We love our TiVo SO much!! We find that we actually watch *less* TV than before since we are just watching shows that we have requested instead of sitting down and flipping through the channels. I love that I don't have to schedule my life around shows or make sure that I have turned on the VCR before I go out for the night.

and, No! I am not getting any kind of kickback if you buy, LOL!! We are so happy with ours though that I hope I can help someone else.

is this something just for kids or is it the actual tivo? Also i have direct tv but there dvr is expensive anyone know if this is compatible?

It's the regular TiVo, I think it's just being marketed to people with kids on that web page.

From their web site FAQs:

Does the TiVo service include program listings for my area?
The TiVo service includes complete listings for over 13,000 cable systems, DIRECTV, Dish Network, and terrestrial broadcast TV systems in the U.S.

so I would assume you can use it with DIRECTV.
