Are you speaking of

A) softsoap for $4.99 paying $4.99 in ECB or

B) $6 brush bought with ECB's from some other deal

B would be a yes ~ if they have to they put the return amount on a cash card which is basically a GC.

Yes. I had to return a bottle of contact solution because I bought the wrong brand and DH wouldn't use it.
The manager had to ring it as a return without a receipt or it would only give me a rebate of $1.30 which was my oop on that transaction. By ringing it without the receipt, I got the full $10+ back.

He/she should have given you the $1.30 cash/credit/whatever you used out of pocket and put the rest on a money card. Is that what (s)he did or did (s)he give you the full $10 back in cash?

Just curious.

She gave me the full amount in cash. I even suggested to her that I could understand if the refund needed to be put on a gc since I hadn't paid the full amount oop.
I guess it was just easier to do the cash refund...

I was told yesterday by a cvsemp. that if you return something tat had eb attached that eb will no longer work (it will beep and say invalid) of course if you use it before you return that is another story. I think if you bought an item on accident or realized that it wasn't as good as a deal as you thought then returning it is totally fine (I personally won't use the eb that were associated with that purchase, but thats just me). But if you go in buying stuff just for the eb and then return then I think that is wrong. I say someone returned 3 packs of huggies yesterday and it made me mad. She didn't exchange and I know they had all the sizes (I looked a all of them cause I was doing the huggies deal). And I met someone in CVS the other day playing the cvs eb game and we were giving each other pointers and he told me he had bought 5 monitors got 20eb for each and then returned them all. I think that is totally wronog. Still just my opnion I am not trying to start an argument...

I agree with you on the returning when you get back ECB's on items. I however have come across a few issues myself. I had done the huggies deal that last time around and I thought I was good on the sizes well I wasn't my son grew too fast. I went to exchange them and well they wouldn't do it that way. I tried at three stores and I even asked them to do what was easier for them and all did the money card. One place finally said that they would exchange them and they didn't have the size I needed. So I don't know. I felt bad about it but I needed to get the right size and I had already sent my rebate off that the huggies were on so I didn't have a receipt. I can't see someone getting the monitors and then returning them, I feel that is why CVS is doing some of the things that they have been doing with lowering limits, not many printables, limiting use of coupons and such.

But to OP. I would return the item if it isn't what you were wanting and you didn't get the deal you were looking to get. But if you received ECB then I don't know. I have personal issues with that one. LOL Hard to say I guess. Do what you feel is fair in the situation. I know it can be done though.

There's a way in the system that takes care of the whole "you earned Extra Bucks with that item" thing. Your EB's should still be valid.

CVSEmp please explain was the cashier incorrect in saying that the eb would not be valid. I am just curious on this one because I know there are peoplpe out there that are doing fradulent things and this is going to end up hurting people that are trying to do it right. But I am just curious how cvs has the system set up. Thanks for your insight.

If you return something that earned EB's, the amount of EB's you got is subtracted from your quarterly earnings.

For example:
You buy the Softsoap for $4.99 and get $4.99 EB's
You return the Softsoap.
Your quarterly EB's should now start at -$4.99 instead of $0 and build up from there.

Didn't care to share since there's obviously easy ways to avoid that, but whatever.
