| Funny story by cashier this morning
This morning the cashier at the "nice" CVS was a young guy who was very chatty and friendly even when I asked about doing 2 transactions. I think he took that as the cue that I would have a number of coupons, so he started telling me about his regulars that come in every Sunday morning and that he always does his deals right before his shift starts b/c if he waits until his lunch break, everything will be gone. He even let me know of a price correction on something I was buying. Then he says that they had a district manager come in recently to lecture on the evils of coupons and he snickers at that. I wasn't sure where he was headed w/this so I said, well, it is a shame that some people will copy them or try to use them on things they're not valid on b/c it ruins it for the rest of us. And he says No, it's not that. He tells me that recently one of their managers and a few employees were fired for coupon fraud. They had figured out that the coupons coming out of the scanner are sometimes coded to scan ok for anything. So if it says "Pain Reliever", they were using them on things like candy, food, etc. And they did it for hundreds of dollars worth. He said corporate conducted a sting essentially, by tracking their cards and catching them in the act. So at this point, I'm happy there's no one else in line b/c I'm dying to hear more and he's clearly excited to tell me more. He said that the employees were fired, but the police were there and the manager was asked to sign something saying she would pay back the money and they wouldn't press charges. She goes nuts and tries to EAT the paper. I guess she thought she was destroying the evidence? Then as she's trying to stuff it into her mouth, they're trying to stop her and she BITES someone! I don't know if she bit a police officer or CVS manager, but either way, I can't imagine that helped her situation! I was in disbelief that someone would go so far to cheat their employer in a way that is so obviously traceable and then get into a physical altercation like that! I was laughing, the cashier was laughing, and neither of us noticed that he never entered the price for the Stayfree BOGO. I saw it when I got home, but you know what? It was worth $4.50 to hear that story and just to watch him tell it to a "fellow couponer".

I read the top story here and laughed out loud. Then I got to thinking, our scanner has been down for about , well a little over a week. they say its out of paper, the truck came and went and still, no paper. So now I am wondering if this is some sort of stop the printing, until they can correct the program to print out for specific items??? Any body else out there without a scanner right now. I live near Dallas and we only have one cvs.

OH my goodness! Very good story. My brother used to be a Loss Prevention Manager and he said that most of the fraud in companies are more from the employees than the consumer!

OMG that is insane! I just heard from one of my stores that an employee at another store was fired for 'extrabucks fraud'. This after I told them about a manager at that other store trying to keep my extrabucks. I still don't know exactly what 'extrabucks fraud' means (they didn't seem to know exactly what the person was doing either), but I would sure like to know...

People are crazy these days. One worker from Office Depot would use her Rewards # on customers purchases, even if they gave her a card to scan or told her their #... she would scan or type theirs in and then typed in hers. She was doing it for a longggg time and claimed that her Mom in another state was using her card to purchase things. She didnt realize that her number was coming up on a gazillion purchases for her own store. So, if you go to Office Depot be sure your Rewards # is what is on the receipt. If you see them typing in another # after yours, watch out. The registers take the last number scanned or typed in and will void out the first. She racked up hundreds in rewards but didnt get to use them. Thankfully they caught her before she received her gift card. |
