Lettuce can't be frozen!! It would be a nasty, mushy mess!! What you can do is take it out of the bags and Vacu Pak it with a Seal A Meal or that new Reynolds Vacuum Sealer thingy. I have done that and salad lasts quite a bit longer........hth!!

Give it away. There is no way to freeze lettuce and then it looks like mush when unthawed.

| It would be so nasty when you thawed it out, you would have to just throw it away.

Don't freeze it. My fridge has a cold spot and I have to be careful not to put my salad near it or I get nasty slimy lettuce. Yuck.

If its already past the point of sharing..you can feed it to the animals outdoors. Just put it far away enough from your house so that they can enjoy it in peace and so you not inviting any unwanted guests. Just snip the bags and dump...don't touch with your hands as they may not come near it if you do.

Tupperware makes a line that is just for this reason! Fridgesmart containers are designed to make your fresh fruits and veggies last longer! They have 2 air vents on the front. There's a grid on the side to tell you which foods need which air vent. Some low, some high. I've actually bought a bagged lettuce, came home, opened bag, put in container and put it in fridge. It was a test, I told my family not to open it or eat it. 21 TWENTY ONE days until it started to turn brown! I was amazed and sold. This is probably my favorite line (tie between this and Rock n serve micro line) and live by it. I tell this story at just about every party/fair I do. I"m offering a 10% discount to anyone from AFC who places an order. YOU must email me with yor order for your discount RBARB Welcome Page Robyn

I know that we do not see this in the US very often but the French serve lettuce as a hot vegetable. here is one recipe: spicy sautéed lettuce 1 tbsp olive oil 1 lettuce head, leaves shredded 1 garlic clove, peeled and finely chopped pinch dried chilli flakes For the spicy sautéed lettuce, heat the olive oil, add the lettuce and sauté for 2-3 minutes, add the garlic and chilli flakes and cook for a further minute. I have also seen it doen with onions, garlic, and tarragon. I do not thrwo ANYTHING out!! |
