Sorry, to be a pain. We are headed to Myrtle Beach and my parents are going with us. They love their manhattans and martinis. We were wondering if we can get that stuff at Food Lion or will have to hit up a liquor store. Thanks! Mary |

I know in NC, you have to buy it from the liquor store (all they sell is liquor, no beer/wine). I'm not entirely sure about SC, though. I don't *think* you can buy liquor from the grocery store, but I can't say 100%. LOL, and you're not a pain.

Nope, here in SC you cannot buy liquor anywhere but liquor stores. You also can't buy alcohol at all on Sundays here!

Kristie, Thank you for that important information! It would be quite a disaster if we didn't get anything on Saturday and my parents would have to go Sunday night without their happy hour! I'm kind of nervous having them on our vacation, so I'll do whatever it takes to keep them happy! Mary |

No problem! It's one of those odd things about our state and the "Bible Belt", I guess. The funny part of it is, being a life long 'Carolina Girl', I never realized until I was in my 20's that you could actually buy alcohol in most other states on Sundays! I thought it was a national thing! ![]()

We are going to MB on Sat the 19th and we re planning on bringing some stuff with us but we will proably have to get some stuff in SC and my sisters b-day is on sunday and that would have totally stunk if we blow off our trip to the liquir store on sat thinking wee could get it on sunday and thenno bday drinks...thanks again...

| Actually in resort areas you can. For example Hilton Head. My lovely town doesn't even sell alcohol in restaurants on Sunday! Thankfully downotwn started selling it about a year ago. You ahve to be within Greenville City limits. So bizarre!

BTW, I think it is a county by county or city by city law as far as alcohol sales. Myrtle Beach is a resort area, but I have never been so I don't know the rules there.

Interesting. You can buy it here (Richland/Kershaw counties) in resturants but not stores on Sundays. MB is in Horry county, right?

Here in Illinois there are some towns that you can't buy until after 12 on Sunday. Each town has it's own rules. In the past, you couldn't buy it at the regular checkout in the grocery store. You had a special counter that you had to go to for liquor purchases. In Missouri, you could just put the beer or whatever on the grocery belt, so when I moved to the Chicago area and you had to go to a special counter, I wasn't happy. Oops! Am I sounding like a lush??? |

Yea we went to Myrtle Beach last summer and found out the hard way that you have to buy at liquor stores. Sat when we got there we didn't go to the store. So by sunday when we were ready to get our groceries for the week and alcohol we were really upset that we'd have to wait till monday! now we know better for this summer's vaca! Have fun we love it down there!
