What is Target's policy on returning something without a receipt? I got a duplicate baby gift and I don't need two of them. I have no receipt or gift receipt (and can't get one, would be considered rude to either of the gift givers). It's been a LONG time since I have returned anything to Target...

AFAIK, they take your ID/License and put the cost of the item on a GC, at least at my store that's what they do.

I think their policy is that you MUST have the receipt. If not, you need to have the credit card it was purchased with and they look up the receipt that way. I know they have really tightened the screws on return policies lately.

Were the items purchased off of your gift registry? If so, you can print your purchase log off at the kiosk in the store and they will accept that in place of a receipt. HTH!

Oh, and they will need your driver's license, because I think you can only do so many returns without a receipt per year.

It wasn't purchased on a registry (don't have one set up yet). I know I haven't hit my limit of returns cause I haven't returned anything in forever. I will give it a shot tomorrow. thanks!

I was told you can return up to $70 a year without a receipt. They will ask for your driver's license and keep track of it that way.

| Yes, this is correct. The most recent, updated return policy is that you can return up to $70 of product per year-that is, a rolling year. They count starting the first time you return something. So, you should be able to return your item and get store credit. They will need your driver's license, they record returns with that.

last year I returned a $399 xmas gift and they make me pick something in that dept and only give me $75 gift card, said it is their policy; so I went from one gift I don't like to a bunch of stuff I don't really need. very frustrating

Heres an idea that I have HEARD works. Go online tonight ( or go to the store tomorrow) and make a registry. Put that item on it. Wait a few days for it to kick in, then return the item using said registry. I have been told it works well. Some people have used this method to return all sorts of things. It doesn't have to be a baby registry...

Without a receipt, you're allowed to return or exchange up to $70 in merchandise in a rolling 12 month period. You'll get the lowest sale price from the previous 90 days in store credit (I would go now since Black Friday and holiday sales are coming up). If the item is no longer being sold or has been clearanced out, they won't be able to return it without proof of purchase (receipt, gift receipt, or form of payment). If the value of the item is over $70 and you have not yet gone over the $70 limit, you'll be able to exchange for something in the same department (based on the first 3 digits of the DPCI) at that point that is of greater or equal value, you'll just have to pay the difference If you had a registry at Target, you'll be able to exchange or return up to $140 in merchandise without a receipt. You'll just need the gift purchase log, which you can either print from home or the registry kiosk at the store. |

| Does that mean that you can't put an item on the registry just to cover up for the no receipt on items you have bought previously and lost the receipt?

| The way the registry works, is that if you have one, and an item was bought off of it, Target can use the gift purchase log to return the item. It will not count as a no-receipt return. Another benefit of having a registry is that if you don't have a gift receipt, form of payment, and the item is not taken off your registry, is that you have an increased limit on no-receipt returns-- $140 instead of $70. So if the OP's item is more than $70, she can create a registry and add any item. Then print the gift purchase log and do a no-receipt return up to $140. But in order for it to be processed like a regular return, the item has to be purchased off the registry.

I have never had a problem returning without a receipt as long as I take a Target gift card.

see what I have heard is yes, you can purposely MAKE a registry and add that item. The person does not have to have used your registry to remove the item, since most people don';t give it to the cashier. I heard this from people who specifically did this. It really is supposed to work

my understanding is that if you were registered at Target then you can return it for store credit. Or that was what my daughter had to do. However, I know the Target's return policy has changed sometime this year and you may not be able to do that. Have you thought about regifting?? |

All the Targets around will not allow any returns without receipts ever. They won't even do store credit or let you exchange something for something else. Jerks
