Dance EASY way to grate soap for homemade laundry soap!

I've made several batches of laundry soap(dry) so far and have not looked forward to grating the bar soap. I got an idea and pulled out the old Salad Shooter from years past. Used the grater, it works wonderful, and so fast!! The bar just shot right through it, never had push. Done in seconds! No more sore fingers and messy counters!! I only had to use a butcher knife to cut the bar in half lengthwise so it would fit through the hopper. I then used the food processor to make it even finer. Just rinse well with hot water, it's soap after all.

One thing I've found that helps too is letting the bars of soap age well/dry before you grate them. I use Zote that I pick up at little Hispanic stores, where it has a lot faster shelf turn over. First time I bought soap there, it was so soft I couldn't hardly grate it-. Now my routine is when I mix up a big batch, I go out and buy more bars of Zote & open the wrappers so it will get a chance to dry out when I need it again in 6-9 months.

BTW- Zote is usually cheaper at Hispanic stores and they usually carry both the normal pink Zote and white bars for more sensitive skin, which is what I use.

I use my blender. I do pre cut the bars down a bit but I don't have a food processor so it works well enough for us

Oh, I loved salad shooters back in the day. I used 3 of them to death - they were great...er...grate!

Thanks for the memory.

I use an old kids snow cone machine. The girls feel like they're helping by cranking on the old sno cone maker. Grates very quickly too.
