| Kohl's Return Question
I bought several things at Kohl's tonight, and when I got to checkout, I used a $10 off $50 q, and then handed the cashier a 15% off q. I got both in the mail. She handed back the 15% off q because it wasn't good until Aug. 5th. I had no idea, I didn't read the date on it before going to the store tonight (it was a long day). My DH however got an email q for 15% off that IS good right now. Can I return everything I bought tonight at customer service, then have them re-ring it at all and use the 15% off q? Unfortunately, the $10 off $50 q was a 1 time use q. So, I imagine if they re-ring everything, I won't get to have that discount again? So, maybe it wouldn't really be worthwhile to re-ring everything? Also, DH wanted me to put it all on a different credit card, can they do that too? I got $20 back in Kohl's cash (was just $7 off from getting $30 back- bummer). How does returning/re-ringing everything work with kohl's cash?

Kohls customer service is generally great. You lose your Kohls cash when you return if you haven't already used it (if you have, they discount the return) I don't know what the best way to do this, but if they choose to return and rebuy, you won't loose the $10/$50. They will give you a gift card for the $10, then the rest back to your credit card. They will probably either take the $20 Kohls cash or take the amount off your return. Then you rebuy with the correct card, use the 15% coupon and the $10 gift card to pay. You can then add in enough to get above the $150 to get $30 Kohls cash (but remember you will need to buy more than $7, since you are now getting 15% off) So if you want to use a 15% coupon, you need to spend $177 to be at $150. The sales are unlikely to have changed, but you can ask for price adjustments if they have. The other scenario they may do is just credit your card for 15% of your purchase price, and you won't get to change credit cards. |

Thanks so much, pharmjenn. I am not sure what I want to do yet, seems like such a hassle to re-ring everything, but that was a big discount I lost out on... I wasn't thinking last night and I already took 1 thing out of the package (a ring I bought). I'm usually more on the ball than this, still kicking myself for not bringing the correct 15% q.

If you didn't want to switch cards you purchased on and only wanted a price adjustment for the 15% off then all you would need is your receipt and the coupon and customer service can do a post sale adjustment. If you did return everything, you will just get a mdse credit for the coupon you had. And lose the kohl's cash (when repurchasing you'd get it back) If a customer wants to return and repurchase my store generally will do the return at customer service and have the customer take the product up to the front to repurchase at the regular registers. The last day for giving out Kohl's cash this round is 7/31, so if you are returning and repurchasing you probably want to do it by tomorrow in order to receive your Kohl's cash back.

If you use a Kohl's cash or a Kohl's IP, you will NOT lose its value. It will be given back to you as merchandise credit while the rest of your payment will go back the same way you paid it either CC/DC/cash. What you lose is the %off discount. Let's say item is $11.50, used 20% discount and $10 KC, that will be 11.50 - 10 = 1.50 less .30 (20% after KC, not full price) =1.20 plus tax on this amount. WHen you return this item, you get back 1.20 plus tax whatever mode of payment you used, and the $10 KC in merchandise credit. If you used a Kohl's card, you don't even need the receipt, they can look that up for you.

Also, they don't really advertise this but you can do look ups using any card not just Kohl's charge. (to do the look up with out a receipt on the card you need the merchandise though) I like your break down on how returns work when paying with a Kohl's cash. I think there is always a big misunderstanding when using Kohl's cash combined with % off when paying. When most customers calculate they usually do the % off before the dollar. |

I would just bring your receipt to Customer Service with the 15% and say you want the adjustment. They will usually do it to avoid re ringing, but yes you will lose some value on your Kohl's Cash.

![]() I did a return once for clothes that didn't fit and my entire Kohl's cash of $10 was put on merchandise credit and the rest of my payment was given in the form I paid, which was cash. The CSR was great in letting me know how she is processing my return/refund. I wanted it all put on a merchandise credit so I don't have to handle the cash part but she has already pressed the button so I had to take my cash back. Anyway, the only thing I "lost" was my 15% discount which I stacked with the KC. The discount lost wasn't much anyway, because it was applied after scanning my KC, not on the full price. I did NOT lose any part of my Kohl's cash which is what I expected since I earned it from a previous purchase. this is my experience and I stand by it.

okay fine by me. My sister works for Kohl's and usually this is not how it works. If it was, you know how many people would be going to Kohl's, buying merchandise just to return it all later and getting a free gift-card in the amount of the Kohl's Cash, without paying anything for it? That's why it's one or the other. Kohl's Cash is a "perk" for shopping there, and i'm sure there are far too many people who abuse that "perk". They are the only place I shop, and only during Kohl's Cash periods. Also, it could have just been a fluke in your case, since you said she pressed the wrong button to give you cash back. Maybe she just figured it was easier that way then to start all over?

I am an employee of kohls and actually you both are correct. If you are doing a return on a product that you earned kohls cash on (after the redemtion period) if you put your return on a credit you get the full amount, if you put it on the tender that you paid your Kohls cash is deducted from that amount. If the product was purchased using a kohls cash then you will get a merchandise credit for the amount of the kohls cash and the rest will be put towards the tender you paid. Hope that clarifies it a little better. Pretty much one is if you earned it and made a return and the other is if you purchased a product using a kohls cash. I'm telling you, kohls may have a hassle free return but it definately is a confusing process! |

Thanks haunting, joshmamabear and I were probably referring to different situations, but I was referring to your first scenario.

Wow thanks for all the input everyone, it can be confusing, that's for sure. I don't normally return many things from Kohl's. Well, I DID go back and explain that I wanted to use the 15% off q that my DH had, and they just gave me cash back for the amount that should have been discounted ($21.45)! Woo hoo! Glad I did go back, because that is a pretty significant discount, and you are right I didn't need to bring my bag of purchases, even though I did. It was very easy, and I thanked her a million times for making it so easy. I decided not to switch what card I purchased everything on (DH and I agreed the card I used was fine). So, I just got my discount and I'm a happy woman now. Even happier, because DH bought a nice suit and I found some nice clothes for 2 of my kiddos to wear next summer- they were 70% off. My subtotal for that purchase came to $200 and so between my trip yesterday and my trip today, I now have $60 in Kohl's cash! I got some nice new clothes for myself, jewelry, suit for DH, a few outfits for the kids, and a backpack for DD. I'm a happy woman, we got some NICE stuff that we really need for an upcoming trip. An employee even found my DS who had run away from us in the store (yeah that was not fun). So, I <3 Kohl's!
