How do I use $/$$ and % off CVS Coupons?

$/$$ Coupons

You can obtain $/$$ CVS Coupons via email from CVS, from your ExtraCare account at CVS pharmacy - Online Pharmacy - Shop for Wellness and Beauty Products, from the Red Machine and at the bottom of your receipt. These coupons are one time use only and are linked to your CVS card. Sometimes you will find pamphlets at CVS with $/$$ coupons or they may be issued in the newspaper. These aren't linked to a particular CVS account and can be used by anyone.

When you receive a $/$$ CVS coupon (ex. $4 off a $20 purchase) your pre-tax sub-total should be $20 before any coupons are applied.

These coupons can be stacked so long as you met the minimum $$ requirement for each coupon. For example: If you have a $4/$20 and a $5/15 you can use both in one transaction so long as your total is at least $35. This rule applies to all $/$$ regardless if they are off your total purchase or a particular item/category of item. So if you receive a coupon for $3 off a $15 baby purchase and a $4/$20 you must still meet the requirements of both coupon - so you must spend at least $35, $15 of which must be baby-related.

$/$$ coupons can be used in conjuction with other couponss like manufacturer coupons, store coupons and ECBs.

% Off Coupons

You can obtain % off CVS Coupons via email from CVS, from your ExtraCare account at CVS pharmacy - Online Pharmacy - Shop for Wellness and Beauty Products, from the Red Machine and at the bottom of your receipt.

There is no minimum purchase requirement to use a % off coupon but the maximum discount it will apply is $99. An example of a % off coupon would be "20% off your CVS purchase".

These coupons typically do not apply to:
Sale Items
Clearance Items
Items part of a BOGO or BOGO 50% Sale (even if you only purchase one item)

These coupons typically do apply to:
Full Price Items
Full Price Items producing ECB

The % off discount is applied before manufacturers coupons are applied but after CVS coupons are applied. Regularly printed ECB do not reduce the % off discount. Beauty ECB, Green Bag Tag ECB, manually printed ECB, $/$$ Coupons WILL reduce the % off discount.

% off coupons can be stacked if you happen to receive more than one.

I know some people are using them but do we have any confirmation or coupon policy from CVS?

I always thought you could stack too.....but was informed by the manager of the store just yesterday that only ONE $/$$ can be used for a transaction.

If you have more than one...you must split your transactions into seperate ones for each $/$$.

AND...at the bottom of the one I just got today....not in the actuall coupon part...but in all the "fine print" under the coupon...it does state "LIMIT OF ONE PURCHASE-BASED COUPON, I.E., $4 OFF $20 PURCHASE, PER TRANSACTION."

It isn't stated in the policy but the register allows it and deducts %'s accordingly.

Print the new coupon policy and take it with you. It specifically states that these coupons can now be stacked. If they still give you trouble contact CVS Customer Service and they'll make a call to the manager to let them know that these coupons can be stacked.

Where can I find this policy...I will def carry it with me as the manager was VERY adamant about this...and he's usually such a nice easy goin' guy!!!

I received a 30% off by email and also a 20% off from the red machine. So if I'm reading correctly, I can stack these together for 50% off?

Stacking those will result in a 44% discount.

Dana--perhaps you should add the formula to get the correct % for the stacked %s to the OP. Might cut down on some repeat questions.

Edited to add: pdausbou that wasnt aimed at you, just hoping to cut down on repeat questions in the future. Although sometimes we need that to get something through our heads. Lord knows I needed the BOGO w/ B2GO explained about six times before I got it!

And this is why I agree with Barbie ("Math is hard, I would rather bake some cookies for the guys!").


I screwed up my numbers, you are right it is a 44% discount...hey, I knew it wasnt 50% and wanted to warn off the poster so she would know it wasnt 50%. It's the thought that counts, right?!? I did correct the earlier post in case the poster reads down that far but not further.

Your formula is probably more direct but what I do is:

1- (1-0.X) (1-0.Y)= % discount

Example:
1- (1-0.30) (1-0.20)=

1-(0.7)(0.8)=

1-(0.56)= 0.44 = 44% discount

Or just some notation that the applicable discount is not X + Y will probably be just as helpful and get most people to the same place.

Great post, op. I just want to add sometimes the percentage off coupon works on clearance. I was in the negative once by about 25 cents, so I added some clearance candy 29 cents, but the register still told me negative, turned out my 30% off knocked out another 9 cents off the candy, so I had to throw in the 33 cents caramel. (no more clearance filler, haha)

Also, if you use $/$$ and % off together, and have sale and regular price items in your basket, you can not calculate the amount taken off by the percentage off coupon by deducting the $/$$ and multiply by the percentage off on the regular price total.

It has been my experience that the register will not acknowledge the $4/$20 off the nonsale items. So it still takes the deduction before the % off.

Let's say you have $20 sale items, and $20 regular retail, and have a $4/$20 and a 30% off, this is how to get to the amount taken off for the 30% off.

20+20=40

(40-4) /40 x 20 x 30% = 5.4


While if you separate them into two transactions, use 4/20 for the $20 sale, and 30% off for the $20 RR, you'll get $6 off for the 30 % off.

ÇVS corporate tells me the 20% and 30% Qs cannot be combined, that deducting either one of them creates a "sale price", therefore the 2nd one cannot be used. Help me out here.

Of the 5 ÇVS stores in my area, 2 of them took both Qs, 3 of them absolutely would not. Therefore I called for corporate support, got none. Did talk with a supervisor , , , , a 45 minute conversation.

How did they recon the specific point in the coupon policy that says you can used multiple $/$$ in a transaction and even lists an example of two of the same value $/$$ (as I have heard some say you cant use same values $/$$ in a transaction so I love that the policy says that you may.
