Thanks to gliddengal (from another board)for the info: just heard from walgreens manager that email was sent from corporate that you are no longer going to be able to use coupon to get catalina deals its either you get the catalina or you can use the coupons you cannot do both, since the catalinas are coupons from that manufacturer, this went out this morning and will hit ALL walgreens by the end of the week. Not sure how this will pan out since some deals a person doesnt know about till the catalina spits out but this is not good. Also catalina deals are now 1 per customer not 1 per transaction and corporate is going to enforce that, so be on the look out. Steph |

| This is SAD, Sad, sad news. I am sure it will hurt Walgreens business tremendously. I bet they will come back in a month or two with another incentive.... as their sales will hit rock bottom.

I just wonder how they are going to limit it one per customer. Don't most of us have multiple stores we can go to?

Here's the catalina website to email them about this if you want. I'm just going to wait til the Olay deal blows over and see what happens next week. There really isn't that great of RR deals coming up that I saw. Am I mistaken? Contact | Catalina Marketing Steph P.S. I DID call the catalina company yesterday for my SIL(sillymomma4)because she was given a HUGE HARD time at a Walgreens using qpons and then getting the catalina. Oliver(from the catalina company)actually called my SIL on her cell phone and told her you CAN use coupons on a RR promotion. I reminded her that you can't use RR to pay for your purchase if it's the same promotion though. |

Yup and different cashiers through out the day. They can't remember everyone and what they've bought.

From another site(again) sweetiris' post Just a few minutes ago I was thinking this was BS. Then my father called. He'd been to the Asheboro and Siler City, NC Walgreens. The RR didn't print at both stores after he bought Olay with $2 coupons. Managers at both stores said the same thing, that they'd had a huge conference call about this and corporate was no longer allowing people to get free soap and a RR. A cashier at one store told my father he was stealing by getting the soap free with the coupons. I'm trying to get him to call and complain about that. Just another reason (I already have so many) for me to despise Walgreens. Give me CVS anyday! I plan on writing to Walgreens telling them that I had planned on buying soap at their store but instead I'll go price match at Walmart. I didn't even care that much about the RR, I just wanted the free soap. After they pulled this crap I don't want to give them my business anymore. |

| Yeah, after next week's Pampers & Cetaphil sale, just to use up my RR and gc (they are sending me one as a "sorry" for the unexcuseable service I got last Saturday) I'm sticking to CVS.

Just remember- this is only rumors There were problems in the beginning of the week with RR's printing out, and they used that excuse. I wouldn't believe this till we have actual proof- most people don't understand coupons anyway! YOU might be getting the product free, but the store will get the same amount back as they would if you used cash. So that excuse just doesn't hold water in my pail!

I seriously doubt this will ever happen. If it does, beleive me, they will be sued for false advertising. IMO they could be already, as it nowhere says you can't "roll" the deals as we put it. It says use like cash. It will be a cold day before anyone, manager or not, accusing me of stealing by using coupons. P&G knows exactly what they are doing when they put out these deals and the coupons so close together. They will be happy to reimburse they stores for both. Wags should be begging us to use coupons. I wonder how many $.08 bonuses they've gotten this week w/ there deals alone, let alone all the other coupons we use? They don't have a clue, do they??????? |

It wouldn't suprise me if they did do this. My DH and I went yesterday and each did two soap transactions. The cahier was kind of snotty and told us that soon there was going to be limits put on them. I hardly doubt that two each was going to break the bank, but they sure were nasty. It kind of suprised me because they're normally pretty nice. I guess I'll just go to Walmart and Target.

Um..... this is truly BS. Stores do not have control over the catalina machines. They do not program them. Heck... they don't even OWN them! The Catalina company owns them. Think about it? Is the Catalina company really going to invest the time and money into re-programming their machines? NO! Why? There is NO reason to. Let's use the Olay RR deal at WG as an example. The catalina is a mfr coupon. Mfr coupons are put out by the mfr. Thus, P&G said, "OK... let'd do this catalina deal." P&G knew they had a current $2/1 Olay coupon. P&G allowed for the Olay RR and $2/1 coupon to happen simultaneously. The mfr had no problem allowing both to happen at the same time. The purpose of the $2/1 coupon was to get the couponers (and I am talking everyday type couponers, not Coupon Kings/Queens) to buy their product. The purpose of the RR deal was to get non-couponers to buy their product. The bottom line purpose of both: to get their product in the hands of the consumer so the consumer will fall madly and deeply in love with the product and be willing to buy it w/o coupon/RR. The way we shop is not the way the majority of people shop. Extreme couponers are a minority. Rumors like this are started by management to get extreme couponers hesitant about shopping when another deal like this comes around. Scare tactics. That's all they are.

I agree, alot may be scare tactics, but nasty cashiers and management can make a shopping experience horrible. If they are going to treat us like criminals, I won't subject myself to it. There are other stores that actually want their products to sell. I'll visit them.

well , since my SIL will bring up my bad day yesterday....I might as well tell you. The manager somewhere here in WI told me I was commiting fraud and argued with me over the trial size pantene deal.....that i couldn't get 6 pantenes and get 12 RR back...He said it's stealing and he had an email into corporate about...which he did while I was still in the store. I had to prove to him that i could do it and I did do it .....he was not very happy!!! LOL They saw all my coupons I had and I told them I like to clip coupons.....man what a bad day. I was in that stupid store for over an hour with 2 little kids also. At the end he gave he his # if I had any further ?'s and they wanted all my info and I told them they could have it if they were going to send me an apology letter....they didn't get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Sillymommy4...if they didn't want the catalinas to print, then they should of fixed it. As it has been said before at least a 100 times, some people do not like us getting anything for free and act like we are taking $$ out of there pocket.

I did the Olay deal this morning with coupons and it worked. I asked the cashier at cosmetics if I could do 3 transactions, since I wanted to get 3 RRs. I had went in on Sunday and everything was out of stock, so today was the first time I even got to use the coupons! She was not very happy with me and sort of flung the first RR at me on the counter. I told her that I would be happy to put the others back if she needed me to. She asked if there was more left on the shelf for others, and I said yes (there was) and she then said I don't care then. I guess I feel lucky that I even got to use my 6 coupons and get 6 soaps. If they are going to offer these deals when they know there are coupons out on the products, then they should be happy to get our business! Like others have said, I do not think they really have a way to track how many deals you do, unless they want to do a store card like CVS.

I just sent a nice long email to corporate asking what their policy was re coupons and RR's. Told them that about a sign by all registers right after my green olay deal saying if you use coupons you wont' get the RR, which wasn't true unless you were buying the green ones that day and if they are going to treat people that use coupons that way I'll just stop shopping there and go to CVS where my coupons and my business is welcome, I'll let you know what they say about coupons and RRs.

What they had a sign up at the registers? WTH? From what I have heard is that these RR come straight from P&G or whomever is "sponsoring" these deals. So if this is true then WG gets their money back for the RR and the coupons, so they ultimately get what they wanted to begin with. I don't really know why WG is having such a cow over this deal, but if they have a problem with anything, I know that they can fix it in their systems. If they did not want us to use coupons, then the Cat machine should be able to sense this, as it does RR's. I think WG is sending their reputation down the toilet with them not being consistent on anything, not having stock, and being so dang rude to people. Not to mention that their RR program sucks! However I still might add that I love WG at the same time. LOL

Don't expect to hear back from them any time soon. I emailed corp about their coupon policy 3 days ago and still haven't received an answer.

Here's hoping this is just a rumor. For the father that didn't get his RR, do you know if he got the green ones? They are not working. Or maybe the Catalina machine was not on, not working or out of paper. I hope it was just a fluke. |
