| No ECBs, but she gave me CASH!! What??
When I went to CVS today, they did not have some of the items I needed to make all my deals, so I only ended up doing 2 transactions. So here's the scoop, I purchased 3 bottles of Maalox for a total of 20.97 gave all my coupons, both CVS & Mani, and it brought down the total to $13.32 (tax included). When she gave me my receipt, it didn't have the ExtraBucks printed on them. I asked her about it and she said it was because "I used coupons" and brought the cost under $20. What?? Huh?? I was about to go to battle, but she said, "I'll give it to you this once" & then she opened her cash register and gave me a $10 BILL!! So I guess, I can't complain that I actually only spent $3.32 for the 3 bottles of Maalox! BUT, it made me start to think about future purchases, what a hassle. Well, after I got home, I started looking at my receipts from my 2 purchases, and I noticed on the Maalox receipt, she must not have scanned my card which is REALLY WHY the ECBs didn't print out!! My Extra Care Card # wasn't on it and it didn't have the stuff printed on the bottom about which deals I had already done. Maybe she knew she hadn't scanned my card & didn't want to have to re-ring it, but really how long could it take to scan 3 bottles of maalox?? Oh well, just thought that was interesting & to remind everyone to make sure they scan your card! I was able to take the $10 cash and get some really good deals at Office Depot...they have several things for $0.01 each--folders, erasers, rulers & protractors! Have a great day! Erin in Oklahoma

| The store manager needs to be advised... for so many reasons, on so many levels.....and the money needs to be returned (in my opinion) because her cash register is going to come up short. By $10. Ok, so she was a goofball/idiot/just plain lazy, but the store shouldn't have to take the hit for her incompetence. I'd just tell the manager what happened, explain the receipt, coupons, and no ecbs, and then let him/her handle it from there. He/she may very well say "keep the $10", or they may choose rering with a managers override or gift card you the $10 ECBs. I definitely would not walk away without my $10ECBs in one form or another. The manager should address the issue with the cashier so she learns to ring things up correctly and not just hand cash back willy-nilly. Makes you wonder how many people she hands cash back too!?!?!!?!?? Maybe she's a problem employee? Maybe she's just a ditz. But regional managers look at how much over/short the registers are on a daily spreadsheet. This is their job, its what they do. The store manager shouldn't get reemed for something the cashier did. And you should definitely get your $10 in one form or another. Remember, its all on camera.....Just my two cents worth..... |

My ECB's didn't print last week and the shift manager took a Raincheck slip and wrote "ECB's $10" and told me to use it next time I came in. I was worried it might not work but I turned it in the next time and all was fine. It was used like cash toward my purchase. We must go to the same CVS here in OKC. Hmmm.... |

I would try to go back right awway while she is still there and show her what happened. Return what you bought and the $10. Then rering the whole transaction. If she has already gone home then talk to a manger. She may not have known what she was doing, but she could get in trouble for it and she really was trying to help. |

Many times the manager has given me CASH for ECB's that didn't print. I asked for a gift card which he said they cannot do but they can give cash. This has happened at two different stores.

I had this happen to me when the Venus Embrace first came out. The girl just handed me the $3 difference and I asked her why not a gift card, she said she couldn't and I still don't get why!

They give cash all the time. I have gotten cash many times for things that don't print. They then write something down and put it in there register so they are not short. It does stink though cause now your $13 won't count toward your summer spending. You could call the 800 number and try to get them to apply it to your account...

I was doing a return of items I bought (oops) that were over the ecb limit and I had paid with ECBs and the store manager handed me a cash refund--I asked her if it was going to mess her up, since it was supposed to be on a cash card or something, and she said it was just way easier for her if we did it this way (with a SHHHH and a wink and a promise not to tell--who was I going to tell, the CVS police???). I guess they do what works best for their store, but I know 3 different stores have handed me green money when I was supposed to get ecbs or plastic back.

| I can see a manager doing that...
but not a cashier. I've had managers refund me cash, too. But never a cashier. I doubt they have the authority to authorize such transactions. (Judging by the age of most of mine, I'm surprised they were able to aptly fill out the job app and get hired, LOL!)

I went to buy a bunch of ECB items a couple of months ago and the ECB's did not print. There was a problem with their computers. So they did a return on each ECB item and gave me the cash and the item....

That happened to me one time on a weekly deal. I came in late Sat night and when the ECB's did not print I questioned it and the manager is the one who came up, looked at the sale ad and gave me $10.00 out of the drawer. Maybe OP was actually ringing up with a manager who knows what to do about stuff like that to make the drawer come up correctly. Who knows, I hope a reg cashier would not do something like that without approval, that could be detrimental to her job.
