What to do with those Bread Ends?

What do you do with your "leftover" bread ends?

My family does not like to eat the ends of a loaf of bread so I have been saving them in my freezer vs. throwing them out as I used to, thinking that I would be able to do something with it sometime in the future.

Now is that time. I have a loaf of bread ends and don't know what to do what them?

Any suggestions?

I put mine in the food processor and make bread crumbs out of them. Then I put them in a ziplock and put them in the freezer. You can use them in meatloaf or to coat homemade chicken nuggets etc.

We use them for dog treats, . Our dog loves them. Bread crumbs are a great idea too. Or croutons.

So, you just take the bread, put in food processor to make crumbs, put in ziploc and back in the freezer?

OK...this may be a dumb question, but how exactly do you make bread crumbs? How do you dry out the bread?

You can dry out your bread by putting it in a low oven until they are dry.

I don't dry them first. I have a small processor called "Little Oscar" just like the electric handi choppers (holds about 2 cups) I just tear the pieces in quarters and throw them in and give them a few pulses and it is done and into the freezer they go.

You don't have too, but I prefer to do so, it makes the bread crumbs much more crunchy and you can keep them in you pantry much longer.

So do you have to put them in the freezer or can you leave them in the pantry if they are sealed?

I normally just make crumbs in my blender or food processor and use them as is. However once in awhile I want dry bread crumbs such as when I'm making chicken croquettes or such like. Then I layer the bread crumbs on a cookie sheet in a thin layer and turn the oven on low heat 200 or so and bake until they're dry enough to suit me. Stir them occassionally for more even dryness.

I toast these under the broiler and make bread crumbs out of them. I LOVE the flavor with the toasted bread. I also usually toss in some spices to jazz them up a bit. I keep them in a pizza shaker in my freezer. (I put a piece of waxed paper under the lid to keep them fresh and free of odors). Then I can just pull them out and use them anytime.

yes, this is exactly what I do as well. I toast the bread first them throw it into a food processor (blender works too!) and throw in some spices if you like seasoned bread crumbs (salt, pepper, mortons nature seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, parsley flakes, etc..whatever you have!). then I ziploc them and put them in the freezer to use in meatloaf, hamburger patties, meatballs, shake n bake chicken, homemade mazorella sticks, etc..

Yep, depends what you're using them for. If I use them inside of dishes like meatloaf, etc., then I don't worry about toasting them first and just pulse them in my food processor as is. If I want them spiced up to use as a coating then I drizzle a little olive oil over them and add whatever I want before putting them in the oven. They work great that way for making homemade croutons too.
