| Clearance items and using coupons on them.
Smart shopper at Walgreens thread was talking about the same subject, but today I came across this too. When something is on clearance, and it's not in their computer system, they just punch in the price of the item. Today I bought two Garnier facial creams that were on sale, but the cashier almost refused to take the coupon because it's not in their system. But I asked to punch the man. coupon in and she did, but she says she is not suppose to.... IS this true at CVS that they are not suppose to? Or are they suppose to punch it in since I bought the product and I have a right to use the man. coupon for it?? |

The same thing happened to me last week. I challenged the cashier & she called a mgr. He said I was allowed to use the coupon, so she over rode the system. YMMV

| I hate when they manually type in your clearance purchase because you loose your ecbs
You should still be able to use manufacturers coupons on it though. It happened to me with one EOB item. She typed one in so even though I bought the other two I didn't get the 5ECBS |

Angel, The manager at the CVS I shop at most often, told me that there is no problem using the MFG coupons. The cashier just has to scan the item, void it, then enter the clearence price. The manager actually encourages coupon usage on clearence, because they make more $$$ on the items that are marked way downb |

I have to say I am really thankful I haven't had any trouble at my store. The cashier did make sure she read each of my Q's today, but they were all legit and she never said anything. I think she was just concerned that I was getting $30 worth of stuff for $3.48, but she didn't say anything and I just waited patiently and smiled, even though the kids were screaming.

Angel, If an item is marked $.99 and you have a coupon for $1.50, CVS gets the $1.50 plus $.08 for using the coupon. My CVS has an endcap with a bunch of stuff marked at a $1.00 or less. They've had Swimmers diapers marked at $1.49 for months! Guess no one needs that size |

The one on Bannister and Blue Ridge. They have the Huggies Swimmers, size small for $2.45, and the size medium for $1.49. I bought all of the large ones around Christmas! I can't believe they still have them! I also make diaper cakes, so I bought a bunch of small and medium size ones, and made beach themed cakes using the swimmers diapers! SO CUTE!!!

The whole 'scan the item and change the price to the clearance price' thing doesn't work at my stores b/c they mark through the UPC w/ a sharpie, so it's no longer scannable. Same reason that clearance merchandise won't work on ECB deals for me, if they can't scan it then the 'system' doesn't really know that I bought it. Even so, they are *supposed* to take the coupon by manually entering it as a vendor coupon or something. They might try to argue that if the register doesn't know the item was really sold that they won't get reimburse b/c they can't prove they sold it, but that's bologna b/c they don't have to prove that it was sold, just that they had enough in inventory to cover any coupons that are submitted. Even so, if it's just something small that I don't really need and they don't like my coupon-explanation, I just put it back and live to fight another day. LOL
