| Response to Rainchecks for "free" items and others
Since some people were having lots of trouble getting rainchecks on the loreal that was a free after ECB on the 2 day sale, I decided to write to CVS. I had gone to 3 stores - one had it in stock, and 2 did not. The first one gave me a raincheck for the free item. The other one said they can't. So I was annoyed and asked corporate what should have been done. This is their response. Hope it helps you in the future although it doesn't help for previous items: [Unable to display image] Dear Stefani, Thank you for taking the time to contact us. I apologize for the delay in responding to your email. The store should be issuing a Rain Check as a last resort if the sale item is Out of Stock. They should first offer a substitute (if possible). If this is not the case they need to offer you a Rain Check. If this includes Extra Bucks, they need to deduct that amount from the total cost of the item. For example if the item is $4.99 and the Extra Bucks are $4.99 the cost would be $0.00. I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me with any further questions or concerns. I have a feeling it would take some rough talking to get the one manager in my store to hand over a raincheck for $0.00. She looked at me like I was from outer space when i suggested such a thing and then stared at the circular till I said, "Fine! No big deal!" and left.

Yeah, I can't imagine that you can MAKE them do it, but here is proof that they are supposed to. I did not know about the substitute product either!! One of my CVS' are really nice and I don't usually have any problems with them - hence the reason why I got my 1 raincheck! The others are usually clueless and nice, or just mean!

I was able to get a rc for this.. however was given big balls trying to use it at another cvs that had them in stock!! I was told they are never sopposed to give rc on ecb items.. good to know whatthe actually policy is.. never knew about substituions either

i always get rainchecks at cvs when something is not in stock. i have never had any problems.

The only time I had a problem was on the 2 day sale with the loreal that was free after ECB! Besides that I haven't but I know others have. I was just curious what should REALLY be happening!! Nice to know what they are supposed to do though! This may just be another email that I print out and carry in my wallet with me just in case!

I pretty much got the same answer that if they cant substitute they should gaive a raincheck. She said they would be sending the cvs stores I had gone to a copy of this policy

How about sending this to ALL CVS stores. I missed out too with no raincheck,.no substitutions either.

Wow. I'm glad you posted this. The manager I spoke with about a raincheck for an ECB item said "We're not supposed to" like it would be some sort of unethical act.

Usually my store will substitute or offer a raincheck. However, on the two day sales, the person who knows this is never on duty. Even my favorite cashiers always tell me they cant do rainchecks on 2 day sales. Great to know that they actually can.

Today was the first time I've ever gotten a raincheck... I went in looking for the Revitalift... they didn't have any shelf sticker or product that seemed to match, so I politely asked the manager who was walking by... He said, "sorry, we're all out, but I'll go write you out a raincheck". I told him "no thanks" (I had no idea about the FREE rainchecks!!) and he insisted.... when he came back he handed me a raincheck that said Regular Price $16.99... Raincheck price: FREE (NO ECB)! Boy, am I excited to find out about this little gem!! That manager is stinkin awesome! I may have to get his work schedule so I only deal with him!

And a million for using the search to find this thread. Too many times folks forget all about the very cool AFC search feature and post something that could so easily be found in a previous thread. So thanks again for finding this thread. I'm sure that many people will find the letter in the OP informative, especially with the 2-day sale on another short supply L'Oreal product.

oooh I might try the substitution route to get a different L'oreal product to go along with the wrinkle stuff i got last time.

Maybe I'm clueless here, but why do you need a raincheck if you found the item at another store?

I just went to the store, they got a note said: Sorry, we are sold out...ask the front for raincheck. But the cashier refused to do it, she called shiftmanager, he refused too! I told him, why you did put a note for then. He bought all to the manager office, 5 min, came out with a raincheck. Hope you all 'll get one !

Me and 3 other girlfriends went to CVS together tonight and they happily handed over a raincheck for the L'Oreal and the Listerine Cool Blue stuff. She just cut out the L'Oreal revitalift stuff from the add and stapled it to the raincheck. We took the names of the two workers down and are calling CVS and letting them know how wonderful these two employees were to us tonight.

I am so glad you posted this info. I went into the first CVS today looking for the revitalift and was told "we only stocked 4 or 5 and they flew off of the shelves". I asked for a raincheck and asked how they handled that since it was free after ecb's and was told they don't do that...so I said,"am I just out of luck then?" and she replied yes...grrrr! I went down the road to the other CVS(which they called an dsaid they were all out)and they had 6 on the shelves, so I did get my revitalift afterall. I think I will email CVS as well so I can print it out and take it with me so I won't have to run from store to store or miss out on the free after ecb items.

My CVS said that for such a good sale, you just take your chances. They said they might get the items in today. After posting the above, I decided to email CVS as well. I'll share the response when it arrives. Thank you for this thread! MaryJeanH

It sounds Like CVS corporate needs to send out a letter to all of its stores explaining there policys. I would hope that the Mgrs know that they are loosing a bunch of money. When we are happy with the store we will shop there more often. I know when I go I will be asking for a raincheck and if I don't get one I will be contacting corporate. |

| You don't, but my point was that I went to 3 different stores and they all treated the situation different. I wrote to Corporate to figure out which way this should be handled! I did get the product on my last stop to a CVS, but I also made sure I got a raincheck at one of the other stores when they allowed it and they were out of stock. I haven't and won't use the raincheck since I was able to get the product.

One CVS store told me NO. No rain check! So this am I stopped at the one store that is always great. He offered either another item of my choice or a rain check. What a wonderful store that is. You know it has to be the one that is the longest drive from my home!! but I drive it. This store I have called corp on so much! To tell them how great they are to me all the time! How friendly and thoughtful they all ways are!
