I went last night to start my Stayfree deal. I was shocked to find much of the Stayfree was on clearance. The employees agreed with me that the products matched the description for the gas card and it doesn't say it excludes clearance. They said the manager would override it if it didn't count.

As expected, they didn't ring BOGO and didn't track on my receipt. We called the manager out (someone who has been very helpful to me before) and she said the register will choose the better deal and there was nothing she could do. I didn't feel it was worth fighting with her. They rang at $1.74 and I had the $1/1 coupons so it was a little more than after the cash card but I want to maintain a good relationship with the employees so I said thank you and moved on.

This is the the of situation that I might take to CS if at the end of the week I am short whatever the Stayfree added up to in order to get my next gas card...particularly if I couldnt get to the next GC because of store stock. They might agree with you and at least send a $10 ECB. In store I would have handled it the same way though, no need to cause trouble. CS would just be the backup plan in case I couldnt get to the next GC level another way.

this happened to me on the last day of the sale for the blue diamond almonds they were on clearance and I brought it up to the mgr and he said that if it didn't count toward the gc(at the time) he would override it...I told the cashier about what the mgr said and he said ok...everything worked so we didn't have to call the mgr...but it would be good if it worked on the stayfree this time. thanks for the heads up...cuz I just came from my store and they are loaded with stayfree still.
