Policy on $3 off item if it rings up wrong

Does Walmart still give you up to $3 off an item if it rings up wrong? A friend said she asked today and they told her no. Is it posted any where on their site?

Yes...and No...

The scanning exception/$3 off policy is ONLY valid for California stores at this time. The program was changed a couple years back.

That is correct- at least for my store. But I think it means walmart was losing a lot of money by doing that (Meaning lots of mistakes) otherwise why would they stop doing it?

Yes, they removed the announcements on that in all registers at our SWM for quite sometime now. I asked one time when an item rang up wrong and was told by CSM that they have done away with the $3 off or its free for the first item if it rings up incorrectly.

I've read discussions on this and many are saying that individual states consumer protection laws may supercede this WM policy and the state laws prevail.

When the new Walmart supercenter opened here (previously we had a regular Walmart store) they had this policy, it only lasted a few months, however. At least half of all transactions that I have in the store, something rings up wrong. I bought a baby carrier for my daughter, shelf price 12.96, and was charged 19.96. usually, its just a small amount, but, you REALLY have to watch them. Our Walmart had an item, with huge signs proclaiming it was now $2.50, price rollback from $2.88, and the item STILL scanned 2.50, it was even in the sales ad stating it was now 2.50.
it would be so nice if they still had this policy, however, since they put items on clearance, and don't mark them down in the computer, and, have so many items that they charge more than the shelf price on, they are netting billions in profit yearly, on customers who do not closely watch their transactions or check their receipts. I for one, watch closely, and double check the receipt, but I know so many people who checkout, take their stuff home, and never notice that they were over charged on something.

I live in NY and our County (Erie County) has a scanning law. It's called Super Refund. If a store scanner is incorrect or an item is legitimately in the wrong spot, the consumer is entitled to a "super refund" which is compensation of ten times the overcharge up to a maximum of $10.00 (For example, if the price you pay is $16.00 for an item but it was supposed to be $14.50, you would get $11.50 back, the difference-$1.50 plus the difference x 10 up to a maximum of $10-$10.00). I've used it a bunch of times both at the supermarket and Target. All you have to do is take the item to the service desk, they verify price mistake and issue the super refund (Have to fill out a form Weights and Measures) I've gotten the super refund a bunch of times!!! And if a store claims that they don't go a "super refund" you can report them.
