| Not taking coupons w/o code
I went for my weekly trip 2 days ago, and went to use a $3/$15 cvs coupon that I had printed from a reputable newspaper (online version), and the cashier wouldn't put it through, she wouldn't even try. She called the manager over, and said 'is this one of the coupons your talking about?' I do love this store and manager, so I wasn't worried, I said Oh, I printed it from the __________ newspaper, their online edition. He said, "oh we can't take it then, there are a couple different newspapers/magazines, printing our coupons without authorization. If it comes from CVS, it will always have the typed code at the end of the print, that way we can type in the code if the barcode doesn't work. If it doesn't have the typed code, its not authorized and we can't take it. " I did ask for clarification, and he is not referring to a number typed under the barcode it is a different code printed after the little paragraph of exclusions. Has this happened to anyone else? I really like this manager & I don't have any reason to think he's pulling my chain. |

Why would a newpaper advertise for CVS without their authorization??? So that would mean that the people who bought the actual paper in print and cut out the coupon couldn't use it either?!?!?!? All the X/XX q's I've used out of the online papers have scanned just fine and I would think if they scan, that means they are indeed valid, as the CVS computer system is recognizing that particular barcode as valid and acceptable. WEIRD! |

| Newspaper coupon
I tried using this today, as a matter of fact. First store could not scan it. That was prob my fault tho. I had put two pictures of the newspaper on one "Word" document and printed out one page with two Qs, they were quite small and his scanner would not read it. He tried several times but could not/wouldnot push it thru. So, before heading out to Store #2, I ran home, enlarged picture to one per page, printed a few hundred (kidding!) and off I went to store #2 Store #2 had problems scanning the enlarged one also, but cashier pushed it thru no problem. On a side note, I had gotten several of the $1off 2 Gold Emblem candies througout my trips to CVS this week. I found their candy necklaces on sale for $.50, and bought 4. Unfortunately, the scanner would only take one, as I had used a $4/20 email (welcome) Q first... so no biggie, but thought it was interesting that the machine would not take the 2nd CVS Q.... food for thought. With next weeks candy deal, do you think the Gold Emblem candy will be on sale also? Just curious! UPDATE: The "code" info is what you find on the "welcome email" $4/20...it goes something like this: "Cashier, manually enter code #42370", I think your CVS was feeding you a line of %%#$#@, because my Q was taken (and manually entered). Note to self: Enlarge the photo more! Good luck all! Last edited by newbie2008; 06-07-2008 at 01:42 PM. Reason: Added code info |

gold emblem candy is 88 cents week of 6/8 in my ad. I have not tried using the 3/15 yet. hope I don't have a problem today... I had no problems at all with the 5/15 and that was a barcode as well. why on earth would a reputable newspaper do free advertising for cvs? makes NO sense. do we really need to contact CVS corp and verify that they did, in fact, place the ad on page a9 of the akron beacon journal...and that the newspaper is not offering free advertising on their behalf? LOL. |

Hmmm, my store takes them because they scan. I think that the manager at your store may be exercising extreme caution. Sorry!

Alright, ya'll have at least got me curious enough that I'm going to call CVS. The cashier wouldn't even try to scan it, which I know it would have because I had already used it twice before this visit. It didn't make any sense to me either, but the manager went on and on about 'litigation, and unathorized, yada, yada, yada...' I just felt embarassed when they wouldn't take it, and I hate to put up a stink in front of a line of people, even when I know 100% it came from a reputable source. |

My store takes expired CVS coupons and I used the 5/15 tonight to finish up the Charmin/Bounty deal. It is still scanning without a problem. Sorry you are having problems. Take care, Tami |

This is odd. There is actually a statement on the Coupon to tell the Cashier how to process the coupon, step by step, right? Oh please do not send your Managers to my store. |

| I used 5/15 today that was expired as well and it scanned perfectly. I was shocked! I'm still going to try the 3/15 tomorrow. I had a coupon like that once and it scanned ok.

This has happened to me with these coupons too but the cashiers always put the 2nd one in because they can see that I purchased 4 bags of candy. I find it interesting as well. |

That did happen to me to. Not this one but the one before it! It was the same as this one just in a different paper online. Told me the same thing, no code, no use. Fake, Blah blah blah. This one we are using now scans. So I have been using it.

I go to several stores. Some stores will take anything that scans, no questions asked, you could hand them a coupon from the Flintstones chiseled in stone and if it scans they will take it. Some stores scrutinize every aspect of the coupon, printed word, size, color, paper type etc and look for any reason to reject it. I am guessing that some are over zealous in their attempt to stop fraud, maybe they have been taken before or had a recent meeting with a DM or loss prevention about fraud. |
