As with many households, economy has changed things for our holiday. With only my income (now unemployment) we have talked with the kids about doing things together this holiday season, and each picking one gift they really would like. Our five year old daughter heard us gathering clothes for a family who moved in locally with no clothing (literally) for their children, and asked if we could just not do gifts at our house this year and buy a bed for one of those girls. so, i know they 'get' the true spirit of the holiday....
anyway..my request for help....can you help me locate the best prices on -

one of the boys would like the UNO Moo game he saw on tv...it was at Kmart for 19.99....I imagine it will be cheaper than that elsewhere ???

and our teenage daughter has asked for 2 years for Nike Shox. She is in a women's size 8, so these are over 100.00 at the local stores. Can I do better ?? Her school colors are orange/white, and she likes pink, so I'm sure either of those colors would do... and they don't have to be the newest style of shox, she just wants shox.

thanks for your help in locating these....

Stealing Newspapers from Racks?

Seems innocent enough, doesn’t it? You need some extra coupons….you know they are in the inserts sitting in that newspaper rack….what’s the harm in taking a few extra newspapers when you put in your quarters? Who will know the difference? The newspaper office will surely never miss a few papers. Or maybe you go at night and figure “Heck, they are not going to sell these papers anyway….so what’s the harm in taking them?” Try to justify your actions anyway that you can, but in the end it is all stealing. Not to mention punishable by law. And it is probably not stealing from who you think. Almost all newspapers these days are owned by big corporations somewhere and no one feels too much sympathy for these places….me included. So if you try to justify stealing because this big corporation can afford a few losses….we all know that any losses they incur will trickle right down to you and ME. We will all pay for it, one way or another. But, in most cities, when you take papers that you do not pay for, you are stealing from the carrier, not the corporation. This is some Joe or Joanna Blow who is just trying to make it, just like you. No one is getting rich delivering newspapers – whether it be to your driveway or to the racks. And remember, when you complain you don’t get enough vacation time…these guys deliver 7 days a week – 365 days a year! Most newspapers make the carriers “pay” for these papers. He (or she) has to bring back the returns to get “credit” proving he did not sell them. If he cannot produce these papers, then he is penalized…even though he did not collect the money in the rack to pay for them.
I don’t think that many people would intentionally steal from the paper carriers….that is why I bring this up. This is not some high and mighty CEO “somewhere” living in luxury with hefty bonuses…this is the guy whose kids play baseball with your kids. All the carriers I know do not have fancy cars or fancy houses. They are people just like you and I except they are up all night making sure you have a newspaper when you roll out of a nice warm bed. If you have your newspaper delivered to your home, show your appreciation and be good to your carrier this holiday season. If you buy your paper at the rack….I hope you will remember this post next time you drop in those quarters.

I'm thinking about cloth diapering. I'm looking at somethings online and it seems like it's alot of work. I was curious about the gdiapers but they're just so expensive that we can't swing that. My boyfriend won't be 100% on board with cloth diapering but I'm going to compromise and tell him that we can cloth diaper when the new baby is at home and then use disposables when we go out. I'm thinking that will at least HELP with the cost and cut down on the environmental impact.

Does anyone have any tips regarding cloth diapering that could help? I heard about the wet and dry pail but I'm unsure what would be best? They also recommended swishing them around in the toilet before putting them in a pail? How often do you wash them? How do you wash them?

Any info would be great! I think I'm going to put some on my registry.
