Movie Looking for some good, family (teen)-friendly movies to rent

Kids ages 15 and 17, me and hubby - tired of the sex, violence, and language in most movies and out of the movie loop!

What are your favorite movies that you can watch with your teens comfortably?

My sister is working her way through having her kids 9 & 12 view movies we watched grwoing up, Indiana Jones, Big, Footloose, Grease & Grease 2 to name a few. I love any movie with Kate Hudson in it, Serendipidy, Pretty Woman, 27 Dresses, Hairspray, most Julia Roberts movies are suitable as well.

No, haven't seen that one - thanks!

The older movies we grew up on is a great idea too!

I wish I could find DVDs of the old Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys tv shows. I loved those. They probably didn't hold up with age, though.

Great Movie Rental!

Have you seen Dan in Real Life? We loved that movie. It was romantic, funny and light hearted. The kids in the movie are hilarious. We saw in on preview night and then rented it when it came out on video. GREAT movie in my opinion. You'll be laughing ... it's funny!!

Some movies that my 8th grade students liked:
Aquamarine
Annie (I know-- who would have thought? And it was the boys who really liked it.)
Top Gun (everyone liked this one and most of them hadn't seen it before!!)

If you haven't read the book series, I highly recommend them, they are even better than the movies! Although after the first movie, they didn't stick too closely to the books.

The older movies we grew up on is a great idea too!

I wish I could find DVDs of the old Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys tv shows. I loved those. They probably didn't hold up with age, though.
Amazon has season 1 for $31.99 & Season 2 for $32.99 with free shipping.

I know you mentioned it already - but Facing the Giants is a great movie.

I haven't seen it yet - but I think The Ultimate Gift is also suppose to be good (and decent).

I LOVED Finding Forrester. It was just an awesome feel good movie. I cannot imagine your kids not loving this movie.

I love "Best In SHow" - one of my favorites. I love most of the stuff Christopher guest does. Best in Show is just my FAVORITE!!! It is very quirky and funny. Along the same style is Drop Dead Gorgeous...now there is a crazy beauty queen killing people, but that is not SHOWN...and it is a comedy so the killing people is really bizarre...if I could compare the violence it would be like Monk...you know people have died...but the rest of it is so lighthearted it is not a downer. The bad people get caught and the good girl wins in the end.

I like Dan In Real Life and Evan Almighty that femail mentioned. There might be some sexual things in Dan in Real Life (I think they get caught nekkid in the shower).

If you dont already have it, the TV guardian is great for taking out language, I realize sex is most of the problem though. We have purchased some edited versions of movies that our kids really wanted to see from Family Focus Films. We are extremely careful with what we rent as far as sexual content and language. Here are some of ours ~
College Road Trip(surprisingly cute)
The Babysitters Club(also cute if you can find)
Pirates of Car.
Christmas Shoes(great Holiday flick)
Charlottes Web(newer)
Spiderwick
Narnia (violence, great overall message)
Lord of the Rings(violence)
Enchanted
Nanny McFee
A series of unfortunate events
Jumanji
Sky High(cheesy, but good enough to rent)
Bought the Christy series that aired in the late 90's. We were all sad when we got to last disc!
Independance Day
Men in Black
War of Worlds(violence in all of these)
Also, check your library. Ours has alot of great movies for free...Cant beat that!
