Lunch meat actually freezes quite well. And, yes, you can leave it in the package. We always stock up when it's on sale and have it for 1-2 months.

If it's the kind that comes in the cardboard boxes I usually take it out of those. I wrap them in foil and then put them in freezer ziplocs that I re-use all the time. I especially love doing this when I find it marked down too.

I just throw the entire container in the freezer - usually, they are vacuum sealed and extra wrapping isn't necessary. Bologna, chicken breast, ham - it all freezes well.

I wouldn't recommend freezing the kind you buy in the deli and they put in those little plastic envelopes unless you rewrap and vacuum seal it yourself.

yep, I've kept at least 6 months..occasionally with freezing some of the liquid comes out of the meat..so I drain off when I open...and then it's fine..and remember to rotate...most have the dates printed right in front so you about when you put in...but I watch for the mark down close dated lunch meat and then double up with coupons..just put in 30 or so packs in at a quarter a piece..

and you can also use chopped up for things..like pizza, soups, casseroles, chef's salads, etc...easy way to keep a variety of cooked meats at the ready...

I do all the time when I find deli meat on sale for Dh's lunch. I will freeze it 1/2 lb (ish) ziploc bags with the date and type on it. Then when we start getting low on what is in the fridge I pull out a ziploc bag. Saves us so much money anymore!

Yippee!! DH loves sandwiches made with lunch meats but he goes through phases in which he will eat them and then he won't.. I've had too many go bad when he goes off them.. glad to know I can freeze them for when he decides he wants them again!

The lower the salt content, the better it freezes. Ham gets a weird texture and watery thing going on because of the salt. Doesn't stop me from freezing it, but you may like the lower salt meats better from the freezer.

The best money saver I found though was just buying boneless meats of various types, roasting it, putting the leftover in the freezer for an hour to firm up, and slicing it super thin. Deli meat around here is anywhere from $4-8/lb. Boneless skinless chicken breasts are $1-2/lb depending on sale prices and I can roast up what I need on Sunday and slice it for the week.

A porkloin at <$2/lb is perfect for lunch meats. Even a tenderloin at $5 a pound is a splurge for dinner, but cheap for lunch meat. I have no clue why that is. I think the deli counter is a scam though.

As a bonus, if you roast it yourself it won't have all the additives.

I do this too! I roast chicken and turkey breasts, and ham, have some for supper that night, and bag up the rest for the freezer for our lunches, or quick meal additions. It's so good, and it saves a lot of money in the end, especially if you get the meat on a good sale!

Yep you can freeze it. I do it constantly. Whenever I find it on sale or marked down I check the date and throw it in the freezer. I try to keep at least a 3-4 month supply if i can.
when you need it, just pull it out and I put it in the sink or in the fridge

Fyi

If you freeze deli meat, have the deli counter rep put wax or plastic paper between each slice. That way when you freeze the deli meat (usually good for up to 2 to 3 months) the meat is easy to separate.

I also take the deli meat that is placed in a deli ziploc bag and put the pre-wrapped deli meat in another freezer ziploc bag when I get home. Label the contents of the bag and when you purchased the deli meat. Then freeze the deli meat. By double wrapping and freezing it this way, the deli meat will last and taste better.

Enjoy!

Foodie

Freeze it whenever I find it on sale. Take mine out of the tub and put it in a qt feeezer bag just to save space since my freezer is usually packed. I've had it in the freezer for 3 or 4 months and it's still good when we use it.

We freeze lunch meet all the time, never from the deli unless it's in freezer ziploc from home. My kids have never known the difference, they think lunch meat is supposed to come from the freezer to the fridge to thaw! LOL
