Yesterday I bought Shout at RA thinking it'd be 2/$4 (saw several postings on it). Well I didn't realize until I got to my car that it rang full price and I didn't have an ad with me and the store didn't have an ad anywhere for me to prove the sale price. Turns out the 2/$4 sale was a regional thing so I returned the Shout later on in the day. I had 75 cent coupons that I used when I made the purchase and when I made the return the store manager adjusted the return price by the amount of the coupons. Is that their policy? Aren't they going to turn in my coupons anyways and therefore make money off me? I'm considering contacting corporate if any of you think it was wrong of this manager to do that. Thanks in advance!

Yes, I feel it was wrong of the manager to do that. Yes, you got your money back but you lost your coupons. That happened to me recently but I put up a fuss. I bought 4 toothpastes and I used $1 coupons for both but I realized when I got home I bought two of the wrong kind. I took them back. They wanted to only give me 2.99. That's what I paid, but since I wanted to exchange them I had to pay the full 3.99 each and they already have my coupons. I said well thats fine, give me the 2.99 and my coupons and I'll use them right now. I need to exchange the toothpastes for the right kind. Finally the manager said well I guess youre right...I can't give back your coupons but I will give you the 3.99 for each one and you can go buy the right ones. In other words I went back to being whole and RA didn't profit from my blunder. YMMV. I feel you are right and should either get the coupons back or the $1.50, but that is just MHO. They ARE going to redeem your coupons and get their $ back, so they are gaining from your error. Maybe if you did give corporate a call they could clear it up for you. It does seem confusing to return or exchange items when you use Qs. Both the cashier and the manager at my store seemed truly mystified until I explained it to them. HTH! |

The manager should have returned the total amount. You are right, they are going to submit your coupon and be re-imbursed. You should not have to pay a penalty for having used a coupon. Please call corporate so that they can make this right, and hopefully, retrain that manager!! Rite Aid should not be paid the same .75 twice. I realize that in the scheme of things, it's not alot of money, but start multiplying that by say three customers a day and they have quite a racket going. Look out for yourself and you could be saving the next guy as well.

Well, here's my devil's advocate: Did you ONLY buy the Shout and nothing else on that receipt? Because if that was your only item, your total would be, say, $4.75 [[I'm guessing on full price here]]. After a $.75 coupon, your total would be $4, and that's all you would have paid. Now, if you return it, you're expecting a full $4.75, but that's more than you handed over in cash, and it looks like you're trying to profit. I'm not saying that's what you're trying to do. I'm just saying that it's possible that it LOOKS like what you're trying to do. And that's what other people try to do, and it just turns into a mess for people who use coupons properly. If you bought more than one item, and your total was over the actual price [[before coupon]] of the Shout, then you should have no problem getting the $4.75 back. There's not really a way for Rite Aid to trace what coupon went with what item if there are multiple items on the receipt. |

Let us know how things work out OP.

I see it as simple as this: OP bought two items and used two coupons. The items were wrong so she returned them. Since RA cannot (will not) give back the coupons, OP should get what she paid plus the value of the coupons. RA will send in the coupons and make face value plus .16. Everyone is now whole. I hope they can figure out a way in the future to possibly scan the coupons back OUT in a case like this. Then a returner can get their money and their coupons. There has to be an easier way!! |

Jenner, I'm not saying the OP was trying to profit. But, let's look at this: What if someone went in to a store, bought $50 worth of items and ended up paying mere pennies, like many of us on this site are capable of doing. Then, the next day, they decided they didn't want any of it, so they went back to return it and asked to be reimbursed for all of the coupons. Since you're saying to be whole, and since stores like Rite Aid will traditionally not give back the coupons, the store should give the returner $50. It won't work that way. I don't wanna get into an argument over this, but I really feel like you attacked my post, so I felt like I had to defend my reasoning, that's all. |
