Target refused to accept ebt for slimfast and gatorade, but cub foods did

So I was at target today and bought slimfast powder and a bottle of gatorade. I tried to use my EBT card on the order, but was refused. They said slimfast and gatorade aren't food.. The EBT card worked on strawberries though.
So I paid and left.
This was the coon rapids mn store
I than went over to cub foods and bought the exact same thing and my ebt card worked fine on the order. The cub foods lady said yes slim fast and gatorade are covered by ebt.
So I am not sure if I should complain to corp. or just let it go. Oh EBT is like foodstamps if you are wondering. (Please don't be mean to me because I am on assistance,, I am on assistance for a physical disability..) thanks

Many stores will reject food stamps for something that is ready to eat, like single serve chips or drinks. Also, they can refuse to take EBT/ food stamps on items that are taxed... it is up to the store.

When we were on WIC I noticed that some foods were accepted at some stores while at other stores they were not. I'm talking about brand types like when at one store I could buy mozerella cheese and at another I could not even though it is clearly marked in the brochure that it was OK to purchase for my 16 oz of cheese.

The store I had the most problems with was WalMart. The managers do the scanning for the cashiers at our store (it's their policy) and they always looked down their nose at me while they did it and was VERY rude.

stores have items categorized as "grocery" or "general merchandise" in most cases. I have read about people having trouble buying target brand baby formula with EBT. This seems to be, yet, another issue target has that most other stores do not. I would probably just let it go, though, it is a valid complaint IMO.

I'm also on assistance (EBT), no shame in it, your taxes paid for the program. FYI, WM has NO TROUBLE with the Slimfast. I buy it ALL THE TIME! If you can eat it it's a food! I'd call corp. and I'd call your state's program administration. In my state, it's Health and Human Services. Or just go to your local Food Stamp office.

If I were you, I'd be OUTRAGED!!!

I find it commendable that you are on assistance and still look for deals. Many times I've witnessed others using EBT and no coupons, you think they would want and need to stretch those dollars!!!! Sorry about your problem and the problem ridden Target!!!!

In the state of IL, ANYTHING you put in your mouth to eat, is suppose to be covered on foodstamps. Some people have dietary issues, and have to purchase ensure shakes for example, and these are covered. Also for people wanting to stretch those dollars , any fruits and vegetable seeds or seedlings( plants already started for you) are also covered on foodstamps. Alot of people are unaware of this. You can report this store to your public aid office, or the number on the back of your foodstamp card, and let them know that this store is not allowing you to purchase these items, and someone is suppose to call the store to see why they arent doing this. I am not sure what other states guidelines are, but since this is a government program you would think it was the same everywhere. I hope this helps a little.

I think coupon classes should be mandatory for all on EBT I only get about $120 a month for two people, three meals a day, so I have to make them stretch like elastic!

I buy Special K drinks on my EBT and have never had a problem. You can even buy vegetable seeds in spring and summer on EBT, at least that is what my caseworker told me! The only things I have had problmes with is hot, prepared foods like rotisserie chickens or hot wings. It also depends on the store because I can go to Quik Trip and grab a fountain drink (don't put the straw in it!) and sandwich and use EBT. So it all depends on what you buy and where you buy it.

Please contact corporate. I remember training for EBT as a manager at Target, and we were told to contact corp about items not ringing correctly for ebt food items.

I just called corp. They said to use the ebt card at the super target stores because they think that the system will allow it at the super target stores. Otherwise they are going to call the regular store and see what's going on.
They did apolagize, but that's it . They didn't even offer any of those we are sorry coupons that every talks about.

Sounds like another Target register programming problem to me. I wonder why corporate would think that register programming would be different at Super Target...that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

On the Slim Fast, I bet it was tagged as a pharmacy item...I use to have a similar problem with my EBT card a couple years ago at WalMart. The really strange thing is some flavors of a protein supplement would be fine but others wouldn't.
