Do you think your CVS is doing better because you shop there? Or..... do you think CVS is general does better from people shoping with store/manufacture coupons? my family say the store's profit will increase if/when I stop shopping there, but I think otherwise, I think they are doing better with me around.... last week I think I spent at least $80 just from manufacture's coupons.

Let's put it this way - if I didn't have coupons and CVS didn't issue the ECB's then they wouldn't be getting my business AT ALL since they are incredibly overpriced - They are DEFINITELY making money off of me no matter how you look at it!!! They are probably making money off of most people who coupon like us as most of us wouldn't go there at all if they didn't do their ECB program!!!

I think they make their money off prescription and OTC medicines. There are probably some people that pay full price for convenience when they're in there getting their Rx filled/refilled. I'm sure most people don't pay full price for all their toiletries there. Then again, when I met my dh, I discovered that his family always paid full price for stuff. They just bought as they needed instead of comparison shopping (even on designer clothing!), so there are people that live that way. (He lets me do the shopping.)

'My' CVS is doing better b/c of me and my friend. They have told us on several occasions that their sales numbers are higher b/c of us, and tell us to let them know when we want them to order in extra quantities of something so that they can be the store that sells it to us rather than us getting it somewhere else. Your family might not realize that stores get reimbursed for manufacturer's coupons. Yes, CVS is actually giving us 'free money' when we use CVS coupons since they can't exactly reimburse themselves, but CVS-coupons are a drop in the bucket compared to all the manufacturer's coupons and ECBs that we use (yes they get money back on ECBs from the manufacturer's of the product). And PP is right, they do make a huge percentage of their money on the pharmacy. And hey, all of us 'hardcore' couponers would much rather fill our prescriptions at CVS so we can get the gift card, right? LOL

I don't think CVS would offer the ExtraCare Program if they were losing money. They are in business to make money! I think my store does make money off of me. I get prescriptions filled there at $30 a pop about 4 times a month. Also, like others said they are getting remibusred for the coupons I am using.

I don't know. Both the CVS I frequent are always busy so I don't think my shopping makes a big difference. Either way, the managers there never give me problems and are always happy to see me so I give them my business, with or without coupon, I still spend some money there OOP and would never dream of shopping there if not for the ECBs. Also I always used to have my prescription filled at grocery store pharmacy because it was convenient but now I bring it to CVS. so i guess in a way, yes but I don't think they'll have to close shop if I don't shop there anymore .

I don't think they are making any more or less money off me than any other average person that shops there. Whether I pay them or the manufacturer pays them they get their money and I don't have a huge stockpile that would break the bank. Just call me average Joe ![]()

Last Saturday while I was doing my photobook a guy walked in looking for a digital camera - at CVS It was $100 and when the lady asked for his card he said that he didn't have it. I swear I almost ran over there with mine but then he gave her his phone #. I think that the people who actually coupon there and do the ecb's are the minority so they are making cash!

I am amazed at the number of people... who don't have a CVS card while shopping in there. I, too, see it all the time. I was one of those people not too long ago(May, to be exact) until I ran across this website totally by accident. I am always looking at what other people are purchasing, and offering my Qs if its something that I won't buy(like diapers). They are very appreciative. \ I've had people in line behind me say, " How do you do that?" (when I have a low OOP), and first thing I ask them is if they have a CVS card. Usually the answer is no. Then I explain how to do the deals, hence my coupon book (that they are looking at). I think my CVS does better (not that they've told me!) because they do get a b'jillion Qs from me, and they get reimbursed by the Manf + $.08 more. Some cashiers have said "we take all Qs and treat them as cash because we get so much more back from the Manf." I agree with that theory. Am I addicted? You bet! I visit my CVs almost everyday and scan my card for x/xx. :goodpost2:

I was told that the ECB program is CVS' and they do NOT get reimbursed for those. I was told it was a way to get certain items moving quicker through the stores... I almost NEVER shopped at CVS before the last few months when I discovered ECBs, mixed with manuf qs! I always thought it was too pricey and too complicated - I LOVE it now! Even so, I spent almost $200 in the first quarter of the year there - and another $150 in the 2nd. I won't be spending that much THIS quarter as now I'm stockpiled for a LOOOOONG time. But, they are moving lots of product because of me - and I am giving them money sometimes - and also those manufacturer qs! I do think they are doing better because of me - certainly in terms of how many items they are moving out of the store!

While I do understand that they get reimbursed for the manu q's, if you read the thread on how coupons work under Couponing 101, you can see that the 8 cents may not really cover their handling costs and the time delay from when you hand it to the cashier until they actually see their money from it. Here's the thread... be sure to thank the OP of it! How coupons work Since we seem to run into so many coupon-hating managers, I wonder if their store is rated on actual dollars spent and not just on product moved out of the store. I know we're a small portion of their customers, but I can see why they're not crazy about people walking out w/bugs of stuff for $0.35. Although, that's not going to stop me from doing it!
