| Britax car seats on clearance
This is my first post on here, but I felt I needed to share this. Usually, I just read your all's great trips and get ideas and "need" to go to Target. My husband thinks I'm obsessed. And I apologize if it's been posted already. I notieced that their Britax car seats were clearenced, from $269.99 I think, to $189.99. No, that's not too bad for a Britax. Hope someone can use that info. This is in Kansas. When I was at Target on sunday, they weren't clearanced, so they must have done it sometime between then and today. |

ya'll are gonna poop a cow when you hear me say this. about a month ago DH and i were at target looking for a 2nd car seat for his car. we see a few orange sticker, investigae a little further Britax Marathan 90% off, it rang up 29.xx ! So i took my happy behind up to the register and pay 29.xx for a brand new britax car seat, obvioulsy it was a major mistake. there were some other car seats there that were on sale that they had marked down to 29. but they also marked this one box and it rang up the right 29 price, no hassle, no haggle, no arguing out the door |

I bought a Britax on clearance online, and it was lower price because the manufacture date was last year. It is not good nearly as long as a current one.

Alright, I'm probably gonna sound really stupid here, but car seats expire? I know a manufactured date is listed on them, but I always thought that was for if there was a recall or if they needed to know when & where it was made should we have a problem with the seat. If they do, I'd really be interested in exactly what goes bad in them. Alright, I feel like a fool now!

Oh yeah, they expire! Britax seats generally last for 6 years. It is not a widely known fact, but I am not sure why. They expire because the plastic starts to degrade. You won't be able to see anything wrong, but they are still dangerous.

When I was researching carseats before I bought my DD's Britax Decathlon (for nearly $300 Augh!) I was also stumped by all the expiration date talk. When I googled it I found out that due to extreme heat and cold from sitting in the vehicle (or being stored) the plastic begins to deteriorate. In an accident, the straps can literally rip from the seat flinging your child out. I was very disappointed that I had stored my older daughter's Britax Marathon for 2 years for nothing. But I was also thankful to find out about the potential danger before I used it for my younger child. Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention that I purchased the first car seat on sale for $129.00 and it was still good for five years. She only used it for 3 1/2 years before graduating to her booster. ( She was at the top of the growth charts.) I also loaned it to a friend for several months, so I got my money's worth out of it for sure. I think if you have a bigger child you are safe going with a seat even if it is already a year old. They are probably going to outgrow it before the expiration date anyway. My second child is rather small for her age so I made sure to go with a current model.

Thanks for the expiration info, but now I need to go buy a new car seat when she grows out of this one! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! I'd rather find out from you guys about this, than have an accident and find out that way.

Sure, a $29.xx seat might expire in 2 years instead of 6, but for that price, it's still a deal! Figure paying the full $269 price and for 6 years, that is about $45/year. Pay the $189 price and it's still $31.50/year, so unless that $29.xx one expires in less than a year, it's a fabulous deal! We have a handful of Britax and we love them all!

Just snatched up the last Marathon for $134.99 (reg price $269.99). I haven't checked the exp yet but the box says made Dec 2007 so in theory it should be good until 2013. Great deal!
