I open the package, "form" the crescent roll, place them on a cookie sheet (raw) in the freezer, then once they are frozen I pop them off and throw them in a freezer bag, uncooked. That way, since it is just my husband and me, I can just pull 2-4 out of the baggie at a time and cook them. I do the same with the cinnamon rolls. Just pull them apart, place them on the cookie sheet, then bag them once they have frozen. I wouldn't freeze the entire log of rolls because it would be nearly impossible to separate them once they were all frozen together.

:squee:

That is exactly how I do it. I usually very lightly spray the cookie sheet with the tiniest amount of spray to help them not freeze hard to the metal - but just as Mrs MLT said - open the can, roll the raw dough like you were going to bake them - but freeze them instead.

I also do this with raw bacon. I make little rolls with leftover raw bacon, stand them on end, freeze them quickly, then pop them off the cookie sheet and into a bag. I then have access to just a few strips of bacon whenever I need some - and I don't have to open a whole package just to give my son a few strips of bacon on the weekends!

I only have 3 people in my family, and a whole can of rolls, or a whole package of bacon, is simply too much. I don't need to cook up the entire thing.

Freezing them this way does take up a little more space in my freezer, but to be honest I do not waste food nor cook more than the three of us need ( but Mr Mav would dispute that. He would claim to "need" a whole pound of bacon... )

I freeze bacon as well, but I do it just like I do my crescents. I lay out the pieces individually on a cookie sheet, freeze them then bag them.

Then, I BAKE my bacon. Yes, I said bake. I place a cooling rack inside a cookie sheet, lay bacon on cooling rack, bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Bacon is crispy, much less mess, and it is nice and flat if I want to put it on sandwiches, too!

Great idea! I'm gonna try this the next time I get a lot of bacon on sale.

I freeze these and biscuits as well and have never had a problem with them bursting open at any time.
They defrost just fine in the fridge. I did make the mistake and leave them out in the sink to defrost, and as soon as they hit room temp they burst open. But I just put them back in the fridge and they will fine.
But there is not to much that I don't freeze.

Thanks for some great ideas. I think the baking and freezing should work fine, though I have never tried it. I do know that if you bake homemade biscuits, and then freeze them they taste like just made after a few minutes in the oven. No more trashed biscuits in my house. BTW cornbread works well also.

Ok has anyone made pigs in a blanket but put them in the freezer instead of cooking them, then putting them in a ziplock? My kids love these but only a few at a time.

"Contents under pressure".....is the only thing I would worry about. I haven't tried it because any extreme (hot or cold) temp change spells disaster. Heard a true, funny story. Older lady was waiting in the car while her daughter ran back into the store. She heard a "pop"...not to be confused with a bang....and thought she got "SHOT" because she felt something on the back of her neck. Ambulance showed up 'cause she wouldn't move and everything you'd expect from a 911 situation. Only to find out that the rolls exploded and "SHOT" her................hilarious!

Just a little Physics FYI: Only water expands when it is frozen! So any other solid object, such as Pillsbury biscuits, will shrink when frozen. I don't think there are any other liquids that aren't water you would freeze, so just think of it as liquids will expand (since they are mostly water) and solids will shrink (since they are mostly not water).
And it works conversely when heating things up, so those rolls of biscuits will explode if you heat them up. Don't think of this in terms of liquids vs solids for heating though, when the liquids start to evaporate, they take up more room than when liquid.
Why does water expand when it freezes?

Okay, Physicist here...you have forgotten a few things that contribute to this equation. Anything food related is not simple fluid dynamics. You have sodium bicarbonate, gases under pressure, gluten and other chemicals (oils and hydrogenated oils) added to the biscuits that are NOT water. While I totally appreciate your thoughts, I don't think the biscuits will contract while freezing unless you have a special subzero flash freezer. Just taking them out of the package will allow them to expand.

I would still recommend taking the biscuits out of the container, freeze them on a cookie sheet, once frozen, place them all in a zipper bag for the long haul in the freezer.

I froze a bunch of these in the cans. I am guessing it was probably Feb. or Mar.
They did fine at the time. But the ones I have opened recently have all been shrunk up and did not rise. Basically had to throw them out. Does anyone know why this would happen???? Originally they did fine. Did I leave them in the freezer too long or what?
