I live in Mpls and operate a blog here. A reader emailed me saying that the store manager at her Target said they are now accepting expired coupons. I posted it as a question and other readers confirmed that their store managers said the same thing. Some reports have been that Target staff are saying "all Targets" are accepting them.

I am wondering if all of you who live elsewhere can tell me whether your store is taking expireds now too? (A note - a large grocery store chain in town here accepts expireds, so they may be trying to compete and/or their headquarters are here so they may be testing it; we got price matching months before everyone else.)

Ideas? Comments?

Are they accepting both Manuf. and Target expired q's? My store (PA) does not accept either. Lucky you!!!

The only way to find out is for us to ask at customer service if expires are accepted.

I just called my local Target in upstate NY they do not except expired coupons of any type. I was also told the new computer system will tell cashiers if right poduct is there for each coupon and if it is not they will not except the coupon. You can still use 1 target coupon & 1 manf. coupon per item. They said t might have been a single store doing it because of another kind of store in the area is excepting them. This is not a normal practice for Target stores. Hope this helps.

I actually have a ton of expired coupons I have not yet thrown away...that I never got a chance to use... this would be so nice !

I called the N. St. Paul Target and was told that they do not. I'm so bummed! Maybe it will change if other metro stores are excepting expired q's. Cub is just next door to them so maybe they will try to compete. That would be soooo coool!!!

I don't think the targets here in ATL accept expired. I know they certainly don't take expired target coupons because I had one last time (it was one that had printed after my reciept) and I didn't realize it expired the day before - but since it was a target coupon when the cashier rang it, it beeped and she looked at the date and said "sorry can't take this." So maybe it just depends on the store?

So you are saying the downtown Mpls Target is taking expiredse or one in the suburbs?

I'm here in the twin cities, mn & I'm not aware of any Targets who take expireds.

I checked out the posting and she was stating Maple Grove. I guess you could call and ask to confirm this. I won't be driving down to MG anytime soon.

I haven't tried but would guess they are trying to compete with Cub. We'll see.

I personally have not checked with my Targets in the NE Twin Cities. But it wouldnt surprise me.

Did any of you read the article in the last Sunday paper (not sure if it was the Star Trib or the Pioneer Press). About how the top two grocers in the Twin Cities are Cub and Target. And since both of their headquarters are right here in the Twin Cities, neither of them want to be 'second' in their hometown. So, it wouldnt surprise me if they start competing even more.

I tried today; got the Soapsoft deal (4 deals at once) using the expired $3 off the pump wyb the refill (or viceversa?); anyway......
NO BEEPS, NO NOTHING!!! worked like a charm!
I read in another thread about somebody getting this deal on Sunday; coupon expired last Saturday; so I ventured..... it may be a thing with that particular coupon maybe. Not sure and did not want the attention so I did not ask!

I'd be wary to use expireds without definitely checking with the store manager first. I want them to get reimbursed for everything.

I am trying to not take offense from your comment. You would think they have something in the system that would stop expireds from going through, right?! otherwise people would be trying all the time and getting stuff with expireds and it would be well known. I did not have in mind to steal from them as you made this sound.

From what I learned from our local Cub Foods, stores have up to six months to turn in coupons to have it refunded. I believe that is why our grocery store takes them up to 3-months past date because they can still get them sorted and sent in by the 6-month time frame. I am unsure how Target sends their coupons in versus a grocery store as I have only worked at a grocery store. But I would have to assume that Target would get reimbursed for MFG coupons just like Cub does as long as they meet the 6-month requirement.

I have had an expired q go through Target on a few occasions, on accident of course....sometimes they expired the day before and I just try them and hold my breath, no issues. But my Target's policy is not to take expired's. If they do start that would be AWESOME!

I am not sure if they have changed how they do it now but a few years ago I used to work in the cash office at Target. We would take the big bucket of coupons and put them into a clear bag and that bag would sit there until it was full. Once full we would send it downtown. So the q's in there expired while waiting to be turned in so I don't think it would be a problem of reimbursement unless they were really old.
