Help Sign Need some tips for Vacation

We are taking a 10 drive to Wiliston, ND for my brother's wedding July 17. We plan to camp just outside of Williston, ND. What I'm looking for is tips on how to keep our 2 year old daughter entertained in the car for a 10 hour car ride. And also if anybody knows of cheap (inexpensive)/Free places to visit or entertainment near Williston, ND. And also ideas for what to bring for a week's worth of tent camping (we will be camping the 10-16). We usually have a camper but it does not look like we will for this trip. So I need to know what kind of food works best for all meals to bring with, games to entertain our 2 year old and any helpful tips would be much appreciated. Thanks

Allison

For long trips, we always took little toys or snacks and wrapped them like presents and when the kids would get bored, I would pull one from hiding and let them open them. We would get dollar spot stuff from Target and a few things that they had been wanting( just little stuff) and that would occupy them for a while. Have fun!

I'll bet she'll sleep alot. Maybe go to Target and see if she has any interest in a magna doodle. This was great for restaurants or maybe a small chalk board.

Do the bulk of your driving during early am hours (2 or 3 am) while she is asleep. I have travelled from Alabama to CA with 6 kids in a mini van with no dvd player and I had a 2 yr old. I stopped often and I travelled the majority of the time while they were asleep. I packed lots of snacks and we stopped at rest stops that had picnic tables for lunch and then I purchased dinner. I had a great time and God truly blessed the drive.

My little sister (now almost 5) used to spend hours watching her portable DVD player in the car/airplane when she was around 2 years old (she still does). Try to find cheap portable dvd players and cheap (or free) dvds of her favorite characters (i might have some to donate if you want). Also, does she like coloring? buy the crayola color wonder stuff, which only paints its own paper (so no mess). Does she like to look at books with lots of figures? get a bunch at a local library (or for free on any giveaway website) and have her "read" them. electronic games are also recommended, but those are often expensive. if you don't have the dvd player, a laptop could do the job (although it would require battery changes more often). Good luck!

My mom and my sister also wraps small toys for my little brother when we go on trips, he loves them! As for food i would suggest food to cook over a campfire, hot dogs, and marshmallows are always good and chips to go with the meal. and anything that is canned and you can just open it and cook it over the fire as well.
