Johanna's Fruit Salad

My mother used to make this, it was always a huge hit, I never could make it like she did, but my daughter makes it even better than mom did

2 bricks cream cheese
2 tubs Cool Whip (any white variety)
1/2 cup sugar (or substitute for diabetics)
2 cans fruit cocktail in heavy or lite syrup (we use the very cherry kind)
bananas and mini marshmallows if desired

Put sugar and cream cheese in mixing bowl and mix until creamed together. Turn off mixer and fold in one tub of Cool Whip and then fold in second tub. Do not over mix or it will get watery and flat looking. Add in WELL DRAINED fruit cocktail...needs to be completely drained or the salad will be soupy. Then add marshmallows, bananas or raisins or whatever else you want (be creative). Refrigerate for atleast 1/2 hour before eating.

Mmmmmm...the walnuts sound like a good addition, will make the texture a little crunchy.
BTW...this makes a huge bowl, you may want to cut the recipe inhalf..we are a huge family, so my recipes always yield a large amount.

K.M., I am digging you. I had about 20 packs of the cherry dole that I got free with coups, and my boyfriend is *****ing he is sick of it. Now I am sure if I enrobe it in Cool Whip and creme cheese he will change his tune. Thanks alot.

Your salad sounds very much like the 7-cup salad I used to make. Can't remember all the ingredients but it was always a real winner. Seems like it had.....

1 cup each
cream cheese
whipped topping
pecans
coconut
dates
mandarin oranges-drained
fruit cocktail-drained
