I've been playing around a bit and have found that the blogs here on AFC are pretty powerful! Some things I've discovered are...

customizing your blog - fonts, colors, backgrounds, etc...
adding categories to your blog
adding things to the sidebar in your blog...

I thought it would be fun and informative if you could post here when you find something interesting with the blogs. Give us a little blurb about what it is, a little how-to if necessary, and a link to what you are talking about if it applies...

I will use all this info from YOU to create a nice how-to for the blogs so that everyone can enjoy all the fun, new features!

How to add Categories to your blog

o.k. what fun things did I discover about the blogs.....well let me tell you, I can't get anything done here, reading all these blogs ....they are very impressive...But like I said can't get much done in the house, need to take a break from the blogs....

Monica, since you seem to know lots bout this Can you move your blogs into your categories after you already submitted them? Im having the hardest time!

Yes, you can move your blog posts into categories - you have to go Edit your blog entry and choose the category towards the bottom.

To get to edit mode, just find the button that looks like this when you are reading a blog entry:
Down under the post/smilies you'll find the Additional Options. The first thing in there are the Blog Categories that you can select.

I have only begun to play with the blog feature. I haven't had too much time but was tempted so I had to post a couple. I will play with more of the features and let you know if I find out anything extra cool that I can share. For now, just know that you guys ROCK. Seriously, no reason to ever leave AFC now! I should just tell my family good-bye because they won't see me away from the computer much now...

I'm not all that up to date on computer usage, why do people use blogs? Sorry if it's a dumb question.

sweetpea, for me...blogs are just like a journal. I am sure most people don't give a crap about my thoughts or my daily doings, but I find it very helpful to jot it down. I have used blogs for years. Some of my blogging has been about work, some has been about family issues, some just typing my daily in's and outs. But I have liked going back over the years and reading my own blogs.
On here, it could be useful to blog about your shopping trips (helps others too), to keep track of sales, etc.
I have really enjoyed reading other members blogs too. It is just a more personal feel to the AFC family. I like knowning about peoples kids, familys and feelings. I think it makes people remember we are all human and we all have our own trials and good times just like the next person.
That is just my humble opinion though

Is there a way to post pics of me and my family from my computer to the blog? When I tried to do so it looks like it only accepts URL images.

I believe you have to put images in your album first and then choose them to display in your blog. But I'm not positive on that - anyone else who has already added them that can answer?

mbpnursy - There is a blogs menu at the top of the forum - I added a few links in there to make it easier to navigate.

I have started a Photo Blog, (Adnil's Daily View!) and All I do is download the pic's I'm wanting to use from my computer to TinyPic.com, and then I use the [IMAGE] link that is given, and just add it to my post. Remember though, to set the size at 640x480 or smaller.

I use the 640x480 and it seams to be a good size for what I'm doing.

I added some pictures to one of my blog posts. It is just way to the bottom when you are typing a post. First, start a blog by clicking on "Post a Blog". It opens up a new message window (same as when you post). But, if you scroll all the way down, you will see a section like this:

Attach Files
Valid file extensions: bmp doc gif jpe jpeg jpg pdf png psd txt xls zip

and it has a "Manage Attachments" button there too. Click on the button and it will let you browse for photos on your computer. Then click Upload and there you go.
There might be other ways, but that is how I attached a couple of photos to my blog last night.

I haven't actually created a blog yet, but I have been reading some. One feature I just learned is to click on 'recent blogs' under blogs and it will give you a snip-it of each recent blog. This is neat because you can just scroll down to read all of the blog entries and not have to click on each individual blog.

I think the blogs are fantastic! I spent wayyyyy too much time reading thru the entries last night and I love the introspect it gives on the people here. That and I guess I'm just nosey! We're such a diverse group, I just think it's interesting to learn more about each other. Bravo to whomever had this brilliant idea!
