I wanted to help my daughters 4th grade teacher out by making up a Pirate Bounty Treasure goodie Box , I would donate some small items to be used as a "reward" for good behavior but I am at a loss of some really cool items that 4th graders would love to pick out.
Yesterday I was out about checking sweet sales and thrift stores. I found two coats for myself for 5.00 at Value Village. I was walking back to the bus stop pretty happy about what I bought when I saw a young woman struggle to carry a old stained glass window and about 5 bags. I called out to her to wait for me. And she did. ( She was glad to stop for a moment) I caught up to her and told her I would be more than happy to help by putting all of her bags in my little shopping cart I have. She was just stunned I stop to help her. So I put all her bags in my cart and balance the window on top and proceeded to walk her to her apartment. She lived about 5 blocks from the bus stop. No big deal. She stated to me she was shocked at my actions. Most people turn away from others in need. I explain to her that you don't live in the world alone. And by not stepping up and doing what needs to be done, hurts yourself and many others. She had tears in her eyes. She offered to pay me for my time, and I refused. I told her acts of kindness are free and fullfilling to all. We parted company and I walked back to the bus stop to go home. Right at the bus stop was a brand new quarter on the ground. So I picked it up and put it in my pocket and went on home.
This morning when I woke up and had the strong feeling inside to go to the Safeway and use my bogo peelie for Glade candle. I had a 1.00 off Q for the one I had to buy..The cashier rang up the candles, took off the 1.00 first, then she look at the free Q and said hey this is good for up 3.99. She punched in 3.99 for me. The candles were on sale for 2/5.00, now because of the coupons the cost is down to .01. I reached into my pocket and there is that quarter I found on the sidewalk. I hear a voice next to me saying hey lady I would like to pay that penny for you. I never seen anyone do that before with coupons. I thank both the man and the cashier, turn and started walking home holding my two free candles. It pays to be a light in this world. Just wanted to share.

I didn't know where to post this, but here looks good.....
My family and I are trying to plan a trip to NC soon, but we aren't very familiar with what there is to do there and where we should stay.
This is going to be our first "family" trip. Our kids are old enough to enjoy it now, (DD is 14 and DS is 12). I really want to make the most of our trip.
We are from SC, so we know a little, but I figured all of you from NC would have some ideas and money saving tips. We would like to stay in a cabin instead of a hotel/motel/inn. Do any of you have suggestions????

I am thankful to my awesome husband who works almost 70 hrs a week so I don't have to work (which i have been working a few hrs a week at his store to help him out lately but I still am a SAHM!) I thankful for wonderful healthy girls! My new puppy even though he is crazy! Coupons! I am thankful for my family here on AFC! With the help on here I have saved so much money and now can help out others! I am thankful for the roof i have over my head and the clothes on my back! Really though it still all about my family and as long as I have them... I have everything I need!

I've been browsing all the black friday ads that have been posted on various sites and have been talking with the kids about what they might like for Christmas.

My boys are 12 and 7 and not into toys at all anymore. I'm afraid that after we buy them 1 or 2 presents from their wishlist (usually electronics) there won't not be any extra $$ left!

We usually spend $200 per kid and then get a big "family" present.

So how much do you spend on your children's Christmas presents?

The recent ones I've tried are the O'Cedar Big Easy mop. But twice, the sponge tore off the plastic. The other one was the O'Cedar Pro-Scrub Mop. It was a PITA to take the refill off just to remove the plastic and the sponge has come come out from it's binding, so even tho the sponge is in good condition, it's now useless.

I'm considering investing in a steam mop now.

I'm getting better at it, but it still makes my brain hurt sometimes. Trying to keep all the deals and rules straight between stores.

It seems like just when I get in the grove at FoodLion with the FLIP rules and mfg q's and work out how to get the most bang for my buck there, Harris Teeter will start a triple event...

Then I have to shift gears to remember all the rules surrounding the use of IP's and Mfg q's and how many of each and how many total per day etc. and just when I'm getting in the swing of that....

Kroger starts a Mega event. Then I start all over with the rules for Kroger..unlimited doubles, only up to .50, 10 of participating items etc. etc. etc.

Sometimes, like right now - the Harris Teeter triples are overlapping with the Kroger Mega's! Ugh!

That is why I haven't even ventured into the world of the Drugstore Diva's. I think my head would explode! :tongue2:
