We braved the crowds and went to CVS so DH could pick up prescription refills. OMG we got out of there as quickly as possible. At Food lion we just needed some salad and found a tremendous amount of marked down meat since they will be closed tomorrow. We got steaks, chicken breasts, thighs, ground beef and pork chops. My freezer is very full!

Merry Christmas everyone!

It was easy to be frugal this holiday as husband is still out of work and we shouldn't spend anything for extras..but of course, you know we did. My husband and I both sew and I have quite a fabric stash...we normally get new Christmas pjs for everyone on christmas eve...we had 3 extra visitors at our house. The pjs I ordered from Target and Penneys with coupon codes, ebates, free shipping...I think it was $147 for 7 pair of jammies..and then I bought one last pair for a Japanese student I didn't know for sure was staying with us. Then we hit the sewing room and turned out 4 full length zip up polarfleece robes for the girls, my husband sewed up a dozen fleece neck gaitors (doubles as hats)...and a dozen or more rice bags (tubes sewn from flannel, filled with cheap dry rice and sewn up...pop into microwave for 4-5 minutes and it retains heat for putting in beds, behind backs when sore, cold or creaky, etc).

I got a nice note from my Secret Pal...a ten year old that was the recipient of my half price shopping, freebies from drug stores, judicious choosing at second hand shops, free books (american girl series) from paperbackswap, used books/dvds cheap from amazon, etc. the mom is a single mom and works 6-7 days a week...I'd spent the last half of the year randomly dropping things in the mail, or having things mailed so she received fun kits, books, beauty products, recipes with the ingredients a couple of times a month.

Her mom said it drives her nuts wondering who the person is, wants to thank the person directly and prays for me and my family..how cool is that...guess, I better stick with my nose to the ground sales to keep this up...I've never met her so she will never guess..

Today, we had to drive to Charlotte to take my mom to the airport.

After dropping her off we had breakfast at Cracker Barrel - found their Christmas stuff at 70% off. I got a pretty red candle holder, a sock monkey ornament, a mercury glass votive holder and a little plate. All but the mercury glass is for one of my gift exchanges for next year.

We stopped at Target and picked up a few clearance items like gift tags, tape ( I only buy it once a year!), Mrs. Fields small candy tins (for my kids Valentine's), bath poufs, Game set (dominos and cards in a wooden box), one ornament ( I swear every year I'm not going to buy any more!), a nice pair of scissors and a bottle of method dish soap ( a holiday bottle for only $1.74).

I was really looking for a small Christmas tree so we stopped at Wal-Mart and I had no luck but got some scented tea lights and votives.

My last stop was CVS to get some more marked down make up and shampoo.

Eating leftovers and planning on not doing any more shopping til January - we will see how this goes!

The frugal achievement of the day was going to work and NOT hitting the stores, LOL!

I did run in to Macy's and JCP on my way to work to collect shop kick points, but that was it.

We had a nice quiet Christmas yesterday, and the
kids were happy to stay home with my parents and play with their new stuff today. We have plenty of leftovers for dinner too.

I did receive a couple of Target GCs, which I will use towards groceries this month to take the pressure off the budget and recover from holiday spending.

Stopped at Safeway to see if any of their holiday roasts had been marked down ... no luck on that count.

Checked the current price on the NY roasts that I picked up last week while on sale for $4.99 lb - wow - price for that same cut of roasts yesterday was $17.98 lb! A nice shot of frugality validation for me - planning ahead makes for big savings. Some nice cuts in the freezer for future meals.

Frugal achievements of the week...

Bought upcoming Christmas and birthday presents for 20 people during the after Christmas sales. Spent $161 OOP and saved $250 compared to if I bought it right before their birthday/Christmas.

Haggled with new landlord and got him to waive the rent for the next year with all the repairs hubby and I agreed to take on in return for splitting repair costs with him and doing the work ourselves. The last tenants overstayed their welcome then completely trashed the place before they left (GRRR....) so a bit of work ahead of us but worth it!!!!

Was given a washing machine for Christmas so that saved us about $350 we expected to pay OOP.

Had a family member who is getting a new bed and is giving us their few year old king one as hubby and I have been debating upgrading bed sizes.

Found the exact patten wallpaper to craft with I wanted for $2.50 for 100 feet in an after Christmas sale!

Little Debbie Christmas tree cakes marked down- I love those things
Christmas candy- marked down - sick family members gift- will see them in a couple days

Smithfield spiral hams- .88 a lb- I did get more than one- I couldn't believe the price- Considering the day before 2.99 a lb

Got marked down shampoos and such at Kroger yesterday

Pretty good trip.

wow, 88lb is good for the prices out there now...pretty sick of ham now but I'd still buy and put away...

I've been staying out of stores (mostly) so I won't be tempted...a deal isn't a deal when husband is out of work and not sure if we'll have to move or ??? next year...

we did have hot date last night and met at taco bell (son drove him in and I came from work)...split a cheap meal and then I had him take me to a different Michaels to see if they had penny deals and to scope out how they are set up..no good finds.

tonight we ate stuff we had in the freezer, walked the dogs, took down some Christmas, cleaned the house for a bit..now watching a dvd we had but hadn't watched..and snacking on hard gingerbread leftover from gingerbread house making..dunking in tea (one pot made with one bag and shared)...

knitting up some dish clothes with cotton yarn I already have..finished one that was started forever ago and starting a second..looks like I can make a misfit one with the odds and ends leftover from all the others...

see we have a missed call from one of the companies my husband applied for..not sure if that's good or bad...not sure if it's a yes you have th job or no, we picked someone else..I'm not so good at being patient

I returned two heated throws that we received for Christmas that didn't heat. I was shocked to receive $50 back at Kmart. DS and I spent some time looking at clearance items, and found lots of kitchen items, picture frames and a few toy items. I also found five t-shirts for $1.99 each for me (I know!). I'm always stocking up for DS, so that's a big deal for me.
We ended up with five 3 packs of "bar mop" cloths, place mats and a table runner, silicone pot holders, two Air Hogs links (to use my iPhone and his iPad as controllers instead of the battery sucking controllers!). Some other things that I can't recall at the moment. We still had money left.
The kitchen and toys clearance is an extra 50% off. Decent trip, and we actually had fun shopping together.
ETA: I forget my best deals. Double pack of roasting pans with racks for $8.70 and a sofa cover for $12.xx.

I told DH we should've stopped at Michael's! UGH! I might swing by there today. I have to take some items back to Kohl's so it's close by. I am planning on going by CVS to see what clearance they have too.

Yesterday we went by Publix for a couple things I had coupons for that were expiring soon. Their clearance was really picked over so all I was able to get was (4) small containers of the candied cherries.

Working on cleaning a bit at a time - all that bedding to wash! OMG. I have put a few decorations away too.

Had a dental appointment today at 8A, but as soon as I was finished, I stopped by Kohl's to spend my husband's $10 birthday gift card from them. (It came in the mail and was good for December 1-31.) Found two beautiful table cloths--one forest green size 60 x 120 and one cranberry size 60 x 102--marked 75% off! After coupon, I paid $2.12--YEEHAW, y'all! I am so THRILLED with my great deal!

Tomorrow, I am getting my hair cut/color FREE, courtesy of a gift card from my daughter and her family!

Just thankful for the wonderful holidays we've enjoyed and looking forward to the new year! God is GOOD, y'all!

Was able to do even exchanges on my returns at Kohl's yesterday. The bras I bought on black Friday for $14.99 were now on sale for $24.99 - wow what a savings! I really didn't want to get a refund and miss out on such good pricing!

Michael's was all out of little trees but I did find a wreath at 80% off which I needed to - My other one is falling apart.

My CVS was not 75% off but I still picked up (3) Renuzit holiday scents for 50% off.

Back at work today for year-end close out. Brought my own lunch and snacks.

Did a CVS swing by on my lunch break - this store was 75% off. Got a 8 ct. giftbag assortment for $1.49, 200 ct. hooks $.37, (4)velvet makeup bags with crystal lips on them (so cute) $1.25, (2) Wet N Wild polish sets $1.25, a spa robe $4.99, an owl compact $.49, (2) theater box M&M's $.42 and a bottle of CVS Color shampoo (like Pantene) for $.82.

I did grab lunch out at McDonald's though but we are staying in tonight and making dinner at home.

Went out a bit with hubby yesterday. We stopped by kroger found bunch of Mark downs. Cereal, ice cream, organic foods, and Oscar Mayer fully cooked bacon. I did stock up on bacon, cereal, and even ice cream bars. Saved 144.35 spent 37.68. I did use 30.00 gift card that was given to me from where I work to get to 37.68 total.

We went over to goodwill and thrift stores. I found hubby nice pair of Carhart pants for work. They were only 2.99. Looked like new but missing a button. Easy fix so I grabbed them.

We did eat at home so we ate for under 6.00 instead of grabbing dinner out 30.00.

Went to Target last night to stroll holiday clearance--bought:

1. Sassy baby 20 piece teething toy set 1/2 price for $14.98 from $29.99 (will give to new niece!)

2. Jingle and Bell hallmark plush, book and CD sets (these are interactive with the Jingle and Bell apps too) originally $34 for $10 each.

3. Four rolls of 70% off Christmas wrapping paper (75c and 90c per roll).

Used a Christmas GC so no OOP.

Among my goals for 2014 is to get back on the drugstore deals wagon (I fell off sometime around July when I started using the $5/week that I usually use to roll HBA deals at CVS to buy back to school deals at Office Max, then with the leak/move to a new place in October I never managed to get back on track). My HBA stockpile is getting very low (especially fem. items for DD and I), so I really need to get back in the game LOL!

Along with that, I have just been clipping/organizing as I go, one trip at a time, instead of keeping an organized file--still using Qs for my large weekly grocery shop on Weds. For doubles day, but which keeps me from being able to take part in small trips on the fly. So my plan is to start keeping up with inserts, by clipping on Sunday evenings after the kids are in bed.

Got a GREAT deal at Kohl's today! I had a $35 reward coupon, plus 20% off coupon. I had looked earlier at Kohl's for dress shoes, but was unwilling to pay $60 for the ones I wanted. With coupons in hand, I looked at same shoes and they were marked down to $44. Ended up paying $8 after using coupons! Yippee-skippy, y'all; I am going to wear my less-than-$10 shoes to church tomorrow AM!

My son is home.
But he needed a haircut $6.99 at Great Clips with coupon
Dr follow up $12 (They asked if my deductible rolled..no thank goodness that happens in Oct)
Meds at CVS $5
Propane ran out. I was trying to wait till my house sells (its under contract...but no) + $125 leak charge since it was on 0%. I feel like I just can't win. They told me you should have enough till March. WRONG!! I have never had propane and did not even know how to check my tank. So frustrated. I really need to just fill it but that would cost $1500. Did do some after Christmas here and there spent $100 but got a ton...mostly for next Christmas.
