Thanks PMR - I've been snagging all my freebies all month!

I love my freezer too! I actually upsized last year or 2015, can't remember. It's move valuable now to us as empty nesters. We only do serious grocery shopping on occasion. Now a weekly trip is often under 10 items. The store where I buy meat typically puts family packs on sale so the room is needed!

Our old kitchen faucet needed serious replacing. We used 2 of the $50 Lowes gift cards that we bought for $40 each. We were also able to use a competitor coupon from Ace Hardware to receive an extra 20% off the price. No issues using the competitor coupon.

Dental Savings-I pay cash for Dental having no insurance, which gives me a 50% discount, but saved even more combining 2 appts into one.
I saved an additional $450!

Instead of having the Dentist put "Clear Resin Sealants", on teeth that are pre-cavities, I asked if the Dental Hygenist (that I trust) could do this procedure in my teeth cleaning appt. It took only 20 minutes to drip a fast drying liquid resin for 5 teeth, should last 5-15 years depending on wear.

Changing from my old Dentist, to a new one 5 years out of school I learned several new things. Who wouldn't want to avoid fillings & crowns?

If any of you do Netflix and have Apple devices, you can pay for Netflix through iTunes. If you can get a discounted iTunes GC this works nicely. Sometimes Costco sells them at a nice discount.

There are a couple of hoops to jump through to change the payment method to iTunes if you want to keep your existing Netflix account with yours lists. The procedure is on a FAQ list in Netflix.com. I just did the changeover so if anyone wants to do this but gets lost with the Netflix instructions, pm me. Just let me know how far you got before getting hung up.

I did the resin fill thing. It worked wonders for me. Before my Crohns diagnosis I was throwing up a lot, for about a year. My teeth took a beating. I had never had cavities before that and then suddenly as an adult I was getting a new one every couple of years. Finally asked the dentist if there was anything preventative we could do and he suggested the resin.

monkeydawn-Dental Sealants worked for us both, aren't they are a nice frugal choice?

DH and I go out to dinner Saturday nights, when I'm up to it. Last night I had a $5 off coupon to our favorite sandwich shop. We got a large brisket sandwich to share (reg is $8, lg is $10.50). It was more than enough to fill us.

After we went to a local food store that's been amping up it's rewards program. I got a $5 box of creamsicles and 2 bananas free. I also got $2 off $10 of dairy - milk and yogurt. Also stocked up on Barilla pasta at 97c per box.

MD suggested I try a Vegan Diabetic Diet & Sweet Potatoes work well for me. In the NW, the lowest price even on holidays is $1.79-$1.99/lb.
Yams $0.39/lb this week, I've never seen that here before.

Bought 30 lbs, took 5 days to bake & skin them, freeze on cookie sheets & put in Ziplocks, but I'm retired & enjoy cooking.
Surprised 30lbs only filled (4) one gallon Ziplocks.
My experiment was a lot of work since my Apt oven broke & I had to cook 5 at a time in my Toaster Oven. (We haven't owned a Microwave since 2008 due to the radiation-bad for an Autoimmune Disorder. In research, read that China & the Soviet Union have banned them years ago).

Last day of sale I bought another 36lbs. Still prepping them for the freezer, I have at least 6 months worth of eating them daily.
I'm so tired of looking at Yams, but what a nice savings on this new food plan, it's been an adjustment to feel full on a Grain-Free Vegan Diabetic Diet.

Reg. price @ $1.79/lb X 66lbs=$118.17
Sale price @ $0.39/lb x 66lbs=$25.74
Saved $92.40
.

Kmart/Sears have been giving away crazy amounts of free cash/points this month.....plus I've been busy playing all the sweeps daily. I have gotten 8 pillows, 3 pillowcases, sheetset,3 comforters, 2 can openers, 2 stadium chairs, potholders, kitchen towels and socks all for $7.39 oop. My fingers are crossed I keep getting all the free cash. I'm still buying for my twins move out boxes.

Got 4 griddles and 2 rice cookers for twins move out boxes and Xmas gift for friends for $1.33 each after rebates and Kohl's cash.

Hubby's work pays them back $50 for work shoes. He's found a pair at Kohl's so giving him my Kohl's cash to help cover the cost and then he'll get $50 back on his next check.

Found $1 / $1 cheese coupon. Right now block and shredded cheese is on sale for $1.25 so stocking up for $0.25 after coupon.

Resisted the urge to shop black Friday sales. I didn't even look at the ads. I didn't NEED anything. I was quite proud of myself! (I did shop Kmart and Sears black Friday ads but used points/ free cash to pay).

I have had to take a lot more prescriptions this past year - so many that I no longer have a copay through the benefit year ending 12/31. I'm going through the RX's before year end and refilling any that I can. It should save me $40 - $50.

1/1/18 will begin a new health insurance benefit year and I will have to begin paying $10 copays on my prescriptions again.

Didn't do any after Christmas shopping so have saved money and gas.

Have been very diligent about doing all the daily sweeps for SYW (sears/kmart) for my card and my mom's card. So far for January I have earned $43 in points on the 2 cards. Kmart / Sears have been giving away Freecash /Surprise points so have been using that too. I have gotten $102 worth of merchandise for 0 oop. I'm loving Kmart/Sears right now.

It's been very cold here so haven't gotten out much to go couponing or shopping and trying to work at home as much as I can - so saving gas.

Banana bread freezes well. You might make banana nut muffins and freeze them, taking only a few out at a time as needed. If you have a freezer big enough, that's one way to use them up.

Speaking of bananas, I went to WalMart today and bought a banana for 25 cents. It was the healthy offer of the week for Savingstar, so I submitted my receipt for the rebate of the same amount. Result: free banana. I like to have them sliced with vanilla yogurt, walnuts, raisins and a little cinnamon.

There's always Elvis' favorite: Peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

We are saving a lot of money on gas. We are in hibernation up here in the northern tundra. Our actual temperature was negative 20 something. Yes NEGATIVE I don't want to even remember what it was with the wind chill (close to negative 40?). Anyhow, this does help the pocketbook because I just want to stay home and eat out of the frig, pantry and stockpile. What we save on gas we do spend in the electric bill.

My frugal thing was organizing coupons and preparing trains. I ran to the post office when I did the after school pick up of "little guy".

Spring can't come quick enough......

HBO was free on President's 3 Day weekend, watched all movies I wanted to see from last year, the best was the "Zookeeper's Wife" with Jessica Chastain.

Planned a scenic drive for a "date day". We needed a fill-up but waited until we drove to another state where gas was cheaper $2.41 instead of $2.79 per gallon & filled up.

What kind of heating do you have? Electric heating is so expensive. Please do not laugh since our current temperature is 79 degrees, but it gets cold here and we do use heat sometimes. Our power company says electric heat is 3 times as expensive as cooling.

My frugal thing yesterday:
A friend gave us several overripe pineapples (some had mold on them), so I cut them up in chunks and froze them in ziplock bags (the Christmas clearance ones I got really cheap). Also kept a container full in the refrigerator for immediate use.
I'm hoping they will freeze well. We did not have fresh pineapple in a long time, since they are so expensive. I do have canned pineapple stockpiled from deals I got a while back. Now, we won't have to touch those.

Hi frugal friends! Haven't been on in a while since I'm unable to use the app on my phone but I so miss this thread.

-We finally broke down and purchased a snow blower right smack in the middle of winter and thank goodness we did because we had some pretty big snowfalls this year. I used my Sears card for no financing, used $60 in shop-your-way-surprise-points and then earned $50 back in points. With those points I was able to get 4 new bathroom towels and a nice set of kitchen knives for no additional cost.

-A few of our local stores have had strawberries and blueberries for .99 per container. I've been grabbing an extra each time Then I got free bananas with a walmart offer on coupons.com about a month ago. Been combining these to make smoothie packets for the freezer.

-Doing easter baskets on a smaller scale this year with some freebies I've been picking up here and there. Famous amos cookie containers, swedish fish & sour patch kids from recent checkout 51 deals. A clean and clear mask and some free cover girl mascara for DD15 from some recent drug store deals. A jump rope from dollar tree for DS5. And I'll reuse their baskets from last year.

-Buying less processed foods and trying to cook from scratch a little more. We have really enjoyed making muffins each week and granola bars from scratch. Tried a pop-tart recipe but we didn't love it.

-Try to remember to use my shopkick when I'm at the store. Sometimes I just don't have the time but if I'm alone (no kids) I'll try to make a point of scanning a least a few items. Going to save up those points to redeem for gift cards closer to christmas.

-Made a plan or rather decided how to allocate the money from all my "rebate apps". I'm bad about cashing out regularly. So I've earmarked each app for a certain use and I'll cash out at the end of the year.

-Probably the biggest of all is that I decided to try the cash envelope system this month.
All of our bills will still be paid out of our checking account but for everything else, I have an envelope:
Groceries, Gas, eating out, entertainment, Target and Miscellaneous.
A little info on having a "Target" envelope. I work in the pharmacy but they allowed us to keep our employee discount when we changed to CVS. However to use the discount, you have to pay with a redcard, cash or gift card. I'm tired of charging things on my redcard and am resistant to getting the debit card. So I decided a separate envelope was in need. I do purchase some grocery items there since we get an extra 20% on produce and simply balanced items but mostly shop there for cat food, litter and health and beauty products. I figure whatever is leftover in that envelope at the end of the month can go as extra principal payment on my redcard until it is paid off in the next 5 months or so.

HFeathers: For groceries I shop at Target sometimes, too.
Do you use the target app for the cartwheel offers?
Has helped me save a lot especially when combining with coupons and cash back apps.

Does anyone have any experience with making homemade flour tortilla shells? I've seen a few recipes online but they all vary on the fat that is used (I've seen lard, veg oil and butter). Which one is better? I'm tired of spending over $2 for a package of 10 of store bought ones....and the cheaper ones just break when you try folding them. Any advice would be much appreciated.
