Which do you prefer to use when using your coupons? Do the machines give you more hassle than a regular cashier? I have used the machine once and it kept giving me a error message.
What are your preferences?

Person! Always person!! I have tried twice to use coupons at the machines and they never work. Come to think of it even when I don't' use coupons the machines are always wonky around here.

Always see a person. I have tried the self-checkout once with coupons and it was a disaster. The first 2-3 went through great but the others I had issues with.

Always person - When I use the self check-out all the coupons have problems, the attendant comes over, inspects every item, etc, etc - it takes way longer

Person! I find self scanners beep everything and you still end up with a real person! Coupons that I know DON'T beep at a normal register, beep at uscan.

If you beep at uscan then you wait for them to come, wait for them to look through bags, wait while they decide you can use it and wait for them to try to get it to go through. At least with a live cashier, they know you bought it and they can just hit a key to override.

I always avoid the self-check out lanes. More out of principle than anything. It irratates me that they put up 4-6 machines that never work right anyways, in order to not have to pay a salary for someone to do it the right way.

But then I (was) a union member, so that's a big reason why I rarely go to Walmart in the first place. It is one thing to not have a union, but they are just down right unfair to their employees.

Coupons never work at the scanner. Always use a person.

We do not use the scan your own as my husband says we do not work for Walmart. The more people use them the more people that will be out of work

I always use the person now! When I first started using coupons, I felt like the cashiers treated me "less than" so I tried the scanners. Well, the lady had to come over and then she questioned EVERY one of my coupons after that and refused them for stupid things (one per person, etc). Now I have gotten better at coupons and I joke about my coupons right when I walk up to the checker and that seems to help.

I have used the self checkers, but then they come and check almost every coupon so it ends up taking WAYYYY longer and I always have a bunch of pricematching so i can't do that with the self checker lane.

As for Walmart being unfair to there employees. OMG you are so wrong. I have several friends and family that work there they treat there empolyees awesome. They are flexible good pay, and they offer there employees stock options its a great company.

I do not like Unions myself. I think that Unions are not good IMO....

I agree with the rest- I think it's better to go to a cashier. I tried self-checkout's twice and both times I had coupon issues.

I always comp things, so I always go to a real, live person. I've never even attempted the self-scanners.

Sorry, J9, my friend was among the infamous who was asked to finish her reset of an aisle before she left for the day, even though she could have no overtime. And the fact that Walmart does not offer reasonable healthcare is cruddy in my eyes. Some states make Wlamart pay extra taxes becasue so many of their full-time employees are on Medicade.

As for unions, I don't think that every place needs one. But I am a unionized teacher, my dh has had 3 jobs, all union- Teamster, UFCW, and now the Nurse union.

various coupons correct 0 overage.... you can do multiples at the self check out, the cashiers are trained one per person per perchase.

Less coupons - or Overage needed. Cashier! scope out one that you have used before, not one that has denied your coupons.. they'll give you a hard time
