| Question on a return and coupon use
Last Night I returned some diapers that DH bought, becuase he got the wrong size. He used a 1.50 Q and when I went to return the item they took off the 1.50 Q, so then I asked for my Q back and they said they couldn't. But they will get the 1.50 from the Manq. right. So what should I do? Its only a 1.50, but I can do a lot with that 1.50 at some stores.

You should have gotten back what the purchase price was. The store will get $1.50 back from that coupon no matter if the item was returned or not. When I took back a few boxes of cereal and even used coupons on them they gave me my money back with no problems at all. If you returned the item right away they could have pulled those coupons back out of the drawer for you. You should have been able to do an even exchange on the diapers if you were just changing the size.

I have never had them take off the coupon value when returning something. Was that the only item on the receipt that made it noticeable? I agree with gingersnap61 about just swapping out for the right size though.

Target also does this, if you notice your receipt it will list the Q under the item purchased, and then the "refund amount", which is minus the Q. (This happened to me last year with chocolate, I used a Q and purchased for my DD's teachers, but got home and realized it had nuts in it, which aren't allowed at our school. So I tried to return the 10 bags and they were only going to give me the purchase price minus the man. Q.....I told them I was only going to buy 10 more bags, couldn't I do a straight even exchange and they said NO! so I kept the 10 bags of chocolate) I agree, they will be getting reimbursed for the Q, and with everyone throwing around COUPON FRAUD all of the time this sounds like it to me. They are redeeming a coupon for a product that was purchased and then returned....so shouldn't show up as purchased in their inventory. |

I've never had them do that to me at Safeway but did at Lowes when I returned a patio set cover that was the wrong size and I used a $10.00 off $50.00 coupon. With all items I had they reduced the prices equally on all the items so that was fine with me since I was only returning 1 item. With receipts like Target and it's right under the item you can't expect to get that coupon difference back or your coupon back either but I would just do an even exchange if I needed that same item but in a larger size. I'm sure one day Safeway will change the system too and print receipts that show what item you used a coupon on. I think sometimes it would be a little easier for me to read those darn receipts too. When I come home from my shopping trip my husband just hears me tell him that I used coupons for this and that and when he looks at my receipt he just doesn't see that so I wished he did so I wouldn't have to keep explaining to him why I bought things we could probably live with out. |

It wasn't the only item and they didn't have the right size, so I couldn't exchange them. I called CS about this and they said that they have to adjust the coupon total to equall the sales total, so that is why she took the Q off and since it was a few days between the return they couldn't return my Q. Then she gave me a lecture on how it is important to get the right size the first time so I don't loose money. I just told her I wouldn't buy any more diapers there and I only shop there maybe once a month, I just wanted to know what the policy was.

That's not right of them. Maybe a Supervisor could have helped better? I'm just very aggressive that way .

I can't believe how many casheirs and or management don't understand how coupons work. You were correct, you should've gotten the entire amount back, or they should've manually taken off $1.50 for the exchanged package of diapers.
