SS refers to Smart Source and if you see something referenced as SS 9/14, this refers to the Smart Source inserts that were sent with the 9/14/08 Sunday Paper in most areas. There are also some Smart Source coupons that you can print online at:

We dont get the monthly fliers here in Eastern PAs but the monthly deals will still produce ECBs. I wonder if these would still produce ECBs even though not in fliers. Worth a try if you dont mind returning something.
