As a soon to become new grampa (blush) I need to bone up on baby stuff again. Can anyone give me some pointers on Diapers and such ? My son's wife is due in mid Aug, and I would like to try & help them out. They live in Huntington WV, so if someone from that area is listening, can you give me an idea on what stores are over there and what kind of deals might be out there so I can help them out ? The main thing will be diapers to start as they told me they plan on breast feeding to start. ![]() MUCH THANKS !!!! steve ![]() ![]() ![]() "God put me on this Earth to take pictures, and I'm not ready to be developed yet ! Blessings on the soon to be grandbaby! I have a one year old and I know how overwhelming it can be to prepare for baby's arrival. There are a few things that you can do that will help. Diapers.com is an excellent place for diapers, ect and you could have them shipped to them. If you do a quick search, you can find all sorts of online codes and discounts. Another suggestion seems strange, but the new parents will be oh so grateful. Get a few packs of preemie outfits. It sounds crazy but trust me, I had an 8 1/2 lb baby and he was swimming in newborn clothes. ALso, babies lose quite a bit of weight the first few weeks so these will be a lifesaver! Also, if you have the time, sign your son, daughter in law, yourself and your spouse for Pampers, Huggies, Gerber, Beachnut, ENfamil similac and Nestle goodstart mailing lists. Be sure to specify that you intend to breastfeed, believe it or not the formula companies will send more coupons to nursing mothers. (Trust me on this one) Now even if your Daughter in law is breastfeeding, she can use the formula samples and checks to sell or trade for diapering/baby stuff. This is what I've learned and I hope this helps. I'm happy to pass it on! Again Congrats! |

Don't go overboard on the baby lotions, washes, shampoo's, ect. Those bottles of baby wash last forever. Diapers and wipes are great but make sure you save the receipts so they can be exchanged if the baby is sensitive to certain brands (my kids couldn't wear pampers they got horrible rashes from those diapers). Also don't go overboard on the little sizes. Kids blow thru those small size diapers quickly. If it's a present I rarely buy diapers smaller then size 2, even with a little baby the diapers will get worn eventually. But I also had/have large kids, my oldest son never wore newborn anything (11lbs6oz and 23" at birth). Same thing if you are looking at clothes. First time mom's generally get loads and loads of clothes in the newborn, 0-3 month and 3-6 month range. I know there are outfits that only got wore 4 times between 2 boys because I received so much in the small size that they wore for such a short time. So I don't buy clothes under 6 month size either if it's a gift. If they are registered anywhere take a look at their registery. You can tell alot about their taste by the things they took the time to pick out. Let me tell you how sweet it is that you are taking the time to ask these questions. My father-in-law can't even talk about diapers without blushing much less mention breastfeeding. Best thing I can say is be supportive of their choices. They will be different then the ones you made but that doesn't mean someone is right or wrong. A great website is AskDrSears Homepage there is loads of baby info if you are interested. |
