AOL/AIM is offering a free phone service to anyone with an aol/aim screen name using the latest version of AIM Trinton. (If you don't have one, don't worry. You can create one & download trinton for free.) The free service allows for you to have an internet phone number that can recieve unlimited incoming calls & all calls not answered will go to your voicemail, which is also sent to your aim email.

Personally, I signed up for this a couple of days ago. I was capable of getting a number & it was accessible almost instantly. The incoming calls are clear & crisp; and retrieving voicemail is easy. Since I registered for the free version, I cannot make outgoing calls or customize my voicemail message. But overall, it's really worth the privacy it offers.

It is, of course, an internet phoneline. So, you can only answer your calls when you are online & using aim trinton. But don't worry. Your voicemail works even when you're not online. You just have to be online to retrieve them.

Some areas don't have available numbers, but you can always have them notify you when a number for that area is available or keep trying other areas.
