Sending dh to Target to correct coupon fiasco

I have decided that the cashiers at my Target are sexist (they are always women--the guys must all work stock or something) and I need to send dh to make all of the great coupon deals. This is the third trip in a row during which I've had terrible problems, yet he never encounters any of this! No one has ever told him "We don't take internet coupons [when they're Target's own coupons]" or "You can only use one per purchase" or "No, I can't price adjust"! With 3 kids in tow (dh out of town), I went last night to cash in on the candy and other deals. The cashier (turned out to be brand new) didn't take off at least $13 in coupons, including two of the coveted Target $2 candy coupons!

When she had trouble getting some to scan, she said "Oh, you can only use one, so it's not taking the rest. That's our policy." Since I had a toddler climbing out of the cart and a whiny 5yo, and my 12yo was off getting a new pack of Kandoo wipes because they were sliced open, I was fairly distracted. She called over a manager who was no help. I didn't point out to her that it's obviously not their policy since they were taking multiples of some (which also said "one coupon per purchase") but not others. I stupidly didn't even think to bring the coupon policy with me because everyone has been posting successful deals! She also kept the ones that didn't scan, except for some 50-cent coupons. I had to ask for the coupons back that didn't go through and she said "I'd have to go through and check each one." I just looked at her like, Ok I'm waiting for you to do that. And don't mind the huge line that's backing up behind me... I still didn't get all of them back (including the $2 candy coupons).

I've complained to Target corporate and they were excellent, but I'm hoping to just get this resolved at the store. Last time this happened, dh went in and got all of the money back. Maybe he looks mean and scares them?

Boy, I hate Target (I think it's just my Target).

I really don't know what to say here. My Target is never like this to any of it's customers. Maybe it's the store, maybe it's the cashiers. What I do know is you should try to go in and perhaps speak to a store manager during the week. (I know, time? ) That is the only option I can give you. And complaining to corporate. But when you do so, always make sure that you get the cashier and the GSTL's name. Perhaps their practices are a little shady. Or, perhaps, they need a better training program.

Good luck to you and I am so sorry this is happening!

My target is my favorite place to use coupons...the least hassle by far. I hope you have another target close by...it sounds like it would be worth a few extra miles. I know I am boycotting the walmart 2 miles from myhouse b/c I have had too many issues. I'd rather drive 5-10 miles to another one than deal with those idges again.

It's hard for me to hear stories like this when my Target is so great. I know, it probably just sounds like I am saying that because I work there, but it's not. Don't get me wrong, I have one GSTL that I don't even bother calling when I have a problem because she is rude to customers. But all in all, everyone from the cashiers to the stockroom people are very helpful at my Target. Even if I am having a bad day, i make sure that I am polite to customers because that is my job; I am representing a company, not myself.

Like I've said before, Target needs a universal approach to the way they handle things. yes, normal prices can be different from Target to Target and I understand the no price matching between Targets and other stores, but they need a universal stance on price adjustments, coupons, internet coupons, holds, etc. Because when one Target takes internet coupons but the one down the road doesn't, it does a disservice to the customer.

Okay, so does Target price adjust coupons or not??? I was just in there the other night and the cashier kept scanning coupons that made the computer beep, and she never hit the button to accept the coupon, so I lost about 12 bucks. I took my reciept to the service counter and the lady behind was sooo stinkin mean to me, hands on hips yelling at me that they do not price adjust and none of these coupons were acceptable. She accused me of lying about one price on a product that was on clearance. the pkg said $4.23 and my q was $4, it rang up $2.?? and I when I told her this was the case she rolled her eyes and said I was obviously wrong... anyways, I was so flustered, she shoved some q;s back at me, saying they weren't accepted. Another manager came over and told her to read the coupon, she informed the nasty woman that the company would reimberse target for the price on the q reguardless of the price of the item.all the nasty woman kept saying to me is that using more than one coupon constitutes FRAUD... she said it over and over... with that I took my q's and reciept and left... near tears I know I have had cashiers adjust the price in the computer when they catch an overage and Mrs Nasty insisted that they NEVER do that... The COMPUTERS CANNOT DO THAT!!! hands on hips again.. So what's the deal?? Adjust/not adjust??/anyone know??? I will never go to that store again.. except maybe to get Mrs. Nasty's name so I can call corperate.. She made me feel like a thief, and I made sure my q's were not the least bit questionable, Even most of the pictures were the same... I could go on and on about this nightmare what a jerk!

You need to turn her into corporate! That is not how she should treat customers

I don't know what you mean by price adjust the coupon...like just to accept the coupon if it beeps? As long as you have bought the product, like that manager said, Target will still be reimbursed, even in the circumstance that the coupon covers the cost of the item.

I don't know why I am confused about the price adjusting thing...you mean like, for instance, the product you want to buy is on clearance or sale for, let's say $3, and you have a coupon for $4 off, correct? I have never price adjusted a product to do a coupon before. I've just hit the "accept" button when I clearly see the product has been purchased.

Her point was that she was not going to GIVE me the product for free with an overage.. so I said, can't you just take the price off "adjust the coupon to match the price of the item"??? She tells me "I was a cashier and the COMPUTER DOES NOT DO THAT!!!" real huffy like. The real kicker was when she tells me in so many words that I was lying about the price of the clearanced item... I could have crawled into a hole...
My cashier never bothered to hit the accept button, I had to keep reminding her to look and three coupons later she was like, oops... and would hit the button, scan some more, more beeps, more scans.. I remind, she hit the button again.. she missed like $12 worth, and Mrs. Nasty wouldnt hear of it... she scanned my reciept for the coupons and would mark the reciept when she matched them, I caught her marking some twice and telling me that I had more coupons than products.. I asked to recount my q's and she put them behind her computer and would not give them back... she told me not to worry about it, she was counting now... OMG, I was shaking!!!

I am so sorry Mom26. You can adjust a price, so I don' tknow what her big deal was.

Where do you guys live? And just go to the other Target like Mom gaudet said. Such a pain, but it's less of a pain for you. But what you should do is get that person's name and report the problem to the store manager and to corporate.

LOL I work Guest Services and I work some GSTL duties (I am not a full time GSTL because I only work weekends, but on the weekends i work, I cover breaks, missed shifts, etc). I don't work a cash register anymore, but I will be more than happy to adjust your coupons and such if you want to drive down to VA

The one we were talking about was the new CVS, where he wouldn't let me stack many coupons and then I went negative but didn't know it because the computer was slow and my screen kept showing a different balance, and then he wouldn't return my ECB's and I had to buy a ton of extra stuff to get "positive" and he wouldn't let me use man coupons at that point (couldn't comprehend that yes I'd have to buy even more but eventually I'd go into the positive). Or there was also the Walgreen's experience where the manager kept snarling at me for using 3 RR's in one transaction when her own employee didn't say a word and the computer didn't beep, yet it was all my fault, and they had to void my sale and re-ring it, which took over a half hour. All of these happened in the last week!

I go to the Target on Siegen. It's about 10 minutes away, and the other one is a half hour or more (you know how THAT could vary depending on day, time of day, and direction of the wind! ). I don't even go much anymore because of this type of thing--I guess once in a while I could try the other one. All I can say is, it's bad when you prefer Walmart to Target!!

Oh, the other thing that really grated on me was that the cashier (who was ignoring many of the beeps and thus "losing" my coupons for me) kept whispering to me behind her hand "You're really getting the better deal, we're not supposed to accept all of these coupons." I bought 4 Thai Kitchen things and she informed me that none of those coupons work so handed them back after I had to ask for them. Hmm, maybe they don't accept coupons on products that start with a T either.

Mom26, you should be able to get compensation from Target corporate--your story happened to me a month ago (minus the part where they implied you were a criminal!) and when I called, they apologized and sent me a GC! I know how you feel, when you are absolutely sure that your coupons exactly line up with what you're buying and they haven't expired, etc. And then they make you feel terrible and you just want to leave, even though you haven't done anything wrong!

Some of these cashiers don't even realize that Target's website has coupons--I've seen several posts with customers having trouble getting them accepted when they're put out by the store itself!

I do remember your problems with the new cvs and walgreens. I guess it just goes to show you, you never know what kind of response you will get at a store. Just depends on the cashier and their mood!!!!

Cashiers are suppose to adjust the coupon to the price of the item if the coupon is more than the cost of the item. Unfortunately not all stores are on top of the coupon training issue. I watch the message boards and see the problems people encounter and use those issues to retrain cashiers finding the correct information and passing it onto cashiers. I work hard for my money, so I like to save where ever I can. I use coupons and admire people who use them too. I actually had the same issue happen while shopping in a nearby Target. I know the policy like the back of my hand, and can tell them where to find the information.

I had this happen to me tonight (at the 2nd target I went to). I went to CS and at first the girl wasn't going to fix it (said it couldn't be done) but I held my ground (not rudely) and then another girl came over and fixed it

Some of these cashiers don't even realize that Target's website has coupons--I've seen several posts with customers having trouble getting them accepted when they're put out by the store itself!
I hate reporting anything simply because I don't want my complaint to change the store policy on coupons...If I were to cause a stink then maybe they will stop accepting coupons with overage weither they adjust them or not, or worse yet, limit the number of items you can buy with coupons... I worry that it will hurt everyone in the long run... I just know that I won't go back to that store EVER!!! I have another Target I can go to, so I'll just give them my business...
