why my store seems to have better prices than most on these. Maybe there are other things at your store that beat mine?

The cranston store is the cheaper one and the one I don't shop at usually. I'm price matching now that I know it though!! I wonder if there are things that are just cheaper everyday?? Those things I don't even think about usually. I already go to 2 stores for some things so i don't want to make it 3.

I don't know, its possible my every day prices are higher but I get better loss leaders? I'm at the point now where if it isn't on sale with a coupon I probably won't buy it, so I dont really pay attention to the shelf price. If I have needs I go to Aldi. (Actually I go to Aldi every week anyway because milk is 1.99 a gallon and that in itself makes it worth the trip)

I would love to have milk at $1.99, I'm lucky to get it at $2.99! I'm actually doing the poptart/milk deal at Shaw's this week so I can get a few gallons at .99! Here is what I plan to do for my S&S run tomorrow, what do you guys think???? 5 = Elmer's Washable School Glue = $1 4 = Dole Fruit Bowls = $2.19 - $6 worth of Q's for a total of $2.76 or $0.69 each 6 = Yoplait Trix Yogurt = $2.79 - $3 woth of Q's for a total of $13.74 or $2.29 each 10 = Old El Paso Taco Shells = $1.67 - $5 worth of Q's for a total of $11.67 or $1.17 each 16 = Hamburger Helper = $1 - $7.20 worth of Q's for a total of $8.80 or $0.55 each 10 = Suddenly Salads = $1 - $4.80 worth of Q's for a total of $5.20 or $0.52 each 8 = Toaster Strudel = $2 - $4 worth of Q's for a total of $12 or $1.50 each 1 = Reusable Shopping Bag = FREE, Q came with my mail the other day Subtotal = 55.17 S&S Rewards Q = - 10 $5 off when buying $20 GM = -5 Total = $40.17 for 60 items. I think this will go down as my BEST shop at S&S in MONTHS! I hope it all works out. :-) |

Sounds like a good plan. Where did you get the $10 S&S Rewards Q? As for the milk it is over $4 at my my Shaws for the cheapest brand so not even worth doing the pop tart thing for me. Isn't it funny how stuff like that varies so much?

The last time my dh when to S&S he had a catalina print out for $10 off next order over $10, he must have had points adding up that he wasn't aware of. I have no idea how they come up with these points, I couldn't find anything on their website. When I look at the bottom of the last receipt it says "S&S $10 Catalina Coupon", then lists points earned during the visit and the total so far. It's listed under the Card Awards. We've earned zero for milk since it's so expensive there in my area and he has a boat load for gas, I should have him get gas there tomorrow when we go to shop. LOL! |

I went tonight just to get a couple things we wanted. I used the hand scanner (not sure if everyone has this or not) and I was so excited. I went to get hamburgers and with the scanner it was save $2.00 on bubba burgers!!! These were the ones I was getting and they are usually $7.99 for 6!!! So now it was $5.99 for 6 with the scanner and I had a $1.00 off Q so $4.99 for 6 (2 lbs of meat and they are AWESOME!!). There was $.25 off of S&S hot dog and hamburger rolls and they are usually the cheapest anyway so i got one of each. They had some other stuff too that I didn't take advantage of tonight, but I love that scanner. It's like coupons that you don't have to clip, but you never know what your going to get. I'm just happy I didn't buy the burgers last week because it was $.50 off then. Wonder if everyone gets the same promotions. Anyway I got cheese and milk and salad and chips and other stuff and it all came to $22.00!! I was happy. I didn't have time to really shop so it worked out well that I got some good deals. I hate when I have to run there quick and I wind up spending so much because I can't plan first!

My Aunt uses the self scanner and swears by it. She says she always saves a lot. I tried it once but I was buying a bunch of produce so it was kind of a pain. If I were to do it again I would definately need to bring my binder with me because it was offering me money off stuff I had coupons for but they were at home.

I find that it usually offers some type of produce at a discount as well - whether it's 25% off or $.50 off - I can never find produce q's so its great for that too!!!

I don't know how I missed this the first time through the flyer but Hormel Natural choice lunchmeats are 2/5 and there is a 55 cent (or 1/2) coupon! I was going to get a couple of the Hillshire farm deli select but this is a better deal.

I went to S&S and noticed that the Hillshire farms hearty slice deli meat is 2/3 as well and there is a 75 cent coupon out there for that type.

Our stop & shop in town is a total rip off. The prices are MUCH better one town over. Even the advertised specials can vary. I must be closer to the one in the next town, because that's the flyer that is delivered with my mail. I bring it with me if I'm shopping at the stop & shop in my town, they'll honor the prices in the insert if I show them. Strange! Chris

Stefani - I mistyped. the price is 2/6 sorry about that. Still a good deal though. I only saw the ultra thin in the circular but the shelf tag for all varieties was 2/6 and it rang up as $3. (Stupid me didn't have the right coupon with me and they were out of Turkey in the variety I did have my coupon for so I had to buy one without the coupon). I will be going back later in the week to stock up.
