| employee discount?
Hi, I'm a SAHM of two. I love shopping at Target and was thinking of possibly working there part time in the evenings when my husband is home with the kids. I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of employee discount they offer? (and if it applies to part timers?) Also, any idea on what the hourly wage is (I live in the mid-west)? I'm not sure if it would really be worth it because I'd probably spend my whole paycheck there... Thanks! PS This is my first post, so I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to be posting this!!! |

no It's not In the wrong place and welcome to afullcup and even if you did spend your whole paycheck there at least you would know the deals before anyone else and being here you definitely will learn how to use the coupons on them. those endcap clearances are great.I just know what the employee policy Is on them. :goodpost2:

Employees get paid $7.90 here in MN (my neighbor turned down the job ). As far as the discount, I believe it is 10%.

I believe the discount is 10 percent for employees. Don't know for sure the hourly wage but I think it's around $9-$10 an hour for cashiers (this is in CO). Hope that helps!

hourly wage is different per store. Target Corporation has set up rules, for instance, where the bare minimum a store can pay a cashier is 7.50. However, each store/district can set their own wages above that mark for cashiers based on how well the store/district is doing at that time. I know some in different states who made almost $10 an hour. In D.C., I made 7.50. And yes, the employee discount is 10%. They also offer other benefits, such as healthcare, special discounts on certain products (like Dell and certain daycares), among many other things. Target can be a stressful job. As much fun as I had working there, I was glad I only worked weekends. Because I started out doing some evenings and after being at home with the kids all day, going to work at Target (especially when I worked at Guest Services) with not much of a break in terms of stress level was daunting.

The discount is 10%, the only catch you need to use cash, check or the target visa, gift cards are ok (if you did not buy it, a stupid policy if you ask me) I work at a Target in IL, i started at 7.50 but that was a while back, some of the new cashers starting now are starting at 8 and guest service at 8.50. but stores are different. |

We have many part time SAHMs working in our store. That's how I started out. In the store I am at it is minimum wage to start. 10% off discount. It's really nice when you have a rewards to use in addition to the team member discount. I say go in and see what they offer in your area. Most of my check does go to Target but my money was going there anyway! Now I just get more bang for my buck

I was telling my DH that when our DS gets older I'm gonna apply for a cashier job at Target at nights. And I'll be coupon friendly but wise enough to check the coupons so I wont be taken advantage of (by some SD'ers hehe). I think I know better than some of the cashiers I've dealt with. I know the policy and I know how to adjust the coupon amt. I told him, I'll make a list for him then he can go to my line and pretend we dont know each other. He thinks I'm crazy and it ain't gonna happen.

There pay rate varys by position and experience..I worked there, oh wow 10 years ago when they first opened in NY, part-time while saving for my wedding. I worked at the jewlery counter and also as a back up cashier and then I made 9.25 an hour. I was also at that time a Manager for LNT. So I definatley beleive you r back round would determine if you get the standard or a bump in pay..And yes it was 10% discount and they also work you like a dog if you are on the close shift and on the floor..Recovery was hell!!!

I don't know about the Target policy, but at Walmart, you can NOT use your discount on CLEARANCE items.

I worked graveyards at Target stocking the shelves, and I loved it! (NO cranky customers to deal with!) You get and extra $1 an hour for differential pay so I was making close to $10 an hour. What I loved most about nights is that's when price change is in there marking everything down, so I always had first look at everything that went clearance. And yes, you can use your 10% discount on clearance! The only thing you don't get a discount on is gift cards. You can also add your hubbys name (or your childs name) to get him his very own discount card to use when he's not shopping with you.

Overnight hours vary by each store, and then it varys on what you do overnight as well. It's anywhere from 10pm to 9am.

Just an FYI. If you work nights there could be a lot of shifts to 11pm. I know my MIL has to do a few of these and during the holidays it is later. Can I please just vent, I need to get something off my chest! I have kept this bottled up for months... My MIL works for Target and NEVER tells me when there are good deals. Not once. I told her how one day I drove to 4 stores to find Pampers boxes on clearance. Her reply, "oh yea, early in the week they were ringing up really cheap!" Thanks for picking up the phone MIL! She knows I am a bargain shopper! |
