My CVS had the Bic Triumph packs for 3.99/pc at my store today.

If I use (2) $2/1 would that not be overage and would this work? Should the cashier not except the 2nd q, they would be about .60/pack for me as i have a $4/20 coupon

I would like to get them for free

What do you all think?

When the coupon exceeded the value for the J&J first aid kits, the computer prompted for them to bring down the value of the coupon. I would think it would sail through, though, as it is technically a $3.99 value and the B1G1 comes off at the end.

But, I would be using $4 worth of coupons on 3.99.

That's fine, they will manually bring the value of the 2nd q down to $1.99.

On a B1G1 free sale like this, there actually won't be any adjustment to the coupon value. With CVS B1G1 free sales, you can actually receive overage from coupons.

The register system is such that it will accept a coupon for each item in the B1G1 free sale. Although we see the items as being, "$x.xx" and "$0.00" on our receipts, the register actually sees the items as being "$x.xx" and "$x.xx" until the transaction is finalized and it deducts the "$x.xx" for you using your ExtraCare Card for the purchase.

When you use your $2.00 off coupons for the pens, all the register sees is $2.00 off a $3.99 purchase for each pen set -- whether it is the "regular" price one or the "free" one. You'll pay $3.99 for the two pen sets and receive $4.00 off in coupons. The register is happy with that.


Let's assume for sake of argument that there are $3.50 Neutrogena cosmetic items. Neutrogena is on sale this coming week (3-day special) for B1G1 free and there are $3.00 off coupons. If you were to buy two $3.50 items, the register would see that you had purchased two $3.50 items and would let you use two coupons on that purchase. You could use your two $3.00 coupons for $6.00 off even though you are really only spending $3.50. You'll receive overage of $2.50. Yes, the register allow this to happen.

Thanks Mad for explaining everything to me as you were right! As the cashier rang everything up, all the pens showed up as 3.99 even the "free" ones until the very end... then the exciting part began of watching my total go from $38 to $3.40. I bought a couple of lip glosses as I used a $4/20 and bought 8 triumph bic pens (got totally for free). Great learning experience! Thanks.
