| The cashier gave me my coupons back!!
So I went to Wal-Mart today to do the Huggies Pull Ups flushable wipes deal. I bought 6 of them. The cashier scanned my coupons, verified the amount was correct cause it beeped, and then she handed them back to me, gave me my change, and told me to have a nice day!

I am sorry but that is not a score to me. The cashier will not balance her drawers because she is now lacking $9 from the value of the coupons she gave back to you. for 6 wipes, you used 3 $3/2 coupons equal to $9 in sale for the store. These coupons HAVE TO BE submitted to clearinghouse for them to be paid. the cashier may have been confused that's why she gave them back to you. that happened to me a few times and I told them they should keep it since these are part of payment. Will you consider going back to the cashier/customer service so she won't have to pay for it? I know if you realize the mistake, you will do the right thing. we all make mistakes, what matters is we are willing to correct them.

Wow, that's unusual! Stores are supposed to keep the coupons so they can get reimbursed.

OP, I don't mean to sound harsh. I understand you're new to all these. but if coupons are returned to us, the cashier will have to pay for them since they are counted as part of the sale. if they give back all the coupons they scan, they will definitely NOT balance their drawers. All those coupons that went through as shown in your receipt have to be accounted for at the end of cashier's shift. $9 is a lot for a cashier who barely makes minimum. I'm sure you understand. You wouldn't want to happen to you if you were the cashier. Its a learning experience, don't feel bad. If you make the effort to correct it, I'm sure the cashier will also remember you for doing the right thing!

Yep, she was probably confused. I have had them give it back to me before and I said "no thanks, you keep it". That's when they're like "oh what am I doing yes give that back!". So you should probably take your receipt back to customer service with the coupons and let them know so she can get credit for those.

IF this happens again PLEASE give them back to her. This was not a "score" for you. It actually hurt the cashier's drawer. She obviously was confused. If you knew right away (instead of leaving the store) then you should have told her and given them right back to her.

I have had this happen too..more than once....I always tell them they need to keep the Q's and they usually realize what they have done. OP...no one thinks you did anything wrong but like it was said that cashier will have to pay/get in trouble...not WM...so it would be very nice of you to go back and try and make it right for her

I agree with many posters...I know it would be nice if they could give them back without the cashier getting in trouble. I know that some stores can terminate a cashier if their drawers are incorrect. Maybe you can call up to the store, & explain the situation and see what they suggest.

a nice cashier at WM is like finding treasure these days. hopefully, that cashier doesn't turn into one of the "not nice ones" due to her first bad experience with taking coupons. it wasn't OPs fault but hers, I just hope she didn't do that for all coupons presented to her!!! OR it may mean her whole paycheck for the week. I know WMs are not too forgiving on issues like this

Thanks everyone for your input. For whatever reason when I do my couponing, my nerves are always all over the place. I never know if the coupons are gonna beep, is the cashier gonna be rude and stop my transaction, did I do the math right, etc...so I wasn't even thinking right. The fact that I am new to all of this has something to do with it too, I'm sure. So with that being said, I am planning to return to the store today.

Yea, I had a lady give them back to me once, I told here "ma'am you have to keep those to get reimbursed" She looked as if she couldn't give a crap, but I knew I did my part about being right. I'm a cashier, so I know how much it SUCKS to be short at the end of the night, so returning them would be nice!

Your nerves will calm down after you've used coupons for a while. I used to be nervous, too, like I was doing something wrong. Now I don't really think about it. If there's a problem with my q's, I either have the item removed from my order or address the issue directly. |

Don't feel bad, when I first started couponing 30+ years ago I remember how confusing/ nerve wracking it could be. Even now (at 45) if I get a witchy cashier or a deal that goes awry I can make a mistake now and then on proper usage or interpretation of how a coupon should be legitimately used. I am sure Walmart will be very happy with your honesty when you explain the situation to them. Consider it your first learning lesson and keep reading and applying your new knowledge and you will be an old pro in no time.

"It's the small things" That is one of my life mottos and I even gave a message about it to my church one Sunday. This may be somewhat of a thread hijack but indulge me a little ![]() I went to Wal-Mart one weekend with DH and kids, they make even the smoothest trips a little more complicated---but I wouldn't know what to do without them. Anyway, we had bought several things and my kids had taken off their coats and put them in the buggy since it was a little warm in the store. To make a long story short, when we got out to our van and began putting in the bags, I noticed a pair of scissors still in the cart that had been hidden under my DD's coat. Apparently they had gotten overlooked when we were placing our items on the register to pay. The scissors were only .48, but I sent my husband back in the store with the scissors to pay for them. He told me the door greeter and the cashier looked at him like he was crazy when he explained what happened and that he needed to pay for the scissors. It is almost as if people are becoming so desensitized that they no longer expect people to do the right thing. I think that is really sad. The bottom line is some people would have just considered it a freebie, but I hold myself to a higher standardl therefore we had to pay for the scissors. If everyone would do that, the world would be a much better place. Often times we get overwhelmed because we feel like our small actions never amount to anything. Yet, we never know how much one small act of kindess, or one small act of love, or one small act of generosity, or one small act of honesty can help change the world. Okay, off my soapbox now and op----good for you for deciding to take the q's back!!!

I agree it is the small things. OP, kudos to you for taking them back. Once I bought several things at Walmart, including a vacuum. After handing her my coupons and getting everything straight it came to an amount I 'thought' was a little lower than I should be. At that point, since I had taken up a lot of time I thought I must have counted wrong. When I got home, I looked over the receipt and sure enough, she hadn't rung up the vacuum. I held it up and she used the hand scanner so I don't really know what happened. My kids were all excited thinking I had a 'free' vacuum. I called the store and asked for the manager and explained to him what happened and that I was returning within the next twenty minutes to pay for it. You would have thought I had told him that a spaceship was landing on his roof. He was so happy that somebody called back he gave me 30% of the vacuum when I got back. Evidently honesty isn't a real big policy. I felt good showing my children how to do the right thing and I felt good about letting Walmart know what had happened. When you return the coupons, knowing that you are helping out the poor cashier who probably was a bit confused, you will be feeling really great about it! Kelly |
