Rules my interesting response from cust service

Just thought I'd share in case the note was helpful to anyone else:

I asked:
Is there a limit to the number of extrabucks I can use per item? I
tried to purchase one item today for ~$12 and I was told I could only
use 1 ECB per item. Luckily I had an extrbuck for close to the amount,
but if I only had 2 or 3 smaller ones, would I not have been able to use
them?

CVS response:
Thank you for your inquiry into the CVS ExtraCare program.

If the coupons you are describing are truly ExtraBucks, than you could
have used multiple EB as long as they do not exceed the amount of the
purchase.

Please note that not all CVS ExtraCare coupons are ExtraBucks, for
example you may from time to time, receive coupons for "$1 off any CVS
Pain Reliever," or "$2 off [name brand] Shampoo" or something similar.
These are 'Offers at the Register' and are free to you, not related to
spending amounts and are not ExtraBucks.

Also you might receive coupons which offer "$3 off a purchase of $30 or
more." These also are not ExtraBucks. Any of these coupon types may be
used together, as long as the terms of each coupon is met; and when used
together these coupons may limit other coupons that can be used.

If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact us
either by e-mail or by calling (800) 746-7287. Thank you for taking the
time to contact us. I hope you have a nice day.

Sincerely,
Timothy

It varies how they answer most questions! It just seems like they need something in stone, and not just fly by the seat answers for everything!

Ok here was my follow up question and answer...I know when you contact cust service, YMMV but he did adress a few issues pretty clearly:

My Question:
Thank you for your response. I want to make sure I am following the rules,
so can you clarify a few points for me?

With the purchase I described below I was using a $2 off $10 coupon, which
brought my total down to ~$11. When I then started to hand over my
extrabucks I was told I could not use it because I only had one item and I
had already used a cvs coupon and extrabucks count as a coupon. The cashier
said she could re-ring me without the coupon and then I could use one, and
only one extrabuck. Instead I added a pack of gum to my purchase to bring
my item count to 2. She then allowed me to use the $2/$10 coupon and one
extrabuck (but would not let me use any more extrabucks because it was then
2 items = 2 coupons then). The supervisor also agreed with the cashier that
this was the policy.

1)If I understand correctly, you are saying that I should have been allowed
to use the $2/$10 coupon plus as many extrabucks as I had so long as my
total did not go below 0?

2)Is there any circumstance where the # of coupons/extrabucks etc is related
to number of items versus purchase price?

3)Regarding the $xx off $xx coupons is it ok to use more than one in a
transaction? For example if my total is $75 and I have an e-mail for
$5/$30, a cash register tape $4/20, and a $2/$10 coupn from a pamphlet, can
I use all 3?

Thanks again for your help. I normally have very pleasant, hassle free
shopping trips at my CVS, I just want to make sure that I follow the program
rules.

CVS Response:
Thank you for your reply, I will be happy to clarify.

To answer your first point: 'Earned' ExtraBucks may be used in any quantity on one transaction regardless of the item count. 'Earned' EB's are those you get as a result of your purchases, i.e. Quarterly EB's and EB's from circulars (buy 1 item get $1EB).

Therefore if you have a $12 purchase and a $5 EB Quarterly EB and three ciruclar EB' at $2 Each, the can all be used on one transaction even if there is only one item. The Store staff is mistaken in their interpretation of the policy in that regard, please except my apologies.

To the second point, No. All earned EB's may be used in one transaction regardless of the item count; still if your EB exceed the total purchase price you simply will pay nothing and receive no cash back.

To the Third point: In General the $xx off $xx purchase coupons are limited to One per transaction. It is noted on the bottom of the emailed coupons. Again when used the terms of the coupon must be met by the total 'out of pocket' so a $3 off $15 can only be used if the total amount being spent is $15 or more.

Furthermore let me state that the Management staff at a CVS location does have the ultimate authority in the acceptance of any coupons; while the policy has been adopted Managers still have final authority in any case where interpretation of the policy in not Black and White.

If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact us either by e-mail or by calling (800) 746-7287. Thank you for taking the time to contact us. I hope you have a nice day.

Sincerely,
Timothy

Mine tried to do that to me.. my final total was $3.00 exactly (no clue how I pulled that off)... well I handed over a $3.00 ECB... When you do this is drops the taxable amount (CVS ECB and CVS coupons are subtracted before tax).. Thus I only owed like $2.69. Soooo then the cashier wanted to keep the $3.00 ECB and I would have "lost" .31.

I had him rering and just gave a $2.00 ECB instead.

In some states you can also avoid this issue by giving a Manu coupon last (just save one) and the coupon value will count towards tax! YMMV. This has worked for me many times.

Or if you can add up all your coupons ahead of time, give all manuf coups last, after ECBs and CVS coupons. Give only enough ECBs to cover most of what your manuf coupons won't cover. I.e., if your total after CVS $ off $$ is $10 and you have $5 worth of manuf coupons, only give $4 ECBs, then the $5 manuf.
Of course these #s i just made up, I don't have a real example in front of me, but it does bring down the taxable amt if you give ECBs before manuf coups.

yup it's not...according to this guy you should only even use the e-mails one time too

I asked:

Thanks! One last question..sorry to bombard you. When I receive an
e-mailed XX/XXX coupon...can I use it more than one time on different trips?

CVS said:

Unfortunately the CVS ExtraCare coupons of all types are used/redeemed just once.

I will be honest with everyone.
I always use the 3/15 and the 2/10 and have never had a problem. No cashier has had a problem entering them.
Now I think where some people may have a problem is if they visit the same CVS many times a week (which is okay ), the cashiers may remember you and remember the purchases and q's used and decide to make whatever the "rule" of the day is. (You ladies know what I mean!)
I am lucky because I have about 10 CVSs in a 10 mile radius and they have all been very nice to me and DF.
